  1. Oh whoops, already commented this on another thread, but - corona permitting, I'll be heading to Madison, Wisconsin. And just a quick note for applicants who have either been shut out or are still unsure they'll have a positive decision to make this cycle: everybody's position is different, of course, but this was the third year of applying to schools for me. Thirty-eight other applications before this one finally clicked. So don't get disheartened too soon! ❤️
  2. Not sure if we have a decisions thread this year (?) but I've accepted my offer at UW-Madison.
  3. Also, has anyone tried soliciting UPenn? Their rejections aren't officially in yet, right?
  4. Probably, but it seemed a little slower even before the outbreak hit the US, so... not sure! Probably didn't make things any smoother though.
  5. CUNY email, yesterday: 'Let us know, however, if you would like to be considered for our M.A. program. No additional application letter or materials would be required from you. Just write to us by April 16th if you are interested. If not, then there is no reason for you to communicate further.' God damn, Professor Mills!
  6. Nope, you should definitely go ahead. Especially as we get closer to April 15th, it's important for you to have all the information you need to make a snap decision if required.
  7. I don't have much to say about the NSSR programme (my intuition, for what it's worth, is that philosophy grad students should generally not go to places where they have to pay any substantial money, but I guess people might have very specific circumstances they're working out of!) but I just wanted to chime in to say Alice Crary is a really interesting thinking. And that's coming from someone who mostly works in 'analytic' now.
  8. Depends on the programmes, but you should expect to be on-call and ready to make decisions around April 13-15th.
  9. In happier news: got an email from NYU to check my portal. Uh oh, I think. Tried to access my portal and realized I had forgotten exactly what the password is. But yet, I persisted. Tried out several variations of the password, unsuccessfully. Stopped persisting. Gave up, and pressed the Forgot your password? link to reset. Got a reset link, only to be informed that access to my account has been temporarily restricted, presumably because of my valiant efforts to remember the password earlier. ? Anyway, I know these signs, so in summary, this is how you delay the news that you've been rejected.
  10. The DoA mentioned it to someone I know. But all the decisions do seem to be out now, so ?‍♀️ I wonder if there was some miscommunication involved.
  11. Hm, fair enough. I had been told that as of Friday, MIT had not started looking at the files; but I don't know how long it would take them to start making decisions after starting.
  12. Congratulations! Looks like you have a couple of very nice options already.
  13. Harvard and Princeton ones are genuine, no idea about Stanford, and I'll be extremely surprised if the MIT one is real.
  14. Unfortunately, it does sound like you're high on the list. ? Not sure whether this is the case at Pitt, but usually not all waitlistees are invited to campus visits unless they're reasonably high on the list. Hope it turns out well! Depends on the department; some have ranked lists, some sort by AOI, some have totally unranked lists and go back to look at all applicants whenever someone declines an offer. They'll usually tell you something about how it works if you ask (though sometimes not - then they'll just say something along the lines of 'it's really hard to tell at this point, I'll let you know when we have more info'), so it can be worth doing so if you really want to know.
  15. Two quick ones can make it seem worse than it is - don't be disheartened! Even if it doesn't work out this year.
  16. It does seem like this year's decisions are particularly straggled out, not sure why. We'll be waiting a while - word I've gotten is that they're yet to begin looking at the application files.
  17. Rejection at UMichigan; same letter as previous years, but this time signed by Peter Railton.
  18. In at Wisconsin-Madison. First decision I've received this cycle so still plenty to wait on before a final choice, but I can say that it's a programme I like a lot.
  19. Congrats! Think you'll be attending?
  20. That's a great acceptance! Well done!
  21. Congrats all on some very nice acceptances! I feel like avoiding the stress of reapplying is definitely a powerful motivator. Sounds like a tricky decision to have made - congrats on making it, and also on exceeding your own expectations!
  22. Congratulations! Ah, a little earlier than last year, at least, so you're not left wondering until the end. Congrats on finalizing at a great department!
