  1. Do you watch Brooklyn 9-9? I definitely heard your "Cool, cool, cool" in Andy Samberg's voice haha!
  2. Came out of class today with 12 new unread emails! Was certain one of them was going to be from Northwestern, but alas...shellacked again.
  3. Right!? I've been eating ice cream and binge watching the newer season of American Crime Story every night and it is a good way to cope. Also went stargazing in the middle of the night with a dear friend of mine on Saturday and I highly recommend it for anyone who feels like this process has sapped away the poetic parts of their soul.
  4. I actually got Milk & Cookies, which is maybe my favorite ice cream in the entire world. Exactly what my heart needs this week.
  5. @jadeisokay Gotcha! For a second there I was literally hitting the refresh button on my email every 5 seconds ahahah!
  6. Where are you seeing this!? I can't see it on the results page!
  7. There are a few fellowships I'm thinking of applying to but rn I am so paralyzed thinking about decisions and the possibility of a shut-out that it's making me stressed to put the cart before the horse. Anyone else in this boat?
  8. Last night I splurged on a pint of Ben & Jerry's (I usually don't budget for snacks of any kind, especially not pricey ones like that!). Hopefully it'll get me through the week!
  9. I got a third part-time job today, and it pays much better than the other two I have! It's going to make my quality of life a lot better just to have an extra hundred bucks or so a week!
  10. @WildeThing Yeah, I only have Northwestern down for this week from my list. I'm just having a weird feeling based in almost no evidence that this week is gonna be the kickoff of really hearing. But same for me--the two weeks after that are the big ones for me too.
  11. Anyone else feel in their bones that this is going to be a big week in terms of hearing back?
  12. Guys! Literally the wildest thing just happened. I’m literally tipsy at a Denny’s rn and my server is an MA student at UCSB...we get talking and turns out she knows both of my POIs and one of them is her advisor! Crazy but she said she’d put in a good word for me!
  13. I've been digging back into the work of Czeslaw Milosz, who is a particular fave of mine. Also, I bought Ocean Vuong's Night Sky with Exit Wounds at a Planned Parenthood used book sale in the fall, and just now got around to reading it. It's AMAZING. I'm also a huge fan of Chen Chen. These three are probably my favorites of his: Poplar Street: https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poetrymagazine/poems/58154/poplar-street Poem in Noisy Mouthfuls: https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/143242/poem-in-noisy-mouthfuls I'm Not A Religious Person But https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poetrymagazine/poems/58152/im-not-a-religious-person-but Also recommend signing up for the poets.org Poem-A-Day thing--sends one poem every morning to your email!
  14. @manymusings14 @illcounsel Oooooh--this wasn't my original intention when I made this thread, but I think it could be helpful if we all could post visit weekend dates as we learn them? Could be good for applicants in future years to get a lay of the land!
  15. @PsyDGrad90 Thank you so much! That's helpful to know. The presentation changed names, but otherwise has remained the same, so I'll keep it with the single listing and add the details on the other instances underneath.
  16. Y E S. The amount to which I've been phoning it in in my classes is extreme. In one of my classes I literally just peruse GradCafe for the entire hour. The other day I said to my housemate "I don't have any homework!" and she said "Listen. I know for a fact you do have homework. You're just not doing it!"
  17. If I've presented a presentation at multiple conferences, how do I talk about that on my CV? For context, I first gave this presentation at my undergrad institution. It was then presented by my supervisor with my permission at a different conference in Summer 2018. I'm now going to present it again at yet another different conference this February. Should I make a line for the first time I gave the presentation, with bullets underneath describing the other times it was presented, or should I make a separate line/description for each time it was given? Thanks!
  18. of course!!! I LOVE boygenius. Went through a particularly painful heartbreak in September, and Me & My Dog was really the song of that time for me...no lyric can quite capture how it felt more than "I wanna be emaciated / I wanna hear one song without thinking of you". Truly all of them are so talented. Would love to see them tour, but alas...
  19. @manymusings14 I'm holding off until around Feb 10--that's theoretically (based on past data) when I should hear from some of my schools. After that, I feel like I'll have a better sense of the territory!
  20. !!! Omg! I'm so glad you came here to talk about this album because it is EVERYTHING. I saw Phoebe Bridgers open for The National this fall and I wasn't familiar before but IMMEDIATELY was hooked. She's a genius!
  21. @mwils15 @northwestnative I just listened bc of this! Wow, I'm loving it, it feels a little more melodic and poppy than some of their old stuff. Has anyone else listened to Better Oblivion Community Center, the new collaboration between Conor Oberst (of Bright Eyes) and Phoebe Bridgers!? I just found it this morning and I'm obsessed.
  22. @dilby Shakespeare's tragedy cannot compare to this tragedy, of knowing this meme exists, and knowing we will not see it.
  23. @kendalldinniene LMAO I also just got an email from ticketmaster. urrrrghhhhhhh.
  24. @kendalldinniene Currently listening to the THIS podcast episode on Death! It's a podcast about non-dual thinking from various spiritual perspectives (kind of Buddhist, pantheistic, pseudo-Christian). Not quite as juicy as like, true crime podcasts, but very philosophical/thoughtful and sometimes funny.
  25. Today's dubiously healthy coping mechanism is...listening to podcasts about death!
