welcome to UVA purgatory with us! thank you for the additional info! at least april 1st isn’t april 15th, I guess, haha. such a weird situation. and yes, fingers crossed for you too! hope some good news from Rutgers comes through for you shortly! -

yes! same boat! weird mix of super happy with my acceptance and a lot of complicated feelings around everything else, especially the sense of choice. glad to at least not be alone in the experience! -

@stressbot3000 interesting! it is weird that there haven’t been any waitlists posted and there usually are - but then again, like you mentioned, we do have intel saying otherwise... maybe we’re just the backup backup waitlist, haha. like their very last choices. i’m feeling pretty negative about it, but i’m a pessimist to a fault so at least we can balance each other out as we wait here in UVA purgatory. -

i like your theories! i’m feeling so pessimistic that i’ve decided they just forgot i existed. -

@stressbot3000 ooh let me know if you hear anything back from the department! the situation just makes no sense to me... if every type of notification has gone out, they know our status - so why no update? -

well, official penn rejection means i almost definitely know where i’m going in the fall! still a few official results pending but none likely, and none a better fit. feeling an odd combo of woe-is-me misery over penn and holy-cow excitement rn. weirdddd day. also @stressbot3000 i’m stil in the same boat with UVA and i’m glad you are too or i’d think i was losing my mind -
How to celebrate good news?
amphilanthus replied to Musmatatus's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
really grateful for this thread! my first notification was good news so i decided to hold off and celebrate that when i had even more good news... and it's been downhill since then. i've been feeling pretty low tbh so this was a nice reminder to get out and celebrate, especially now that i’m pretty sure where i’ll be! thinking about doing something with friends this weekend even if it’s as simple as dinner and drinks. -

hm, i don’t remember what i said about the MA! i thought i asked not to be considered most places, but this weird silence does make me wonder if it’s something to do with that. feels like they sent out some of their rejections and then just kinda shrugged halfway through and went off to do something else. super frustrating! -

same. wish they’d rip the bandage off. -

when a decision letter is ready on applyweb, there will be a new button that says “view your decision letter” under the receipt button. i’ve got one letter up. so you’re looking in the right place! it just seems like schools are very slow to actually upload letters. -

I believe it was @The Wordsworthian who called yesterday and was told they’d sent out all acceptances and waitlists - I think that unfortunately we’re just waiting on very slow rejections it looks like last year rejections were spaced out too. -

someone mentioned that in the past it’s been calls on friday/saturday/sunday. so if there’s nothing this week, we’ve still got a weekend to spend on edge ? -

same situation! no additional insight here, but waiting in solidarity. it seems like it’s clearly a no since they said all acceptances/waitlists went out, which makes it extra frustrating to have heard absolutely nothing. @Anjali.P I think the consensus here is that nothing has officially gone out from rutgers! no one has heard anything else apart from that one stray post - someone could have been alerted unofficially but it doesn’t seem like it was part of a round of notifications. we should be due for news from there soon. fingers crossed! -

yes! was just about to post something like this. super frustrating to watch virginia rejections show up slooowly and wait for one to hit my email/portal. really grateful for all timely notifications. -

thank you for making the call and sharing this info! so helpful to know for sure. agreed - the very little effort it would take for schools to send timely rejections would make such a huge difference for applicants sitting in limbo. and yet... -
Here Comes the Sun/ Waitlist Movements
amphilanthus replied to Warelin's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
ahh haha okay! I’m from the south and fell in love with Chicago during the summer... a very different transition. I’m sure the rent is a huge difference! especially in rogers park, too, the relative affordability here is the only reason it will hopefully work for me to go to school and my partner to stay in our place here. it’s just the best neighborhood; if not for work I’d never go anywhere else in the city tbh. (okay, except the zoo. always the zoo.) the beach up here is amazing in the summer, too many restaurant/bar recommendations for a post, so close to other fun neighborhoods like andersonville... if this is the direction this process takes you, I’ll have you send you allll the recommendations (gotta admit I haven’t been here long enough to offer a definitive ruling on chi-town - although I can’t say I’ve ever heard anyone actually say it...) -

it’s the best! (and the fact that you loved it in december is... extremely impressive, haha.) i’m obviously biased but it’s an exciting piece of news for sure. fingers crossed! -
2019 Acceptances

definitely news i'm glad to hear tbh - nothing worse than the wait at this point! thank you for the info, had no idea it wasn't a long weekend for schools. -
2019 Acceptances
amphilanthus replied to Englishtea1's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
also haven't heard back either way, so assuming bad news. in past years it looks like waitlist and rejections have gone out just a day or two later - hopefully we'll all know soon! (unless the long weekend means an extended limbo ) -

congratulations!!! as someone living practically right by loyola (and dreading moving!), can vouch for it being an AMAZING place to be rooting for the waitlist to move for you! -

very much seconding this! had both rutgers and upenn marked as possibly-today on my calendar and dared to imagine that i might know about all my schools by the end of the day! but no. that would be too easy. why know now when we could wait miserably forever? -

amphilanthus replied to WildeThing's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
pretty skeptical since nothing else has come in - could have been some rogue individual acceptance but not an indicator of anything else, imo. i think we may hear more today or tomorrow based on past years (although all my timing estimates have been off so far! take that with a grain of salt) -
So You've Been Waitlisted, Now What?
amphilanthus replied to bpilgrim89's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
awesome, thank you - needed some outside validation before i could get myself to send the email! went ahead and asked questions in a way that hopefully falls on the side of enthusiastic rather than obnoxious. i know it all comes down to outside factors anyway but feeling like there's something i can do here might be what keeps me sane! -
So You've Been Waitlisted, Now What?
amphilanthus replied to bpilgrim89's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
got my first waitlisted notification today and VERY grateful for this thread and all the advice in it. this question is probably born from overthinking, but... should i ask questions like those mentioned ("how does the committee select students for admission from the waitlist?" and "are waitlisted students able to visit the department?") in an initial affirming-my-interest email, or are those questions more appropriate for a second formal letter of interest like that described above? very curious about both of those questions, but paranoid about overstepping at this delicate-seeming point in the process! -

waitlisted for English & Women’s Studies at Michigan! definitely feeling that weird mix of excitement and disappointment - it was a top choice for me. really pleased to have made it on the waitlist but not optimistic at all that it will move enough. time to settle in and wait...
