  1. Crossing my fingers for you too! Hope to join you in DC.
  2. It was from the assoc. director of MASIA admissions, but really late in the day – they might be rolling them out slowly, so keep your eyes out for tomorrow! Good luck ???
  3. Updating, just waiting on SAIS now. Really torn on my options – probably gonna be a decision between Columbia SIPA’s MIA, Columbia’s M.A. Asian Studies, and Georgetown’s M.A. Asian Studies. Something to think about until April 15th!
  4. Just got the acceptance email!
  5. Made it in somehow! No mention of funding, what about everyone else?
  6. Nice! I have a feeling the cohort will be predominantly China-focused. And MARSEA is a perfect choice if you’re looking to stay in NYC!
  7. So hard to turn down! I’m interested in China, specifically US-China foreign policy. Still trying to figure out how to bridge study at Columbia to a job down in DC. How about you?
  8. Hi, did anyone else here get into Columbia’s MARSEA? With some generous funding, it’s currently my top choice.
  9. I wasn’t aware MSFS was so reluctant to give scholarship aid. I suppose it makes sense if you’re considered the top program in the field. How can you even begin to negotiate funding (even if you have other offers to use as leverage)?
  10. Thank you! Like I said in the results thread, I’m not surprised, so that softens the blow. Good luck to you - try not to glue your eyes to your email all weekend though!
  11. It was a generic email directly from an admission’s officer. I believe my friend got the email as well! When the MSFS officer said to look out for the official letter by the week of the 18th, I would assume the portal should change when that letter is ready.
  12. Hi all, MSFS results seem to be trickling out! I didn’t make it unfortunately, but I have a friend who did get in, so it’s not as if the notifications are all negative. My notification was sent via email from an admissions officer. Not sure why they didn’t update the portal for a negative result, but oh well. Good luck to everyone here!
  13. Hi all! Just updating. Got an email from an MSFS admissions officer this morning. I unfortunately didn’t get into the program, but I’m not surprised at all - I’m only a year out of undergrad and don’t have a lot of experience in the field. Hope some of you people got in! If so, congrats! At the moment, I’m likely to go with Columbia’s Asian Studies program, as it is fully-funded. EDIT: I’m not seeing any other updates on the front page. Has anyone else heard from the program, regardless of the result? They may be sending out rejections on a rolling basis ? Admissions said to expect an official letter by the week of the 18th, by the way.
  14. Yeah, I applied to both MASIA and MSFS (a huge reach) so I was hoping to get both results today. Oh well. Spring break could have been the culprit! Oh wow, your work sounds fascinating! I don’t have much experience in the field myself, only a year out of undergrad and have been working in the legal sector. I definitely don’t want to confine myself to just China in MASIA – affairs surrounding the Korean Peninsula are absolutely relevant in int’l politics! MARSEA does seem like a great program, but I think MASIA has the advantage of being a little more professionally-oriented, especially for people like myself looking to work in DC. MARSEA is quite heavy on the academics and less so on internships during the semester. I’ve heard MASIA is a little more balanced in this respect. I was actually told all of this by a MARSEA alum, to answer your last question. He spoke very highly of both programs, but they definitely have their distinctions. One last noticeable difference is cohort size. MARSEA is something like 10-12 students versus MASIA, which I believe is slightly larger. I hope we can both make it to Georgetown! Best of luck.
  15. Hi there! I also applied to MASIA. It’s definitely among my top choices. My area of focus is China - if I had to guess, judging by your profile picture, is your speciality Korea? ? I got into Columbia’s MARSEA program, which I will likely take if I don’t get into MASIA. Funding is an issue as well - MARSEA has a very generous offer whereas I don’t expect the same from Georgetown. I got into GWU’s Asian Studies program as well, but I am likely to decline. How about you? I was a little disappointed we didn’t hear from MASIA today. I was sort of expecting it!
  16. I applied to two programs at Columbia - one in the GSAS and another in SIPA. For what it’s worth, I heard from the GSAS today! Hopefully the same can be said for SIPA.
  17. Thank you for the advice! I definitely have zero ties to DC, considering that I went to school in Massachusetts. From a career-building standpoint, GW may be the better choice.
  18. Just updating my original post (I’ve never been on a forum that prevents editing posts after a period of time). Frankly shocked I got into MALD with less than a year of post-grad experience in a barely-relevant industry. I’ll take what I can get though! Out of my acceptances, I’m wavering between GWU’s International Affairs and Tufts’ MALD. GWU is cheaper and has the benefit of being in DC (which, I should say is more expensive to live in), whereas Tufts might have more “prestige” (but is also far away from DC, where I hope to work after school). Anyone have initial thoughts?
  19. Just got the acceptance letter for regular decision!
  20. No problem! I’m applying to SAIS as well so it’s good to know regardless. ☺️
  21. Thank you for the info! A friend of a friend had asked MSFS directly about decisions and apparently they told him that they are trying to get them out by this Friday. We’ll see if this is the case in due time.
  22. I’m waiting on MIA. I have a feeling this Friday is the day, but that may just be wishful thinking. I don’t think I’ll get in, so I’m not sure why I’m even invested in the decision.
  23. Is it safe to say schools like SIPA, MSFS, and Tufts’ Fletcher are likely to send results on a Friday? I have a feeling those schools will be announcing results this week.
  24. Congrats on SAIS! I applied to their MA program, but won’t hear from them for another two weeks. Wow, I’m surprised they’re sending out fellowship info so late. I’ll keep my eye out, thanks!
