  1. Does anyone know if University of Maryland, College Park has sent out their invites yet? I only saw two posts on the results page and wondered if it was just one PI or not. Also, has anyone received an in-person interview invite from Iowa State University? Thank you!!
  2. My strategy for any unexpected questions is to take a few seconds to gather thoughts and try to stay calm! - One question that I definitely was not expecting during my last phone interview was: What’s the one movie/book/event that is the most influential for you? I guess my POI wanted to test how well I react on my feet? - I’ve heard of another question my labmate got asked during her in-person interview: If you can have any super-power of your choice, what would you choose?
  3. Just some personal though process: I think now should be a good time to ask any interview-related questions (i.e., specific questions regarding the interview day/weekend, whoelse will you meet besides your POI). If you don’t have any questions but still want to stay connected with your POI, maybe one thing you can do is to ask your POI if they can send you their most recent publications that are in press. I personally didn’t do this and only inquired about interview preparations before my interviews. I believe professors and programs expect students to discuss stuff in depth at the interview.
  4. To the person who got an interview from the University of Maryland - could you share your POI through PM? Thank you so much!
  5. A LOT OF programs send out interview invites in January. So keep being positive and prepare as much as you can for you upcoming interview! Ask advice from you supervisors or friends and find out what you might want to do differently from you previous interviews if you can. Good luck!!! And as for me: I’m so anxious now that the holidays are over and I’m not ready to hear bad news yet?? But I’m keeping positive and preparing for my upcoming interviews!!
  6. Hope no one’s like me - refreshing the results page every hour even today, on NYE. GO OUT AND HAVE FUN! OR STAY HOME AND BE COZY! Enjoy the last day of 2018 with your friends, family, or loved ones. Reward yourself for all your hardwork in the past year. The stressful interview months will come before we know it, so take a break. Happy new year everyone!
  7. Anyone heard back from USC yet? I know they historically send out invites in December, but I haven’t seen anyone posting about USC yet. Fingers crossed!!
  8. Good luck!! I just had my phone interview as well, but my program said they will give out in-person invites in Janurary... the waiting anxiety is so real.
  9. School: Southern Methodist University Type: Clinical Psychology PHD Date of invite: Dec. 17, 2018 Type of invite: Email from POI Interview date(s): interview weekend: Jan. 24-26; actual interview: Jan. 25
  10. Thanks so much for everyone’s feedback! They’re all really helpful. Thank you!!!
  11. I got a preliminary phone interview invite from Iowa State University and an official interview invite from Purdue University. So nervous and stressed... Good luck everyone! We got this!
  12. Hi all! My PI contacted me and offered me an interview. He explained that I can either choose to attend a Skype interview or an in-person interview, and he will treat applicants attending the two equally. I chose the Skype option due to work. However, the program’s website specifically wrote that applicants not attending the on-campus interview will be disadvantaged due to faculty unable to determine fit. I also know that with the Skype option, I’ll talk with two faculty for 30 minutes, including my PI; and at the on-campus interview, I’ll have multiple formal and informal interviews with faculty and current students. I now feel that I should have gone with the on-campus interview, but I already told my PI that I’ll do the Skype interview. Do you all think it’s necessary to worry about this or to email my PI again just to confirm? Thanks so much! Good luck everyone!
  13. I would suggest using the Insider’s Guide to Clinical and Counseling Psychology, which is available on Amazon. The book categorizes programs by research/program focus. I primarily used it in my application process to find programs and PIs, and it’s been a huge help.
  14. Start thinking about who can write you exceptional and personal letters now. If you can’t think of three letters, focus on developing relationships with more professors this year.
  15. Applying to 6 clinical and 7 counseling here!
  16. Thanks all! Some of my programs show status of transcript on the online portal, but most don’t. So I guess i’ll have to call the schools... Good luck everyone!!
  17. Hello all! Do you all check with your programs to ensure they have received your GRE scores and your transcripts? Is this necessary? I’m applying to 17 schools, and I really don’t want to spend all that time emailing all the programs. But at the same time, I want to make sure they have received my materials. Any thoughts? Thank you!!!
  18. Haha. We’re the complete opposite. I do worry about the insane costs. But I’m seriously anxious about ending up not getting into any programs. I took two gap years off and hope to get back to school next year. Guess there’s no way of knowing for sure what’s gonna happen. Good luck!!!!!
  19. Thanks! I’ll probably stick to my 13 and start writing my essays. I’m applying to masters as well. Hashtag the anxiety is real lol. Best of luck!!!
  20. Hi All!! So great to have found this post! How many programs are on your final lists? I have 13 (clinical and counseling phds) on my list. I'm worried if I should have more? The fact that there's no such thing as "safety schools" make me panic? Schools on my list: Clinical: University of Southern California; Southern Methodist University; Miami University; Purdue University; University of Hawaii at Manoa; University of California, Los Angelas Counseling: University of Maryland, College Park; New York University; University of Minnesota, Twin Cities; University at Albany/State University of New York; Iowa State University; Purdue University; University of Utah Good luck everyone!!!
  21. I think you’re right. Different programs have their own policies regarding how they want GRE scores to be reported.
  22. Thank you so much! This is what I was thinking, too.
  23. I think different programs have different policies regarding this. Thank you for the suggestion though. I will definitly send both if allowed!
  24. Hello! Can you give me suggestions on which one of the two GRE scores to use and whether I should re-take the GRE Psychology Subject Test? I will be applying to clinical and counseling programs, mainly phds and terminal masters as backups. Thank you so much! - GRE 1. V161, Q157, AWA4.5 - GRE 2. V158, Q162, AWA (waiting, likely 4-4.5) - GRE Psych 730, 85 percentile
