  1. Most likely! It's hard to say. The lab I want to join at JHU seemed very friendly and super-collaborative with many different faculty from the hospitals actively participating in the projects. For my work, clinical collaboration is essential and JHU is great for it. Cannot say too much about the classes, though, as I need to talk more to the students there about it . I also like the essay option at JHU - seems to be slightly less nerve-wracking than a traditional thesis like at UCSD, so won't need to do your Masters for longer than needed. Finally, I just really liked the JHU campus, it's old an charming. UCSD's campus is great but very different in architecture, so I wanted a change. Honestly, I think everything comes down to me just wanting to try to live in a very different part of the US. If, however, getting funded and cost are big deals for you, I might recommend against JHU. From what I heard, RA/TAships do not fully fund you. UCSD wouldn't cover your full costs as an international student either, but would still make it considerably cheaper (plus it's twice as cheap by default).
  2. Hey! I am visiting Baltimore right now and I think I will go here - I want to do BME research and I really like a few labs in JHU. Not saying UCSD isn't great, but I personally just want a change Let me know if you have any questions about UCSD or JHU, I will try to answer them
  3. lol I support you! Considering that I got accepted despite writing John Hopkins 3(!!) times in my sop and personal statement (there were 2 separate essays to submit), the admission committee has accepted this spelling as well.
  4. Thank you! And I absolutely love the Eisenhower's quote!
  5. Yep. I only found out about it after I was googling photos of campus and finally (it wasn't my first time googling it, of course), I noticed that Google corrected my spelling. Somehow my brain managed to ignore that extra "s" this long. It made me feel better about my ignorance when I learned about this Mark Twain's quote: “ The public is sensitive to little things, and they wouldn’t have full confidence in a college that didn’t know how to spell ‘John.’”
  6. I did my undergrad at UCSD and I am considering JHU for Masters (not in robotics, but MechE), so at least I can speak of San Diego as a location (I haven't visited Baltimore yet). San Diego is an awesome city - warm weather, good food, lots to do(especially if you are into watersports). But, it is expensive. If you compare housing prices around UCSD vs around JHU and you will see a big difference. From what I understand, the vibe is also different. San Diego is a much more "chill" city...I once had a math professor who would come into class barefoot while wearing boardshorts. Also, you gotta have a car in San Diego, otherwise you are stuck. From what I understand, you don't really need a car in Baltimore. Anyway, good luck with choosing!
  7. I know that some schools don't allow you to apply if you already have an MA or MS, etc. It's usually written on their website. I think though, that if you already have an MBA and want to do MS in chemistry, it shouldn't matter if you have that other degree. But in general, I feel like you might just have to justify why you need a second Masters - is it a change in careers, or something else?
  8. I am also applying while still finishing my undergrad (half of my friends are doing the same). Unless you are applying to a program that says that you need N+ years of experience, it shouldn't matter. Also, admissions can be random, although your GPA looks great and it seems like your LORs are from "relevant" people, different programs might have different preferences, so it's often recommended to apply to few programs to maximize the chances. Is that the only program you have applied to or have you not heard back from any schools yet? I wouldn't give up if I were you, though. Masters results are usually released slightly later than PhD admission results, so there's still time to get accepted. Have you checked on the results page if anybody has heard anything from the program you've applied to? I got one acceptance today and I am still waiting to hear anything from one more school. It's killing me to wait, but this is life haha. Also, I think @Ternwild gave you some very good advice - there shouldn't be any harm to communicate with the school
  9. I got just done with my classes that day and was walking with my classmates towards the bus stop to get home. We chatted about the status of my grad school apps and I told them that I am still waiting to get rejected from one of my top schools (I misspelled the name of that school in my sop, so I was 100% sure I would get rejected...in my defense, I thought it was spelled that way for at least the last 6 years). When I got to the bus stop, however, I saw an email from that school asking me to log into the portal to see the decision! I prepared myself emotionally to get a rejection, but to my huge surprise, it was an acceptance letter!!!
  10. Got my rejection - now I can stop thinking about "what if I get accepted". There is some relief in that!
  11. Don't lose hope! I am sure you will get accepted somewhere - afterall, you haven't been rejected yet! Good luck Yeah, I applied to BU, UCSD, CU Boulder, UW Seattle, JHU, Michigan, and MIT. I chose based on the cities I want to live in + ME faculty with bio/med device/surgical robotics emphasis. So far I've been accepted to BU and heard really reassuring stuff from UCSD and Boulder. So I am happy that I am going somewhere (yay!) ?
  12. aww I am sorry to hear that! Have you applied to any other schools?.. And thank you! It's been so nice having you here to share our anxiety/worries with. I haven't heard any news from MIT yet, but I almost wish to have been rejected today so that I could stop checking the results page so much
  13. i wonder if they just haven't gotten to my rejection yet, or if I actually have a chance lol
  14. Just one and a half weeks of waiting left, we can do this!
  15. Admissions can be weird - I have no clue how much they weigh GPA vs other things. Fingers crossed that we will soon be spared from all our worries
  16. nothing for me either. The results posts are hilarious! I wish they would not argue about it on the results page, though, but here.
  17. @Irishguy: Last year the big wave came in what will be in about a week time with right now being a small wave of admits.
  18. That's an excellent question, I have absolutely no idea! In the past, it does look like there were 2 waves, but maybe each wave lasts more than just a few hours and there is still a chance that some emails haven't been sent?
  19. I hope you get that "congratulations"-titled email really soon!!! I don't really "need" an admit, as I would probably enjoy more free time at a less rigorous program, but I want to get some news asap to just stop worrying!
  20. Another was posted today for what seems like normal(not Meng) Masters. It's sad to see admits on the results page but nothing in your inbox haha.
  21. No worries! At least now I will have more things to do (I mean other than checking the email). I saw you got admitted to the University of Michigan - did they email you or did you see the notification on their portal(Wolverine access)?
  22. I feel like some people mess up the order at which they publish their Verbal/Quant results. So most likely it's their verbal score, I think. That's a great website, thank you for the link!
  23. It's good to be so open-minded! I guess if the right opportunity comes, PhD is always an option.
