  1. I’ll be at NYU Wagner for my MPA. Before Admitted Students Day, I thought I was set on UW Evans, but the school visits really changed my mind. NYU also responded to my funding appeal with an offer very comparable to UW’s.
  2. Through their Student Ambassadors page, as well as through their LinkedIn alumni group. Compared to my other MPA schools, the curriculum at Evans is pretty similar. I do like how relatively lockstep the core courses are for the first year, because I think it really helps build a sense of community among the cohort. The electives are numerous, wide-ranging, and interesting, and I think the assignments in the classes I’m interested in are conducive to achieving the learning outcomes. They also have a Board Fellows program where, if you’re interested in nonprofit management, you can serve on the board of a local nonprofit for a year.
  3. Hi! I got accepted to Evans and am interested in nonprofit management. I’m very interested in attending - their faculty, staff, and current students have all raved about the experience, and being a lifelong East Coaster, I’m interested in living on the West Coast for some time. The curriculum sounds intentional and solid, the extracurricular options seem to dovetail nicely with the classroom learning, and the student community sounds very tight-knit, which I’m after. I’m not too concerned about the network since I’m from DC and I already have a network here, but that is something to seriously consider if you want to move/work somewhere you don’t have connections to yet.
  4. If you want to be in DC after grad school and you’ve never lived in DC, you should go to grad school in DC—especially if you liked the school more. It’ll help you establish your network, explore various internships during the school year (when you won’t have as much competition as you will during the summers), and living in DC is cheaper than NYC. I would take that into your financial calculations as well.
  5. Hi there! I'm also an MPA applicant and among your programs, was also admitted to UW Evans and GW Trachtenberg (my others are American SPA, UMD MPP, NYU Wagner, and Harvard GSE in Ed Policy & Management). I've lived in the DC area my whole life and have been working in DC for the past couple years, so I'm ready for something new for grad school, knowing that I can return to DC eventually. I'm leaning towards Evans, partially because they gave me good funding, and mostly because the faculty, staff, and students have been absolutely fantastic throughout the entire process - very engaging, enthusiastic, and helpful, and the student community seems very strong, unlike what I felt at American or GW. However, I'm waiting until after I attend several Admitted Students Days to make my final decision. I'm interested in nonprofit management, but I have heard that UW Evans has a great focus on local government - GW, as you guessed, will tend to focus on federal.
  6. A guide to the terms and conditions of acceptance (including where to send your official transcripts); tuition and fees for 2019-20; a packet on financing your Ed.M. education; and information on IT and health services.
  7. I received my welcome packet in the mail, which said that scholarships would be announced by the end of March.
  8. I agree with went_away - UMD has a great public policy program and it's growing quickly. If you're interested in philanthropy and social innovation, check out their Do Good Institute.
  9. If you want to work in DC, I'd say go to school in DC, especially if you currently don't have any ties or connections there. Going to school there will allow you to intern, attend talks at think tanks and at GW, and network at various events. Plus GW is cheaper!
  10. Yep, I'm in the same boat as you!
  11. I was accepted! I’m coming from DC and I’m interested in nonprofit management. I’ll likely attend - they gave me funding while NYU Wagner did not, and I’d much rather live in Seattle than in Manhattan.
  12. NYU Wagner funding information has been posted.
  13. NYU Wagner was released this morning!
  14. Admitted to the MPA program! I still haven’t received an email yet; I just happened to log into my portal last night and saw that my decision was ready. Funding to be specified at a later date in another email.
  15. I happened to log into my GW Portal last night, and my admissions letter was available (dated 2/28)! Admitted to Trachtenberg MPA with merit funding; amount to be specified via email at a later date.

@The Wordsworthian The Public Administration Master's Program in the Evans School! I'll be out in Seattle in April for their Admitted Students Day.

@The Wordsworthian I got accepted to UW as well! Congratulations! This may be a bit of the blind leading the blind as I am from the East Coast as well, but I spoke to a current student and someone in the admissions office and both said that UW students tend to use Craigslist for housing.
  18. They sent out more decisions Friday (2/22) evening. I was admitted with funding!
