I'm planning on writing notes by hand because I can write faster than I type. I make lots of typos when I type that I have to correct  immediately because I'm obsessive with spelling and grammar, so I feel like I'd be more distracted. I like the idea of dating each page and writing the topics down the side for easy reference. At the end of the semester I'll scan the notes into my computer.

Another reason I plan on handwriting is that I read (possibly on a grad cafe thread) that something about the physical act of handwriting helps people remember the information better than typing.

That being said, I do really like the idea of typing notes on the powerpoints.

This is exactly how I feel too! I cannot deal with the red lines that pop up from typing mistakes so it drives me crazy to type notes because then I get behind correcting the errors. I have always felt like hand writing notes has helped me pay more attention and focus in class. If I'm on my computer I'm so tempted to check Pinterest/Facebook whatever and get distracted way too easily. I'll probably put each class into a small binder, and then to study for exams I'll type my notes into a google doc to create a study guide and that way they're on my computer too in case anything would happen to my binders.

  2. I just got ACCEPTED to one of my top 2 schools after being waitlisted there back in March! I honestly am in so much shock and so happy!! I hope this provides some hope to others because I seriously thought "oh that won't happen to me I would never get off of a waitlist" and I did! Sending so many thoughts and good vibes to everyone still waiting and wishing for the best for all of you in this position!

If I were you I would email those 2 schools and tell them you're still interested (if you are). They might give you some more information! And also, the waitlists at schools change so frequently that you may have been 9/20 before but you could be higher as people withdraw themselves

Yes I've emailed both schools about my strong interest in them per advice from this thread! The ranked waitlist was just posted yesterday, so I guess it could change by the end of the week! Thanks for the encouragement :)

The alternate list is the waitlist for the actual waitlist. they only have so many original spots on the waitlist and then everyone else that didn't make the waitlist but they did want to completely deny are added to the alternate list.

This makes so much more sense, thank you!!

Is the alternate list different from the waitlist? The email made it sound like they form the alternate list from the waitlist after people turn in their surveys but I don't know...

I think it's the same thing and they use the terms interchangeably? They used both to me in my email. I filled out the survey so they must get the responses from that and then post the list, so sometime after the 30th I'm guessing, but by the 8th it says.

Yes, I didn't complete the video or essays, or "submit" the application. So I was confused when I got the email. I did send my GRE scores though, and I know schools can view your CSDCAS application at any point, it isn't really "submitted". I didn't think they'd consider it though!

Gotcha, that's interesting! you must have some awesome GRE scores!

Our faculty is amazing! Dr. Lu is our program director, Dr. Norman is starting up research, and Ms. Kennedy is our clinical coordinator. All three of them currently teach us classes and I know that they intend on hiring additional lecturers to cover more classes for the upcoming semesters. They are all very invested in our success and their ultimate goal is to make us excellent clinicians that are prepared for the world after graduate school. I do believe our cohort is diverse in all areas besides origin, we are all from Texas, and most of us got our undergraduate educations at Texas public schools. I really think that just because it takes time to get the word out about a new program and most of use were already familiar with the University of Texas System. Our ages range from 22 to mid-thirties, some of us leveled somewhere else, some of us have undergrad degrees in SLP. Some of us have experience as SLPAs, some of us don't. It is a medically based program so most of us have medically based leanings, as does the current faculty. We do not have our own clinic so we won't start practicum until Fall 2018, we will start doing observations this summer. This semester we have only been taking classes. I think that this is mostly because Ms. Kennedy was still setting up relationships the neighboring hospitals, clinics and school districts at the beginning of the semester. Since we have not started practicum I think that the work load has been comfortable, but we have been warned not to get too comfortable because we will continue to be faced with more challenges as the program continues:).

Please continue to ask questions! I wish I had someone to answer my questions when I got accepted in November lol.

Hi, I was accepted as well and love these answers! My question is what classes are you taking now and what do you have scheduled for Fall 2018? DO you generally like the classes so far? Biggest pros of the program in your opinion? Also (feel free to PM about this) do you live in the "medical center area"? I have been to SA many times despite being out of state, my boyfriend went to grad school at UIW and I also have close family friends in the area! I am somewhat familiar with the city layout but would love apartment/area recs on where to live for convenience to school!

I just received an email from them placing me on an alternate list, even though I did not complete my application on CSDCAS (?) So you all should hear back very soon!

Like you didn't complete the CSDCAS portion and were still placed on the alternate list? Ahh I hope I hear back today!

Thanks for posting about Ball State! I was wondering when we'd hear back since their website says mid March to early April, and then also April 1st... I've read online that they mostly accept their own undergrads, so I'm not expecting to be accepted, but I would like to know sooner than later! Do you know anything about an open house or visit day?

Ugh I really hope we hear this week and not into April! I didn't know about their undergrad thing until after I applied, so I am bummed about that but maybe we both still have a chance! I'll keep you posted if I hear anything :)

  10. Waiting on:

Ball State- my friend called them last Tuesday to ask and they told her we would hear "the end of March" sooo hopefully this week since it's the last week in March?

Indiana State- same friend called last Tuesday and they said we should know by the end of the week. This was last week and haven't gotten anything.

Francis Marion University- Due date was March 1st so I'm going to wait until the first week of April to call if I haven't heard!

    Getting impatient over here<_<

  11. Hi everyone!

So I've been denied to 3 schools and waitlisted to one. I applied to 10 total, so waiting to hear from 6 more. I just got an email from UTSA (UT Health at San Antonio) asking me to fill out a doodle poll for dates I'm available for a campus visit. Did anyone else apply to UTSA and know what this means? Is it an interview? I am from out of state so I would need time to book a flight and am kind of nervous since the doodle poll email wasn't specific at all!
