Hi! I had my interview on Friday. The whole interview day went pretty well! I was a part of the first group to be interviewed. The faculty who interviewed me were welcoming and asked me questions I was ready to answer lol.. I was kind of nervous, but I think it went well. I think I did okay on writing sample too. Overall, I walked away from the experience feeling positive :)

What was the interview process like for you and when did you find out about your admission status?

Yay!! Congrats. Do you remember who interviewed you? So, I applied end of January and received my interview invite the next day. I scheduled my interview for February 14th. I have 2 friends from my undergrad who are currently 2nd years so they helped me with the interview process. My interview was in person, and there were 4 other applicants. There was a campus tour, presentation from Dr. Christensen, interview, then writing prompt. I was the first interview of the day and it went smoothly. One of my now professors walked me out and told me "I think you would be a great fit for this program!". I was called March 6th. I know some people waited 1-2 weeks and some 1 month.

I was a wreck waiting for the call. I have no tips for being calm haha

  2. Hey, I'm a student at MWU. Definitely have a good understanding of what Speech and Language are together and separately. Other than that, have good examples of your experiences and show them you can speak to them as a person. My GRE scores and GPA were not strong at all, so you will do well. I had a lot of experience as an RBT and am trilingual which helped.

You will learn so much in this program!

Hey, we applied to 3 of the same schools. Good luck on your interviews! I hope I hear from Pacific University soon. I have a good friend going there now and she is having a great time.

  4. So, I just recieved an email from LIU Brooklyn Welcoming me on board and asking if I would like to be matriculated into Spring 2020 or Fall 2020. It was not an official acceptance. I am not sure if I am accepted or not!! Am I the only one recieving this email?

  5. I applied! My mother is a principal, and her school's SLP just graduated from MGH IHP. She has told me so many amazing things about this program. I am very excited. She informed me that the school is searching for highly Diverse individuals. I am hoping that my experience and highly diverse background helps me out! Anyway, Good luck everyone!

I love it! I honestly can't speak highly enough about the faculty whom I had last semester for my courses. One of the benefits of going to a school where most if not all of the faculty are still in the field is one minute you're discussing theory and the next minute you're hearing stories about how they integrated those aspects into their practices. (Plus some of the stories are often hilarious so they will stick with you!) And the fact that they are experts in their specialties... that's pretty incredible, especially if you end up doing research with them. I was following the work of a professor long before I looked into grad schools, and now I get to have her as my professor- I'm still kind of starstruck, lol. Also I love having a dyad in the clinic for the first year, honestly it was so comforting to me when we first started sessions and now that a new semester is starting, I will be taking lead on the client who she had fall semester and vice versa, so I'll be able to see the progress both clients make throughout the course of the year directly.

So having a huge class of 60 does not make a huge impact on how teachers interact with their students?

That sounds incredible! I am so excited to work with clients. I work as a BI and I am definitely a more hands on person.

WOW, that is such a great experience. Watching your client progress right from the start!

Also, feel free to message me any questions you have about the program! Good luck!!

Thank you so much for your help! I will definitely call tomorrow.

My mother is a principal at an elementary school and her SLP graduated from MGH IHP last year and she has helped me so much. How are you enjoying the program so far? How are the professors?

  8. So, I am a second time applicant. When I began my applications last year, I chose to recycle my previous information because nothing much had changed. I was under the assumption that my GRE scores would be visible to every school I applied to. My transcripts are, so I figured the gre scores would be the same. When I submitted all 7 of my applications I was snooping around the CSDCAS website. I came across the GRE section stating, GRE scores must be sent to CSDCAS using all schools code in order for them to be seen. MY HEART BEGAN TO RACE!!! I submitted all of my applications January 1st, and my MGH application was due that same day. My GRE scores were verified on CSDCAS January 3rd. I sent an email to admissions hoping that they can look past my humiliating oversight. MGH is an amazing program and has a huge focus on DIVERSE students. Being a Hard of Hearing Mexican Jew who speaks 3 languages I feel like I am meant for this program.

Does anyone know if this will ruin my chances of getting accepted?  Has this happened to anyone else? UGH!

Yes that's amazing! I am planning on apply fall2019 so I debating a career change into ABA in the next month or so..hoping to find a company like the one you interviewed for !

I should hear from them tomorrow! I'm crossing my fingers :) thanks guys!

I'm not sure if it's full reimbursement, but I'll accept anything!

  10. Yesterday, I interviewd for an ABA company, Verbal Behavior Associates, that emphasizes in behavior and Language Development. They have many SLP's in their company and are looking to hire more. Due to my education in Speech-Language Pathology, they informed me that they would actually help fund my tuition for a Master's program in my field. This was definitely shocking and amazing to learn. There are some twists into the agreement as in: I'd have to do online school because I need to work minimum 30 hours a week my first year of grad school, and my second year is a bit more flexible because of practicum hours.

I got a call Monday about being accepted! However, I never got any indication from them about being on the waitlist? No mail or email. I was certain I got rejected since there was no follow up until that point.

    Really? That is so strange...

    Congratulations and the acceptance though!

Based on ASHA EdFind, it looks like they took about 27 off the waitlist last year (51 offers of admission for 24 spots)! Also, I know this was their first year on CSDCAS, so its possible that could change things, I would think for the better but its hard to say. Also, I will likely be declining my offer (still waiting to hear from more programs) so hopefully that helps! :)

Thanks for the insight! Good luck on the other programs.

  13. Does anyone have any clue on how many people are admitted from CBU's waitlist?

Today, I emailed CBU's graduate admissions counselor informing her that I am still highly interested in in the program. I also added my recent additions to my resume (30+ observation hours and transcribing for doctoral candidates). I did not ask where I am ranked on the waitlist because my mom thought it was unprofessional.

I saw that someone recieved an admissions call today, and it had me hopeful/sad. Congrats to them though :)
