  1. Im pretty sure this is a completely new program, so it hasn't been submitted by anyone
  2. The 5000 is distributed to your institution like how your stipend is. They are then in charge of making sure it’s jsed for appropriate expenses
  3. I just smile and walk away. It isn’t worth it to explain this mistake. I hope everyone hears soon! Still waiting on France
  4. should be able to see it under "view fellowship status change" in the GRFP fastlane portal
  5. Just that it was still being processed
  6. Unless you’re on a special fellowship (NDSEG, NSF GRFP), the university should withhold the necessary taxes, whether that be federal, state, or city. You’ll need to look up specifically what state and city taxes are, but federal for 2018 will be 12%
  7. And for those that have just been funded, buckle up for the wild ride that is doing your taxes on NSF
  8. congrats! I do a bit of collaboration with some of the BE labs - theyre great!
  9. Talk. To. The. Graduate students. While I’m not in CAMB at Penn, I do run recruitment for my program here. If I could emphasize one thing over everything else, it is talk to the graduate students as much as possible. The department can say whatever they want, the graduate students will give you the full story. If you want to hear more about Penn in general, or the Philly area, feel free to message me. People say don’t look at the area you’ll be living in, but you’ll be there for 5+ years so it is mildly important.
  10. I contacted them back when they did the false acceptance (ugh) I got the typical “April May” response. I did go ahead and email my host country today to see if they could any indication but who knows.
  11. I actually don't think I'll be able to do my project if we aren't notified soon...I won't be able to get the visa in time, and that is with having university connections with the embassy.
  12. The organization is very easily changed! I had applied saying I would go to "x" school, and then once I accepted my offer for admission to a different school, I was ablem to change it in the fast lane portal. Congrats!
  13. Hoping for it to be the GROW grant, sorry not sorry haha
  14. So you definitely can. I did two things: I contacted the main professor I had been looking to work for as well as the office for that program and explained that I had been offered this fellowship, was still interested in the school etc. It worked for me, however, I know other schools in which it didn’t work (ex one of the two in the relationship got into a school, both got NSF GRFP, asked for her to be admitted so they would both come, school said no). I didn’t end up going to that institution but I wanted to see if I could get an acceptance post NSF acceptance However, some unsolicited advice. People I know that have done this normally haven’t had a great time in their graduate careers. The admission process is a mutual selection process in that you pick them and they pick you. It sounds silly, but there is generally a reason they don’t think you’ll fit with the program.
  15. you definitely do not. You just get the ratings, and the comments reference: my application
  16. I am a little confused on why we are even able to submit for a June 1st start date, if we aren't finding out until April. Who can get a visa in two months?
