  1. I accepted an offer to UF's school psychology Phd program. I am moving from Tampa, FL. I traveled to gainesville a few times in the last month to look for places to live. Basically anywhere is close to campus. Like you can drive across town in like 15 or 20 minutes. I was talking to some apartment complexes and they said by the end of May all the affordable/decent apartments are leased out. I decided to lease a place 2 miles from campus. Anything closer to campus is like the same price but with wayyy less space and much older.
  2. I got an email from UF on Jan 4th, I was accepted! I’m so excited. I asked about fellowships and assistantships and they said they’d get back to me. Is that normal?
  3. Wow, traveling that far is complicated. Maybe ask our new grad buddies for some advice. I’d offer to give you a lift, but I’m coming from Tampa.
  4. Yes, I keep waiting for a detailed agenda. I must plan things! LOL. I will wear flats as well. I was thinking of having another outfit to change into for the social too. This will be so fun! I'm debating whether I should dye my hair back to a natural color. It will make me sad but I understand how that doesnt look very professional. Maybe I'll just pull it back so you can only see the black.
  5. I imagine everyone is together. It would be neat to meet you! At least we would have a friend on this nerve racking day. I've been preparing for questions, but I will be fine as long as I don't get too nervous. I can't decide what to wear. I am not sure if I should go extra fancy interview or like business casual. All the articles I've read say don't wear new or fancy shoes because you will be walking a lot.
  6. I got invited to an interview at UF as well! I will be attending the interview Feb 1st. So exciting! Time to prepare!
  7. Worries: I only applied to one school. This is the first time I've applied to grad school. It was very overwhelming and I am not sure I did it right. I had an argument with admission because they kept losing my documents. We went back and forth through email several times to straighten it out. Hey, at least they'll remember my name. ? I spoke to a professor and we were not a match for research. Her profile talked about behavioral challenges and students with disabilities (which is my jam) but she didn't want to talk about any of those. But she said she did want me to meet her teaching assistant. Also, I got tongue tied and said some stupid stuff because I was nervous. Anyway, What if I do get in and get too overwhelmed? My brother said it can't be more overwhelming than teaching elementary school , which is what I'm doing now., because at least I can pee when I need to and I'm already working 10+ hours a day. Hahaha. Low bar. My GPA sucks. My GRE scores are better. My essay is too long and I thought i twas so original and unique to me but now I think it was just generic bullshit. My letters of reccomendation are from a professor, college advisor and mentor, and the school psychologist I work with in my current job. The letters are positive but not spectacular. I just really want to stop thinking about it. Also, I really need funding or I don't see how this will be possible financially. Ugh, I'm am not looking forward to being college poor again. Excitement: Moving to a new city. Peeing when I want to. I finished and submitted, which I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to pull off. I did it.
  8. USF is a great school, I'm sure their program is good. Its just too close to home for me. I need a little distance, but its always an option for a second try. Reading all these forums is making me think I should have started earlier and had a wider net. But, its a good experience no matter the outcome. Good Luck to you as well. Oh! I also found this website in all my anxiety induced searches. http://graduateschool.ufl.edu/prospective-students/phd-program-profiles/ It has some helpful information.
  9. I'm applying to UF as well. I received an email yesterday that said they will be inviting people to interviews in about 3 weeks. I responded to the email quickly. Academic flirting. I am only applying to UF this year. I live in Florida and would get in-state tuition. I didn't like any of the other Florida programs. But seeing so many good programs on here, if I don't get in this year, I will have lots of options to try again next year.
