  1. If anyone is wondering about the University of Michigan, they do not interview before making their decisions.
  2. I applied to UCSB too! Are you going to the open house? I really wanted to apply to CU but the require a master’s. Good luck!
  3. It looks like last year Stanford interview invites went out around February 7-9 with acceptances and rejections about a week later.
  4. Okay, I leave for my interview weekend on Thursday and I’m kind of panicking because I’m sick! Like nose continuously running, exhausted, sore throat, mouth breathing, sneezing sick! I’m also full time in my last semester of undergrad with an hour long commute in blizzard conditions. I had planned to spend this week reading articles and preparing but I really need sleep if I’m going to beat this. And I’m worried I’m going to be miserable and make everyone else miserable at my interviews. Also, they’re having a fun dinner out Thursday night with the grad students from 7-9pm which is 10-midnight my time and I will have been traveling for like 8 hours at that point and I don’t know what to do. (Also this is my top choice program and only interview in this field! ?) Advice?
  5. I did some searching the forums about this awhile ago, and I’m pretty sure that what previous applicants were saying is that Penn doesn’t interview.
  6. I'm not sure why you're accusing @healthyanthro as a spammer? There appears to be five people that got interviews for HASTS from January 22-24 last year and the year before. I don't see anything questionable about their post. (Also, perhaps you are just feeling the stress of application season, but healthyanthro did not even appear to be "disagreeing" with you, instead they were doing what you asked and informing you of another school who has sent out invites.) Just because it's their first post to the forum doesn't mean they're a spammer. Everyone has a first post sometime , and this post about HASTS interviews appears entirely legitimate. In addition, @synthema also knows someone who received an invite.
  7. I haven’t experienced this, but did you look at the text in your application checklist once you clicked on it? I know that Penn’s text was updated inside the checklist once my app went into “ready for review” status. I would email them if I were you and ask what you’re supposed to see. I hope it’s good news!
  8. Thanks for posting this! Congratulations on getting in, too!
  9. Not to get your hopes up, but I don’t see why this means you’re officially out. Was this your specific PI that admitted someone? You had more than one, did they both personally choose someone? If their applications don’t close until the 1st, then they are likely still reviewing. Some departments at my current school open in November and begin reviewing then and continue until the deadline in February. Students are admitted throughout that time and after. Some strong candidates may get in early, but others still get in later. Personally, from what I’ve seen here and in the results section, it’s not over until you get a formal rejection. I don’t want to add to your emotional roller coaster, but I’m just saying it doesn’t seem like you have no chance to me, especially if they’re still taking apps.
  10. Tomorrow is Friday? It’s only noon on the East Coast of the US so you’ve got 5-8 hours today, depending on the school, plus all day tomorrow.
  11. Not me. How interesting that it’s snail mail though. I just added a last minute application to Michigan State, anyone else apply there?
  12. Does anyone know anything about the University of Washington? (Non-clinical) I’ve seen just one interview for developmental, one for cognitive, and one Skype interview for social about two weeks ago and that’s it. Their website makes it sound like they invite people to campus but I’m not sure if that’s after they’ve been admitted. It just seems like a low number of interviews for this time of year. Anyone heard anything?
  13. Anyone hear anything more about Colorado Boulder? I'm wondering if the one invitation we saw here is it and maybe the rest just aren't on this forum. In the past they have sent out their invitations by now it seems. Same for the University of Washington, I'm wondering if they're done. I don't see much in the results from years past about interviews or prospective weekends at all.
  14. I’m not going to say that social capital isn’t a huge help, but to keep those of us without it from feeling hopeless, I would just like to say that I have been invited to two interview weekends at two top programs that I have no connections to. I also am coming straight from undergrad. I think the main reason for this is my experience and most importantly research fit. I also had two strong letters of recommendation. And so far, the one school where my current mentor knew my POI has not come calling. So I really think that there is more to it than who you know.
  15. It’s my first cycle too, but I assume it’s all of the things tied to enrollment, like funding packages and getting official transcripts and everything needed to finalize the acceptance plus organizing any welcome events or whatever. There is a lot of information that needs to go out to the people admitted. They’re probably fielding a lot of questions too. Plus they will be tracking which offers were not accepted so they can admit waitlisted people, etc.
  16. I got an invite to UCSB’s graduate open house! Anyone else going? It sounds amazing. So excited!
  17. Hi, I applied to the Childhood Studies phd program at Rutgers Camden. Anyone else? My interest is in children and the media mostly from a social cognitive perspective, so I applied to a range of psychology and communication programs, but Rutgers the only interdisciplinary program I found. I’d love to know of any others out there in case I don’t get accepted anywhere this year!
  18. Oh I see what you’re asking. I spend most of my time in the psychology forum where an implied rejection means you didn’t get an interview, because most programs or at least POIs interview there. My guess on the answer to your question about places that don’t interview would be that most departments are small with limited staff handling the graduate application process. There is a lot to do once a cohort has been selected and my guess would be that they prioritize that since there is the April deadline for those selected to commit to a program. After that’s done, then they send the rejections. Probably with the assumption that most people will move on when they don’t hear anything right away.
  19. I think it’s probably just easier to send them to everyone once they know for sure who they’re admitting. Some of the people who interview will also be rejected, and there’s also the slim chance that someone who didn’t interview will interview later or be waitlisted, so they do them all at once once they’ve made their final decisions.
  20. I can’t speak to the health psych specifically, but developmental’s interview weekend is that same date and I was invited by phone in mid December, so my guess would be they’ve sent out invites. I got my travel arrangements info around the holidays.
  21. Were you waitlisted for admission or for an interview? If it’s for admission, I think that means they’ve already decided they want you should a spot open up.
  22. Is anyone applying straight out of undergrad? Especially to Amherst? I contacted my POI there because it wasn’t clear on the website if you needed a master’s or not and they said that just recently they started accepting people with only a bachelor’s. They expressed interest in working with me but aren’t on the admissions committee and now I’m starting to have doubts. So many of the comm programs I was interested in require a master’s which is so different from how it is in psychology!
  23. I know someone who had a Skype interview (non-clinical) awhile ago and was later informed they wouldn’t be getting an invitation. I don’t know if that occurred when the invitations went out though.
  24. Boo. Just now or like awhile ago?
  25. I finally got another invitation! It’s not for psychology, my interests are about children and media, and it’s for a top Communications phd program. So excited! I wanted to share here since this is where I’ve done most of my posting. No interview first and I didn’t contact my POI before applying, so there’s still hope for those of you in the same boat.
