@_theSCHOLAR_ Those are great companies. I assume that Amazon will wait until after the holidays to start picking just because its the holiday season and GEM notifications go out mid March so they have time. Who I think are picking now are national labs, just because it probably takes time internally to get everything squared away since they are government funded lol.

@drdrake125 From what I understand is that if you are already accepted into a MS or PhD program that is GEM approved you can get the requirement that you need to apply to 3 school waived as long as the school agrees to fund you. You still need to do an internship with a GEM approved employer but If you do not get one you can do one outside of GEM as long as it gets approved. What I don't know is if you get picked by a GEM employer and a company outside of GEM, if you can decline the GEM and pick the non GEM employer. I would assume not because GEM probably wants you to pick a company that is GEM approved.

Thank you! Have you had an interview or has anyone reached out? I bet most industry companies may wait until after the holidays. What companies did you list?

I think you only get one offer? If you decline you do not go back into the employer pool.

@rootatroot I believe you can do that! Is you college part of the GEM certified colleges? I am trying to get mine to become one but I do not know how long it takes I started a graduate program to become one. I am part of a graduate program already but it is not GEM approved I do not mind switching programs it just annoying I did not know about GEM until this year.

@_theSCHOLAR_ I guess it is a national lab not industry lol. @sirTintin That is true but even getting the GEM Associate is still great. You could always find internships on your own

Is everyone a PhD or a M.S? Just talked to GEM and they stated that usually if your a PhD candidate and made it this far you are about 95% to get sponsored by a company or a national lab.

@Manufan5 I think it really depends on the company and how active they are in the process. I am sure some companies are on top of it may be interviewing already. Some may wait until after the holidays due to how many employees leave for the holidays. I am sure you may start receiving emails and phone calls as early as next week up until maybe May. Just like a normal job interview the company will interview multiple candidates, so once you have an interview you may not hear back for a week or so.

@Manufan5 Ah okay, I think that is my case as well. My optimistic side like @cf6049 hopes since we received the email we will receive some sort of funding even if it inst the full fellowship but a subcategory. My pessimistic side thinks all that email was that we successfully followed directions and filled out the application correctly.

Hello I applied early as well. The application is not due until next month so I dont think they will make decisions at least until then but applying early puts you over the edge. I have been contacted by university about waivers for applications.

Do you have an advisor you want to work with or a school you want to attend? I would shoot an email to them and ask them personally. If you have an advisor you wan to work with and they respond and you start to build a relationship they have a lot of pull who gets into the program.
