  1. Weird, nothing on the survey yet... I guess rejection will come Monday for me since I doubt a post-5pm-on-a-Friday response is likely.
  2. NYU finally announced official rejections...
  3. Strange! I had the same contact with them about 4-5 weeks ago. it was confusing and I actually had to re-send them one of my transcripts and got zero communication until 3 days ago that they'd received it. Hopefully we'll hear more soon!
  4. Hey Coiny, It's in my top three, of which I'm still waiting to hear from one... And I'm waiting on funding info which certainly matters in my decision making. I am really excited about it and will make a decision ASAP as I know there are people waiting. Best of luck and I'll let you know more when I do!
  5. Hey Coiny, I heard a couple of days ago that I'd been accepted. No news on funding possibilities yet, but I'm thrilled to have gotten in.
  6. Has anyone gotten any indication as to when UC, Davis might make decisions? I haven't heard a peep from them... even before the submission date when I simply had an application-related question. Any news? Thanks, all!
  7. Hey alh, I applied to their PhD and got invited to the MA, as well. I also lived in DC for a few years, so in addition to fanon_fanatic, I'm happy to chime in on any city questions you might have. I won't be attending the MA because I've been accepted to 2 phd programs. However, I do think GW's program looks great and it'd be a great option if I didn't already have a funded MA under my belt and phd opportunities available. Definitely message me if you want to chat and best of luck on whatever you decide!
  8. Hey Eleanor, I actually applied to the U of Toronto phd program as well. I think it's a reach for me as far as overlap between POIs research and my research, but it looked like such a great program that I had to apply. I don't know how notification typically goes from U of Toronto because there isn't much posted on here from previous years. So, I'd say yes, it's typical for admitted applicants to receive word in advance, but the fact that he mentions "invitations" implies (to me) that they haven't extended advanced notices yet. But who knows? At least we have a timeline and know it will be via email rather than snail mail! Best of luck to you!
  9. Ah omahairish, you beat me to the punch -- I hadn't refreshed to see your response. I think you might be right, though I'm staying hopeful. Best of luck; hopefully we'll get news this week!
  10. I'm in the same boat. I saw the 2 rejections, but no word on my application yet. I'm assuming the rest will go out in the next week or so as it seems that in previous years the rejections went out well in advance of the acceptances. That or they just didn't get to all of the rejections on Friday and I'm being overly hopeful. Good luck!
  11. Thanks, Seeking. I'm trying! The one program I've been accepted to involves unclear funding, so I'm just hoping for one more with guaranteed funding so that I don't have to worry! Best of luck to you!
  12. True, thanks for the clarification. One of the African American Studies says both though (African American Studies and American Studies), so I wasn't sure. As for the New England studies, I'm confused too. I'm presently holding my breath -- best of luck to everyone!!
  13. Anyone want to claim any of the 3 Yale posts that have appeared since yesterday? Do you know if they made all of their calls yesterday or how many people they're admitting?
  14. Hi Seeking, The Columbia rejection was mine. I'm not totally surprised about the rejection for many reasons, and honestly, I'm just excited to know at this point rather than continuing to wait on another app! I was the one asking a bit ago if anyone else had applied there. I don't think many folks on here did since I didn't get any responses. Best of luck to all!
  15. Did anyone else apply to the Theatre Phd program at Columbia? Has anyone written to get a gauge of when we might hear? The limited number of dates from past years has me on the edge of my seat.
  16. Hey Clown, I hear you! I got into the MA program at NYU a couple of years ago, but the lack of financial support made the decision for me. I couldn't afford it. I ended up going into a funded Women's Studies masters program and have been really happy with my decision (i finish in May and yes, writing a thesis while under application stress is making concentration a challenge!). And while I will have a masters and I applied to the PhD in Performance studies at NYU, 33 out of the 35 phd students on their website went to NYU for their masters... so it seems a bit hopeless even as it would be a great fit. I got into Gender Studies PhD program a couple of weeks ago, but I'm still waiting on any funding possibilities to appear. I totally agree with you, the agony stinks and I really just need one good funded offer to quell the anxiety. Do you know when the visitation weekend is at UT, Austin? I wasn't given that info in my interview. Best of luck, I hope we all end up with at least one funded offer!
  17. Hey Clown, I also had an interview with UT-Austin (on friday 2/10) but not with either POI named in my statement, which was interesting. The interview went really well, and he said they meet later this week and decisions will go out in 2 weeks, or so... and that it wasn't necessarily a bad sign if I hadn't heard anything and that I could feel free to contact him anytime. But still... Huge congrats on the immediate acceptance! I guess I'm just freaking out a little now, since I'm hanging out here in post-interview land. I don't know that the person with whom I interviewed is able to immediately say, "you're accepted," but it still feels weird. Is UT, Austin your top choice? Thanks and congrats again!
  18. Good news - I got an email from UT-Austin telling me I'm on the short list and that they'd like to do an interview tomorrow or Monday. Fingers crossed! @ salvatura - I'm so sorry to hear of the rejection. It sucks and you're absolutely right, the GRE is a horrible, useless test.
  19. I'm so glad this thread exists! I applied to American Studies and Gender Studies programs (in addition to the 3 performance studies programs i mentioned in an earlier post) as well because my research is situated somewhere in the midst of the three. But secretly, I'm hoping for performance studies.
  20. I applied to the UT-Austin, Performance as Public Practice program, but I haven't heard anything. I did see something today that was posted on February 6th -- someone was rejected via email. But I haven't heard anything... maybe no news is good news or maybe they're just shortening the list round-by-round?? I'm really hopeful for the program. I also applied to UC-Davis, Performance Studies and NYU, Performance Studies. Anyone heard anything from UC-Davis? I know NYU won't be for another month. Best of luck!
  21. I agree. I have absolutely no problem hearing about other people's application successes via facebook. It's another way to offer them congrats! For me, however, it's way too personal. It may or may not have to do with age, but since facebook wasn't around when I was an undergrad, I don't think I ever got used to sharing my day-to-day quite so much. By the time I applied to my masters program 5 years after finishing my undergrad, I didn't even think of facebook as a sharing option. But hey, that's just me! Now, applying to PhD programs, I don't even want to tell half my family the exact list because it seems too soon to get excited or dejected. Again though, I'm a really private person with regard to this stuff, so maybe I'm overly guarded on facebook.
  22. I'm a US student thinking of doing my MA at U of Leeds. I applied for a 1/2 scholarship through the university, but haven't heard back yet. Leeds administers Fed Stafford loans through the FELP program. Any word on how the heath care reform legislation (which also pushes for reform from FELP to Direct Loans for schools still using FELP) will affect me taking out Stafford loans to study at Leeds or at any other UK school that currently uses FELP? The financial aid officer there was very helpful and said that the switch was imminent, but is anyone else worried about it being an issue... ie, i say no to the US schools I was admitted to by April 15th, yes to leeds, only to find out I can't get stafford loans anymore..?
  23. Is anyone thinking of going to Leeds (U of Leeds), UK? Anyone who went there have some positive or negative experiences they'd be willing to share? Also, should I worry about the new switch from FFELP to Direct Loans? The financial aid person at Leeds was very helpful, but did mention that they may be switching pending the US government's decision... which has now been made. Should I be concerned about my access to Stafford Loans or am I ok? I'm really excited about their program - MA in Gender Studies (Research) - but since I've also been accepted to schools here in the US, I'm having the first week of April jitters... like, what if I turn down my US offers for Leeds and then something goes wrong with the loans and I can't go to grad school next year. Ah! Any thoughts? Thanks!
