  1. is it too early to start thinking about a plan B? i was pretty confident before but now that i have submitted everything, i realized that nothing i do for the next few months would matter. perhaps the healthiest way for me is to start planning for the worst so at least ill have something to fall back on. i have so much respect for people who went through this process multiple times!
  2. um yesss. the waiting part (so far) is worse than the preparation part.
  3. youll be fine - they wont even notice unless that threw the entire paragraph off (which I dont see how an "a" can do)
  4. i am on the same boat. submitted everything 2 days ago and have had trouble sleeping since. at least before we had control over what we write on our applications but now its completely out of our hands.
  5. I know that there have been mixed responses on this in the past but where are you guys re: emailing POIs after you submitted your application? I'm thinking of thanking those who I had spoken to over the phone/Skype and those who had responded to me enthusiastically over email to inform them that I had applied, but wondering if this is even an acceptable practice nowadays. Thoughts?
  6. i would call them to check. i sent mine a couple of weeks ago and all my schools have them as "Verified".
  7. it depends on the school and program. some MSW programs are very clinically focused and you would get the clinical training that you need from that. you can also request to be placed at clinical settings for your internship rotations. speak to your advisor about your intent and build your portfolio around that. a little about me: i graduated from msw from a clinically focused program and have worked at multiple agencies as a therapist since graduating. i know a lot of people in my cohort who did the same, so it can definitely be done! PM me if you want any specific tips!
  8. just submitted 3/10 apps today. about to submit 4 more by the end of the day. just when i think this process ends here, i remember that we have the joy of doing this all over again for every grants and fellowship we apply to in the future. YAY academia!
  9. is it better to wait or submit early? i know that editing one/two sentences here and there in my SOPs is not going to change anything but i have a problem of "letting go".
  10. Wondering about this too. I receive a notification when the transcripts are received (you can often track that from your end when you place the order). But I haven’t heard anything about the GRE. Might be worth a call to the grad admission office just to make sure.
  11. All the UCs are asking for a Personal History and Diversity Statement in addition to SOP. Not sure what exactly they are looking for. I'm afraid that writing about my immigrant/minority story is going to be cliche. Do I need to be very specific on how I plan to contribute to the diversity of the student body? What do you guys write about?
  12. wouldn't it help you that you did apply though? i asked around about including it on my CV and was advised against it (since i won't know whether or not i'll get it before admission decision)
  13. has anyone applied for grant funding previous to submitting their grad school application? how did you weave this into your SOP? i just applied to the NSF grant and although my research proposal is aligned with what i want to study in grad school, im not sure how to bring that up without sounding out of place in my SOP...wondering if anyone else is in the same boat...
  14. hey there - would be happy to do the same...same with you @Psygeek. im almost done-ish with my first draft and would like to have a pair of eyes (or two) on them. i'm taking a rather non-typical formatting approach and wondering if it'll work.
  15. are you applying to clinical psych programs? i think adcomms in general care more about research experience (which you have a lot of). i wouldn't worry about clinical experience as long as you can demonstrate that you have good understanding of clinical implications in your population of interest (and how you got to your decision to work with that population). maybe your volunteer/life experiences can help in that aspect. i think your GRE score is strong, i was always under the impression that the verbal is more important of the two for psych programs.
  16. hey all, are any of you adding the grants that you've applied to your CV? i am applying to grad school this cycle and wondering if i should add this to my CV, i won't find out before grad school decisions. i would talk about it in my SOP but i dont know if i have space to...
  17. hey there, do you mind sharing what the "cutoff" GRE scores are for the schools you were looking at? All the programs that I am applying to don't have a cut-off per say but I am just below the 160 "gold standard" scores and wondering if I need to retake. also applying to developmental psych programs so it'll be good for me to find out what the "industry standard" is.
  18. Did you ever find an answer to your question? i'm afraid that i may be on the same boat. applying to grad school this cycle, got my masters in 2013 but took non-matriculated undergrad classes and earned a certificate last year. this is making me nervous since i've been working hard on my proposals and it would suck if i am not eligible.
