  1. I think I'm going to go through a ton of books, make art, and try to exercise more. Do some fun things!
  2. This is exactly how I feel too. Just submitted applications, still a little excited, but the anticipation is going to make me crazy if I think about it too much. EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
  3. I filled it out, used the same statement for all of the diversity fellowships. I don't expect anything from it most likely but can't hurt to submit it. I think every UC school has the same.
  4. Thanks! I'll wait until new years then and check with her to see if she'd like me to re-send those emails or not. Anyone else applying to UCSD? Have you been sent your login to the portfolio site? I emailed about it around the 22nd and was told two days or so. Have not heard back yet.
  5. When do you guys think it is good to send out reminder emails for letter writers? I've got a few due Jan 15th that are not submitted, but they are all online. I was thinking to wait longer because of the holidays and then email if it's not done around the 7th.
  6. I'm nearly done. Everything is mailed. I'm off tomorrow from work so my plan is to get my final four applications submitted. I already sent out the LOR requests for them. Just have to submit online, pay and I'm done! This is going to be tough to wait for.
  7. I don't have any inside information but I've been wondering the same. Or perhaps it could shift where people are applying as they try to go more for programs that they feel are likely to fund well. Maybe we'll see lesser known state programs receiving more interest.
  8. Since I had a school that needed an official transcript uploaded and I had to make a PDF for that anyways, I've just used the official one for everything. I wish more schools would do it that way, saves you from the cost of all those transcript requests.
  9. The people who read my statement thought it was strong, so I just went with it and changed it for any schools that asked for something specific. Anyone else not get any information for accessing the portfolio site for UCSD yet? I sent them an email today.
  10. Thanks both of you for replying about USF! I definitely do like the sound of the Tampa area and I decided to submit an app there. Just judging from what I have found online, I really agree that their program seems to be strong and suits my work better than U Florida.
  11. I might use it to elaborate on the medium and do more of a physical description, my pieces tend to have multiple parts to them. I would go with whatever you feel like could be explained to the viewer further after looking at your images.
  12. How is everyone doing? Anyone freaking out yet? I feel like I'll be getting there before next month. This all has to be done over the holidays too, it's cruel. Anyone go to open houses? Ucla? Nothing near enough for me to go.
  13. Going down tonight to use a critique room and finish photographing some pieces for my portfolio! Then I guess I'll be going crazy editing images. Seems like the general idea is to start and end your portfolio with the strongest images?
  14. I've been assuming its more statistical, gathering more info to help them see what their applicant pool is going for perhaps. Maybe help them with recruiting and advertising. So far I've skipped filling it out though.
  15. I feel like reccs and exhibits hold about the same weight, unless something is strong enough to stand out against what most people have. Maybe exhibits help more if a school likes to see more time spent out of undergrad? Demain- I did look at csulb, I was a little unsure about their concentrations and how much interdisciplinary work they might allow. Any ideas on that? You can look at my site if you want, but I think it could be a fit
  16. Lovelypainter- Don't worry, I get that feeling of somehow not applying to the right schools and I'm applying to twelve of them. Studiohound- My statement for UCLA was around 600-700 words total, but I did split it up for the two sections.
  17. I'm applying to a lot so I'm trying to space it out and give myself more time. We'll see if that works.
  18. Aughhhh. Submitted my first online application (ucla) and started requesting transcripts. I feel better now that things are getting underway! Have all of my LOR writers lined up finally too.
  19. Thanks! I'll have to look into those two some more.
  20. All of those things need to be covered and add something tailored specifically to why VCU. It seems like mentioning other artists could benefit you if you find some way to show how you see your work fitting in the art world? I'm not sure how you could go about it though. There was one program at least which mentioned for the SOP that you should be able to talk about your work in the scope of contemporary art history.
  21. Didn't see one of these unless I missed it, but share away if you want. I'll go first, looking for any school suggestions- http://www.jldstudio.com My BFA was at VCU for sculpture. I prefer interdisciplinary programs and a chance for some funding. My application list, no real order: 1 USC 2 UCLA 3 UC Berkeley 4 Tyler 5 Rutgers 6 SDSU 7 Uc Davis 8 UCSD 9 UCI 10 UMD 11 UNC 12 NYU
  22. Thank you paintcutter! This is really helpful of you. I'm applying to a lot of those same california schools too. I don't know much about UCR, and Calarts I had assumed would mean no financial aid. I know I've definitely wondered about my work being too object-based for some programs even though it's interdisciplinary work, so I'm glad they touched on that.
  23. Banged out my statement. Finally. I'm sure I'll revise it 50 more times, but I feel much better having a new one down! Hello, new faces! Mid-range... I'm a fan of many of the California state schools. UGA, Maryland, UNC.

    My work

It really is. I loved VCU sculpture. And the people. It is worth being in Richmond for a million times over. I've lived in the Richmond area my whole life so it doesn't bother me at all, but I don't know how you would feel about Richmond if you are set for somewhere like NYC.
