  1. It is hard to believe! I'm very worried about what will happen to us in the near future, too.
  2. The current situation caused by COVID-19 worries me, too. At the present, I have a funded offer and two waitlist spots (in fact, I've decline a funded offer and a waitlist spot). It's very probable that I will accept my present offer, but I dont't want to make a snap decision before getting any news from another two programs. (I'm sorry but another two programs are also my dream choices). So, should I sit to wait for possible news? Is it better to solicit the two programs and ask whether they plan to freeze admission off the waitlists? I'm concerned that my acts will cause some terrible consequence for me, though I realize that it may be a long shot that I could be admitted off the waitlist.
  3. Most of results on this website are not Philosophy programs, and I have reason to believe that a Philosophy PhD programs gives a lower stipend than any other PhD program. ?
  4. Congrats! I also applied to UNM, but I've not received any info up to now. I guess that the best possible result for me is a position on the waitlist...? BTW, do you know how many funded offers have been given?
  5. You can email their department to inquire about your status. Besides, you can have a hope to be on a (hidden) waitlist
  6. Thank you, I reported my result just now.
  7. I‘m sorry but I don't know where is the survey page... Could you give me a link?:)
  8. Hi guys, I get an offer from U of Kentucky just today!
  9. ANU has an excellent philosophy program, congrats!
  10. Cool! I've been admitted to SUNY Buffalo (with TA)
  11. Cool! In fact, my department has a professor who got his PhD from Fordham and he told me Fordham is a good place to study continental philosophy. I'll message you in the near future if my friend wants to know more details about studying phenomenology in USA, thanks!
  12. My friend is interested in phenomenology, especially Husserl and Heidegger.
  13. Of course, my friend became a Master student last year and she is always interested in phenomenology.
  14. Thanks Nesta 415, although I suspect NYU is extremely difficult to get into
  15. Hi guys, a few days ago my friend asked me which of programs of philosophy in North America are good at continental philosophy (German and/or French philosophy), so I spent a few time searching relevant data. Finally, I picked out the following programs: UC Riverside; Boston University; Texas A&M; DePaul University; Fordham University; SUNY Stony Brook; Duquesne University; Temple University; McGill; University of Oregon... I know my list must be imcomplete. Can anyone tell me what programs there are left ? Your help will also give me a general picture of continental philosophy in North America. Thanks!
  16. Thank you, Maxhgns! Aside from metaphysics, I'm also interested in phil of sci (e.g.scientific realism vs. anti-realism, dispositions, and natural kinds) and ethics (e.g. Kant, metaethics, animal rights). Your comment reminds me that the individual fit to a program is crucial, but another question grows out of my mind at this time: As you said, many of UWM's metaphysicians take something else as their primary AOS. So if I apply to UWM only for the purpose of doing metaphysics (and other relevant subfields), would UWM think that my application doesn't fit in with their research strengths?
  17. PhD application is grunt work to some degree. After all, It's a bit tiring to browse through so many programs' website and their faculty's publications.
  18. Hi Hector 549, thank you for your clear and helpful comments here! I've chosen some target programs which are good at metaphysics, but I need to consider more potential programs. Maybe it's a good idea to apply to both UWM and UCD!? Also, I'm an international applicant graduated from a university which is not well-known to most of North American programs of philosophy. I heard that public universities, due to their burget limits, are more willing to admit domestic students (rather than international ones) than private universities. Is it true? Does this means that an international applicant is harder to get into philosophy programs held by public universities (e.g. UC Berkeley, UW Madison, and UC Davis)?
  19. Hi guys! My interest in metaphysics of time and material objects drives me to some PhD programs which have strengths in metaphysics. The Philosophical Gourmet Report has placed UC Davis into its rankings of metaphysics, but UW Madison doesn't appear in the same list of rankings. This fact seems to show that UC Davis is better at metaphysics than UW-Madison. However, a few days ago I was surprised to find that in UWM's department of philosophy, there are several faculty members who also do interesting work on metaphysics of material objects and time travel. So now I'm confused about the two programs' strengths in metaphysics... Can anyone tell me which of two programs is better? Besides, which is harder to get into (I mean, the lower chance of admission)?
  20. Today I was told by email that I was waitlisted at SLU.
  21. I solicited UMass and was told that I'm on their waitlist. Unfortunately, my ranking in that list is near the back, so my chance is very low.
  22. Thank you! In fact, my application results in this year have been very terrible up to now, so I often feel nervous. Hope to hear some good news...
