Nope, which is why I assumed implied rejection! So that email probably just went out to those who got the doodle poll. But regardless, there's still so many schools we haven't heard back from!

@dilby That’s a good idea, except my .edu is my main bc I’m still in school, and I get 30-40 emails to it a day! Think that would add to rather than relieve stress ?

Even though I have all of the email addresses for the schools I applied to marked so they won’t go to my spam folder, I still end up checking my normal inbox and also my spam folder, several times an hour. Even though I’m not expecting to be notified for a week or two from my schools! Just forever waiting for That Email!

Everyone! If you need something calming and restful and rejuvenating for your soul, I highly recommend listening to the If Beale Street Could Talk score. It's transcendently beautiful and great music to listen to while working, cooking, writing, or whatever you all are doing to pass the time and reduce anxiety in the waiting.

@dilby LMAOOOOO please make a thread where you just post fire literary memes every day! This is real! Doing my best--spending a lot of time at the beach, in yoga classes, in rehearsals for the play I'm directing, and going out for drinks with friends. The thing I'm having a hard time doing is quieting the nervous background noise of it all that makes me check my email a few times an hour...I think the main stress trigger for me right now is the not-knowing. I can make peace with positive or negative outcomes, but the helplessness of this period is getting to me and is like a program running in the back of my brain all the time, overheating my systems and draining my battery!

Ugh. I'm feeling really discouraged about my prospects. I know I shouldn't give up but that's a bit how I'm feeling right now. And I know that I still haven't even heard back from 6/7 of the places I applied, but it's been a long time since I've wanted anything this bad and I just feel anxious anticipating the feelings of rejection/failure. But what's supposed to happen will happen, and if I have to try again, I'll try again as a stronger applicant!

Yeah I feel for sure! As someone with a background in philosophy, it can feel a little surface level, but I still find a lot of the humor to be more existential and intelligent than that of many other sitcoms!

Do any of the rest of you here watch The Good Place? It is great at cheering the endless anxiety parade that is waiting for decisions!

In my opinion, very much worth the read! A big time commitment, but there are some really powerful phrases that are still lodged in me.

I'm sure you did better than you think you did! It's really easy to get down on yourself but I think that we almost always do better than we think, not worse. Don't get too discouraged!

Me. I woke up this morning with a notification in the group chat from my abroad semester with the news article announcing it. Oliver was such a compassionate genius and her words have been so comforting to me at so many points in my life. It's a sad, sad day. ?

It's truly unbelievable! I used Bear in a theatre piece last year and I almost cried every time--"We'll make only quick decisions", ugh. Wow, we truly are! Love to find that. I haven't listened to Soko, but now I'll definitely have to check her out. Keaton is another great option of music for crying, haha!

@The Wordsworthian Hospice! Transatlanticism! In The Aeroplane Over the Sea! We have very very similar taste. Hospice especially is so much poetry. Hmmm hard to choose. I think if I were to do it as a real course, I'd focus on the 2010-2020 decade and organize the course historically, and the syllabus would probably be more varied and feature albums that I don't necessarily like, but think are important (like My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy). But, if it were just albums I love, just to talk about lyrics as a medium of poetry, I'd probably say we'd share Hospice, Carrie & Lowell, Transatlanticism, and In the Aeroplane..., and I'd then add The Idler Wheel... by Fiona Apple, A Brief Inquiry... by The 1975, 22, A Million by Bon Iver, High As Hope by Florence + The Machine, I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning by Bright Eyes, Melodrama by Lorde, and Kindly Now by Keaton Henson. And then it's a toss up for me if I would represent The National with Trouble Will Find Me or Sleep Well Beast, but I think I lean toward the latter! And I feel like I should have something by The Mountain Goats in there, but I can't decide which album.

!!!! Ooo tell me what albums you’d put on your syllabus? The National are e v e r y t h i n g. I truly think of Matt as a poet. I’ve seen them live twice. And agree—his solo stuff is also lovely! Also the Dessner brothers have been doing some fun collaborations with other artists which is cool too.

Totally agree here—The National and Sufjan are my go-to music for crying. And @The Wordsworthian I have this pipe dream of someday teaching a “Lyric as Poetry” course analyzing lyrics like poetry, focusing on significant albums of the 2010 decade. Carrie & Lowell would definitely be a week of the syllabus. Idk how Sufjan will ever top it! And @lyonel_ I second this! The live performance wrecked me on another level.

I have been doing the exact same thing! I think I make a new playlist every couple of days. Also, so with you on alt-J, Sufjan, Sharon van Etten, and Joni Mitchell--all faves of mine too!

OH I understand. When you said "(my name isn't jane)" I thought you meant that he'd called you by a different name haha. Still weird as hell to say "dear," and super uncomfortable imho.

I really recommend I Like America & America Likes Me, Love It If We Made It, I Couldn't Be More In Love, A Change of Heart, Paris, Robbers, Me, If I Believe You, and Inside Your Mind. That's like a million but yknow. The most famous ones are probably Chocolate, Sex, and The Sound, and those are all really good too! This gets me wondering--what kind of music do you all like? We've talked about books and movies, but not much about music yet.

@jadeisokay Same for me! Their music really just makes me happy and gets me amped up. I can't even imagine what it's going to be like in person.

@The Wordsworthian RIGHT!? It's gonna be the best night ever--I've seen some pics from this tour and it's visually so wild and beautiful. @SomeoneAcceptMe I have too! I've loved them since like 2013-2014, and I didn't go the last time I had the chance to see them, and have been regretting it for years...I'm just trying to put more and more good things on the slate for March-April.
