I think it is positive to see programs waiving the GRE requirement and agree with others that it is a useless, meaningless test and time would be better spent revising for the GRE Psychology test or writing publications/gaining research experience. At the moment there seems to be inconsistency in terms of programs waiving it vs. programs not requiring it altogether. This is slightly irritating and I think programs should decides between requiring the GRE or not requiring it - keeping it optional simply does little as applicants will still feel pressure to take the test and submit scores, given how highly competitive it is generally. If programs want to to help during an already stressful time in life they would be better off removing the requirement completely. I think in late summer or early Fall we will know more about the GRE requirement. That being said if you have already prepared and bought the study packages, theres no harm in taking it because if you don't get accepted this year you might have to take the GRE next year if programs go back to requiring it.

Hey no I was not, I live in the UK and I have been eagerly waiting updates on subject tests. I am hoping they will become available online like the GRE general?

This is a really important message - I'm not yet in my 30s but I think age does crop up a lot as a worry for applications, especially given the pressure to get accepted onto a Ph.D program as soon as you graduate college. I really enjoy reading posts from applicants who have decided to change their career and apply to Psychology. Changing careers is extremely brave and I think it's great that more people are talking about this. Experience is so important and often overlooked. I decided not to apply for this round of applications to allow myself more time to gain additional research experience and think about what specifically I am interested in. How can we be expected to know exactly what area we want to research for the rest of our careers if we have only had limited research experience in one or two labs? I have three years experience doing very different research projects - some of these research questions I was fascinated by and other research areas that I thought I was interested in changed after working in this area. All experience is POSITIVE because it helps you figure out what you want (and don't want) which is equally as important. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks I didn't think it would be an issue as it is normal I guess to work on a project with two people, if anything it is an endorsement for what the main person is writing about you.

I am working as a research assistant and my PI is a Senior Lecturer and Consultant Psychiatrist but the chief investigator of the study is a professor and more well known in the field. However, I have much more contact with my PI than the CI. The CI is also very busy and I'm not sure if he would have time to submit my recommendation letters. I was going to ask if the CI could co sign the recommendation letter but I wasn't sure if this is allowed?

Yes I have seen this, however a lot of people posted about rejections and I haven't received one. It says on my status that my application is still awaiting a decision

I also completed an MRes in the UK! Yes but most places do provide funding even if you are an international applicant because they recognize the diversity and value of having a different perspective in research! I applied to the US because they combine research and clinical which I think is really important - in the UK it is separate if you choose clinical you must complete the 3 year doctorate and if you want to do research you do a 3 year PhD. On paper it sounds great but in reality it is highly competitive and once you gain a place you are over worked, under paid and constantly stressed. To get a place on the clinical doctorate can take years as most applicants now have a PhD on top of a masters and you also must gain experience working as an Assistant Psychologist which is even less pay and even more competitive as up to 1,000 applicants can apply for 1 position and most already have AP experience! Therefore I am taking my chances in America ?
