Hi, How much coding experience do you need before attending graduate school? I would like to get a Ph.D. in cognitive psychology using behavioral and computational methods to study various aspects of cognition. I understand that some programs focus more heavily on computational methods over behavioral, and vice versa; I wanted to know how much they expect you to know when applying. I have taken basic courses in MATLAB and Python, and a statistics class in R. How much more in depth do they expect psychology majors to be when applying to these types of programs? Hello, (late) congratulations on your acceptance to NYU's program. If you don't mind me asking, what range of GRE scores were/are they looking for? NYU is my top choice and I would really like to be best prepared for applying in the future. Thank you.

Hello, I have taken the GRE twice now and received the same score (154V, 157Q). I am very disappointed but I also realize that the score is not the worst thing in the world, especially since it could have gotten worse. I have several questions I was hoping someone could help me with: If I were to retake the GRE (hoping to hit 320 this time) what courses/strategies would you suggest? Is it even necessary if everything else in my applications is competitive? I'm looking at schools like NYU which are more computational modeling focused. How necessary is the GRE Psychology Subject Test? (most of my schools don't ask for it but one or two "recommend" it) Best source for cognitive psychology program GRE ranges Please let me know.
