  1. Hey everyone! I'm still officially waitlisted at CUNY (Comparative Literature), but it really feels like a joke now. I wrote to the program director last week to express my continued interest and he hasn't responded. I am having a really hard time understanding why they won't just officially reject me. It's not as if I would be paying for the program and they could possibly profit from keeping me hanging until the last possible second. Any thoughts?
  2. thank you Tacitus! the fact that they say that in your letters makes me feel a little more at ease ? i have no acceptance letters because I applied to only one program and they've waitlisted me ?
  3. technical question: is the april 15th deadline an official thing or just a custom? i'm an international student and i've seen people mentioning it as the absolute final moment to accept or decline offers but as we inch (or more like quarter-inch) closer to the date i'm starting to get paranoid that maybe *my school* decided to give everyone until september to make up their minds???? the question, sans anxious rambling: does absolutely EVERYONE need to accept/decline offers by april 15?
  4. hey all! i'm here writing from absolute limbo: i wrote to my program a few weeks back and they told me they had sent out a few acceptances, but that there was another round "forthcoming". it's been radio silence from that moment on. anyone else on the same boat?? PS congratulations shake!!!!!!
  5. this dynamic feels unnecessary mean, bordering on disrespectful ? I was going back to see how my program has handled rejections in the previous years and saw a post by someone who hadn't received any news at all, wrote to the program on march 12th (!!!!!!!!!!!) and they told him he had been rejected
  6. Hey everyone! It makes me so happy to see people getting good news!!! I am still waiting to hear back from CUNY comp lit, there were three informal acceptances on the board a week ago, so I don't think an admit is in the cards for me. However, I'm still holding out hope that I've been waitlisted. Does anyone know if they actually let you know when you've been waitlisted? I am terrified of writing and getting a big, fat rejection back ?
  7. congratulations!!! just curious: what was the second acceptance? also, your research sounds really interesting!
  8. cry-laughing at this utter gem/my absolute worst fear "Admissions decisions are difficult and complicated for faculty who evaluate applications, but no more difficult and complicated than the vast web of lies your professors have clearly been spinning about your talent and scholarly potential to keep from hurting your feelings."
  9. thank you thank you :') i will be manifesting from here to april 15th
  10. congratulations!!! i am still waiting on what will probably be rejection from comp lit (just saw three acceptances on the board, two of them were asked to interview last week) i'm holding onto a ridiculous glimmer of hope that maybe international applicants are evaluated separately? or [after reading your comment about specialty distribution] maybe it has something to do with my project being interdisciplinary? but it's clear this assumption will only lead to a more dragged-on disappointment thank you so much for taking the time to comment on all these aspects, it's nice to have at least *some* information about what's going on with apps at CUNY
  11. I just saw an acceptance to CUNY Comp Lit on the results board, this process really feels like a slow motion heartbreak. If the lucky one is around here, let me know, I have some questions :')
  12. thank you!!!! apparently comp lit is conducting interviews? the web, as you most likely know, has absolutely no information about what happens after you apply. and hey CONGRATULATIONS!!!¡!!!
  13. Hi!!! I applied for Comparative Literature and can feel my brain melting away from the anxiety. I saw some CUNY results on the board, one acceptance via email for English and one interview for Comp Lit, and would love to talk to the posters if they happen to be around here! I am also very surprised to see results this early in the cycle. ANYWAYS, back to pulling my hair out.
  14. no, i applied jan 1st, on the 13th the site started showing the application as "completed", i.e. green tick marks appeared next to the list of documents i uploaded and yes i know it's early
  15. hi everyone! i applied for the Comp Lit PHD at CUNY, still haven't heard back at all, although the portal shows my application as "completed" since 1/13. I am anxious as all hell and there is no info on the page about how long the admissions process takes, whether they interview applicants, AAAAAAAAA.
  16. saw a couple new posts on the results page and nearly flipped why still no news????? I might implode out of sheer anticipation aaaaaaaaaaagshshsja
  17. this person who applied to a program that is specifically targeted at people with three years or less of experience ?‍♀️?‍♀️?‍♀️?‍♀️ Columbia University Journalism School MS Program, Masters (S17) Rejected via Website on 15 Mar 2017 A 15 Mar 2017 I received a rejection via website, after an email was submitted. I am extremely, extremely shocked. I have 3-4 years of internship experience with Fortune 500 companies and publishing brands in the PR, media and communications industry (Conde Nast, Edelman etc.). I have an extended 2 years of Manager/Director experience in start-up environments including an editorial role with a podcast for CBS Radio. This is more than most admitted students in the program over the years. I can get a top job in Journalism regardless, but it would have been nice to have extensive training from the best school in the world. I do think there is a bit of a bias when it comes to students with strong experiences in writing, who've shown they've already succeeded without graduate level training. I don't think this should intimidate the Dean or Professors, but it seems to be a problem for them (I notice a lot of people who get into the Columbia graduate programs have less than 3 years of experience or no experience at all. I know there are applicants with better experiences than this, but Columbia seems to shy away from them). Best of luck to everyone who was admitted! they were so close to understanding!!
  18. Googling around I've seen a few people celebrating their acceptance letters but no one specifies which program (MA or MS) ?
  19. I am so nervous!! I have to write two papers and I just can't concentrate.
  20. Hey! I took the exam today and I found it was indeed less ID-heavy than the Princeton Review book suggests. However, there is some useful advice in there. They explain how test writers can't expect that you know everything ever written in English (and a bunch of other stuff) by heart, which I guess is pretty obvious, but it's important to really keep it in mind, because it leads to the only advice you need: LOOK FOR CLUES. The PR is also useful in all the other ways mentioned above (I'm from Argentina so the timeline and lists really helped fill in the blanks left by my somewhat patchy English Literature knowledge), but I think Parts I and II were the most useful, so don't go straight for those A-B-C lists.
