  1. The private and government sector's are always looking for PhD's and MS's in Human Factors Psychology. If you're looking for strict acceptance rate ratios, i'm your guy. From what I have observed, generally speaking, masters programs have an acceptance rate between 20-40% and doctoral programs between 15-25%. For example, on average a typical HFES accredited Human Factors Psychology doctorate program has roughly 25-30 applicants. So roughly 5-7 applicants would be accepted to this program. User Experience jobs are hot on the market and some programs (i.e., Arizona State) have terminal degrees specifically for User Experience. A PhD in Human Factors is a very good fit for User Experience, and the pay ceiling is much higher. Edit: Here's a list of accredited programs: https://www.hfes.org/resources/educational-and-professional-resources/hfes-graduate-program-accreditation/directory-of-human-factorsergonomics-graduate-programs-in-the-united-states-and-canada
  2. I just sent a very thoughtful email. Handwritten notes are not necessary.
  3. Just got the Surface Pro 6 and am loving it so far.
  4. I'm in the Human Factors field of Psychology so take this with a grain of salt. I used my undergraduate research internship as an opportunity to work in my eventual graduate advisers lab. This research internship probably gave my application the extra boost it needed to be accepted. The research internship gave my application the extra boost because I was able to run my own experiments, create a manuscript, gain valuable programming experience, and socialize with the faculty and students in the graduate program while I was an undergraduate. The success of being accepted into a graduate program you volunteered in before applying probably varies by the field. Bottom line, more than likely, if you volunteer and do an excellent job, it'll help and not hurt your application.
  5. School: Wichita State University Concentration: Human Factors Type: PhD Date of acceptance: 3/8/2019 Notified by: Email from faculty ?

  7. Congratulations!!!!!!!
  8. If you're a fit a POI is willing to overlook that poor undergraduate GPA. Especially with how much you've proved yourself since your undergraduate years.
  9. Man. I relate so hard.
  10. Will be attending the on-campus visit from Feb 28th - Mar 2nd ?
  11. Received an invite for a phone interview! Sure is lonely in this area of Psychology ?
  12. Officially submitted all my materials to Wichita State! Wish me luck
  13. I mostly used Magoosh. I would recommend taking as many practice tests as possible. My scores are: V: 156 - 73rd percentile Q: 155 - 58th percentile AW: 4.5 - 82nd percentile I'm not sure how good you consider those. I could reach 160 on both but my scores are the average for the program I am applying to and I don't want to pay another $205 ?
  14. Continue working in my current research lab, publish my current manuscript, attend the HFES conference in Seattle, and spend more time with my son ? Human factors appears to be less competitive than clinical so I am not about to jump ship on careers due to the prospect of never being accepted into a Ph.D. program.
  15. Hi everyone! I decided to create a topic for human factors applicants since there doesn't seem to be one for our niche. Here are some potential discussions: What schools are you applying to? What are your research interests? Do you plan on going into government, industry, or academia? Do you have any updates from your program or POI? How are you feeling with your application? What are you worried about? What do you have to brag about? How did you pick the programs you're applying to? Are you going to the annual HFES meeting in Seattle? We're outnumbered compared to almost (probably) all psychological fields so lets create a place to exchange helpful information. Personally, I am applying to only the human factors program at Wichita State this cycle. I currently work in one of the research labs at Wichita State so if I do not get accepted I will just continue to gain research experience the next year and publish my manuscript.
  16. I am applying to the human factors program at Wichita State. I currently work in one of the labs at Wichita State so I am hoping that puts me in front. But if I am not accepted I will just find a dozen or so programs for next cycle ? If anyone else that is following this thread is also applying to human factors programs I would love to hear about yourself and what your research interests are ?
