From my experience applying in the past for both BSW and MSW programs and from my friends who got in after we just graduated from our BSW (I.e we finished in June and they started in September), you don’t have to have post-social work experience as in working as a “social worker”, counsellor, etc. They want you to have experience in social service/human service related work and have skills that can be applicable to social work (I.e analytical skills, program facilitation, case management, active listening skills, assessment experience, advocacy, etc.).
So if you can validate your work or volunteer experience being related to that field and the skills you have acquired related to social work, you should have a good shot.
    Hope this helps!

I’m sorry to hear about the anguish  I hope you don’t lose faith! It is still early on in the acceptance process (like really early). So there are still people who may have not heard back and people who will decline their offers down the road!
I was in your position for the last few years. This was the third time around I applied for my MSW and only till this time around was I successful. It’s great your thinking of strategies to help with this stress though! I wish I did that in the past.
I hope if there’s anything to take away from this post, I hope you don’t lose faith in your passion and abilities! Regardless of what the outcome is, keep striving for this dream. It sounds like you are passionate and care about this career, so I hope that drives helps you achieve your goals in the end.
    Best of luck with everything!

Nothing for me yet either. Trying to gently remind myself that my self-worth isn’t reliant on how these institutions perceive me. Hope y’all are able to carry some gentleness with yourselves as well ?

For anyone asking about how UofT communicates their decision: they will not email to say a decision has been made, you will need to continually check back on SGS and ACORN, then wait for the official documentation to come through the physical mail. SGS will show "Decision Made", it won't actually tell you what the decision is, unfortunately (hurray for the ACORN loophole!).
For my Advanced-Standing friends, may our distress only continue for another week! I applied last year and I heard back around Feb 20th so I'm hopeful that they'll stick to this general timeline again

I am an older student who changed career paths (international relations/anthropology), went back to school and received my BSW in 2017. I applied to Waterloo and Laurier distance based advanced standing MSW part-time programs. I had a GPA of 4.1   and 10,000 hours of human service related work (policy and service delivery with rural/remote communities, international field work, working with Indigenous populations) and volunteering (service delivery, outreach, and board work). My placements were in Child Protection and the Family Violence Intervention Court.  I work with refugees, particularly women who have experienced prolonged captivity and extreme sexual and gender based violence. My personal statement reflected this work and clinical skills I hope to develop to further support this population.
I was accepted at Laurier, and am still waiting to hear from Waterloo.

I was accepted into Laurier's may online cohort. My stats are:
Completing my BA in Child and Youth Care in April. Currently my cumulative GPA is 3.93 (4.0 in my last 10 courses).
I have been working as an educational assistant for the OCDSB since I got my diploma in Child and Youth Work in 2010. For the last 2 years I have been in an alternate high school program for First Nations, Metis and Inuit students, but I have also worked in mainstream classes and spec. ed programs for students with behaviour and mental health diagnoses.
I also spent 4 years working for the special needs department of the City of Ottawa parks and rec. I have worked in and then run therapeutic rec programs for children with behaviour and mental health diagnoses and programs for children who are on the autism spectrum.
My placements were with a semi-independent housing program for justice-involved youth and a day treatment school-based program for young people with mental health disorders.

Hello everyone! I just received an email that I was accepted into the advanced standing at Carleton!  I've been a bit of a lurker on this site but wanted to say it's been super helpful following along, so thank you all! I'm still unsure if I will attend Carleton as I am waiting on a few more schools, but good luck to everyone....the time of waiting is finally drawing to a close (for some schools anyway!)

I also separated out the questions in my UofT application because I thought it was the best way for me to communication my ideas clearly and coherently.
My advice would be to choose the format that you feel most comfortable with or the format that makes your writing sound better. I have a hard time believing that the formatting will make or break your application. People get accepted using either format.
