No clue where would be the best state to work, i'm in CA if you have any questions and went to school in Texas...

I just wanted to add that although ASHA gives you your certificate of clearance after you graduate and complete your CF, it is your state license and your state license only that allows you to legally practice in the United States.  I would check with whatever states you are considering and see whether they have some procedures in place for individuals prepared out of the country.

ASHA has zero authority or pull within individual states when it comes to state licensing.  I'm sure it would be easy to figure out but you'd probably want to figure out what states you're looking at first.  Good luck it sounds like it will be a fun graduate school experience!  Could be a super easy process but they'll definitely be some kind of extra step(s).

What was the process like of getting your state license in California after completing school in Texas? Did you have to take the CBEST and get a teacher's credential?

  2. Just wanted to let you guys know that, although it is not reflected on their website, tuition at this time is now about 64k. Hopefully they update it soon to show this change because tuition prices are such an important factor in student decisions.

@CaidanFireI did want to ask, what are some cons you have seen about the program? I feel like I have only heard positive things. I know it's a new program and it's still evolving. Also have you completed an externship yet? How has it been? I have heard that they require a pediatric one, school one and hospital one. Do you get to decide the order on that?

As long as you have a decent credit history, you can get GradPlus loans through FAFSA. There aren't any extra steps you need to take to apply for it and it covers the whole cost of tuition and living expenses if it's more than the Stafford loans. The interest rate is higher than the Stafford loans, but I think (?) it's still better than private loans.

I didn't know about this. After looking into it, yes it is a little higher (7%ish). Thanks for letting me know!

    Congratulations on your acceptance!!!!

Thank you! Hope you hear from them soon.

Is the cost for this program super high? I was told it was around 45k which is much cheaper compared to other online programs. But now I'm starting to think that was the cost of the on campus program and not the distance program.

The tuition is 55k as another poster stated. I don't believe USAHS has an on campus program, just this hybrid one.

Congratulations!!! I am currently in USA grad program. Which campus was your acceptance for?

Thank you! I got accepted into the Austin campus.

I did have a question regarding tuition. Do you know if this school ever gives scholarships or assistance? I was told by them that FASFA can only cover a portion of it. I was fortunate enough to get my BA without taking out any loans due to an academic scholarship andI expected to be in some debt after grad school, but I don't really want to take out private loans. I actually got accepted elsewhere with a financial package. The cost of this school is the only thing holding me back from taking the spot. Everything else I have heard and experienced regarding this program has been stellar.

What was the interview like I would

    love tips!

It wasn't too bad and they really make you feel comfortable. I did the online interview so I am not sure if it's different, but it started with an orientation and then we were separated to groups. I was in a group with a few other students. The questions were about ourselves, how we were as students, professionalism and clinical questions. There were a couple situational questions as well. We had a time limit of 45 minutes I believe so we didn't get through all the questions.

I just recieved an acceptance email today!

That sort of makes me feel like they have made all their decisions......

I ended up having my interview earlier than anticipated (this month) because I chose to do it online. During the interview they definitely made it seem like there were still spots open for the Austin campus and they have not yet started to fill the Dallas campus if that helps any.

OK. I see... that makes sense. I was told 5 weeks ago when I talked to the admissions advisor to give them 3-5 weeks for a decision. I haven't heard anything since then.....I so desperately want a chance to interview!!!!

If I get an interview, I would definitely go in person but I'm only one flight away from Austin or Dallas. When is your interview?

Congrats on getting an interview! I would go in person, but I’m not too far away.

When did you submit your application? And when did they offer you an interview? Just wondering as I’m anxiously waiting to hear back from them!

My application wasn't passed on to the admission committee until April 2nd. I actually still have a part of my application to turn in. My interview isn't until June so they are probably still inviting people this week. Hope you guys hear from them soon!

What class did they not accept from your other school? It sounds like if you had an interview they were already really interested in you!

I don't think the Dallas campus was an option initially. I figured because I am in TX they asked me to switch my preference. I'm curious if they offered it to everyone who applied......?

I also was given the option for Dallas campus but am not from Texas. I was told in the phone call in March that they very recently were granted approval to open Dallas so I believe if pp was given an interview in October that may be why they weren't given a Dallas consideration.

Did anyone else get an invitation to interview this week? Debating if I should go in person..

No, I haven't applied but I do plan on applying for the Winter quarter. I hope you get in! I'll make sure to remember to login exactly at midnight. Do you have a lead on any supervisor placements? How long do you have to wait before you find out if you got into the SLPA program?

I was able to find a supervisor placement just by emailing private practices in the area or checking on their website there are some that say they accept interns! The private practice that allowed me to intern there already had a contract in place with LLU and I don't even live in socal.

  10. I did not know that! I applied last semester and didn't get in. Of course there is only 35 spots and it's one of the few that offer the course in California for cmsd bachelor students. It makes sense that they do it in the order it's recieved because they didn't ask for resumes or transcripts. I applied very early this time around for summer, but because I got into masters programs I don't think I will be attending either way.

Wow, that's wild! Did you have their acceptance of deferment from them in writing?

It was actually through phone call,  however I did recieve information through voicemail. I did not want to argue for my spot at a place that no longer wanted me though. It also turned me off from the school. Although my applications were limited this year due to counting on this deferment I still got in to 2/3 schools I applied to so it turned out okay.

  12. It sounds like we all chose for financial reasons! I chose Texas A & M Kingsville because it would be the cheapest acceptance. I also really like that the final two semesters can be completed online with externships. My second choice was University of St. Augustine but I have yet to hear back from them. They said they will let me know in another week. If I get in, I dont know which I will choose.

Yes, I saw that as well. My issue is with how they went about everything. I’m trying not to sound petty so I won’t go into detail but I think they could’ve been more organized and structured with one set deadline as well as actually notifying applicants of a waitlist status. I’m sure many other schools do it too but for those of us waiting it’s frustrating.

Was it them extending the deadline at TAMUK that upset you or something else as well? I am strongly considering this school and was actually the person that just got accepted last week. (I am probably in the minority that is grateful for the extension, of course because it helped me as I was only able to start up applications in March.) I thought it was semi-standard for some schools to not give a second wave of acceptances until after April 15th. As far as waitlist/rejections go, I think there may be concerns with the school about not being sure how many people to put on the waitlist. If you look back in the results page, it looks like several times people were rejected and then later received a call with an acceptance.

I was also recently contacted by an application advisor and she asked if I wanted to postpone my application bc my GRE  scores were right under their recommended combined score of 290 (187). Also, if I would consider putting their new campus Dallas as my top choice. She said they have a lot of slots still. I asked if it helped my chances of getting accepted and she said no but I thought it couldn't hurt and agreed. She said to give them 3-5 weeks for a decision. Fingers crossed!!!!!

Is the Dallas campus also under candidacy accreditation?

I am very pleased with the program. Everyone is very supportive and there is a close knit feel with the entire staff. The professors have been sourced out from very prestigious positions and they really know their stuff!! I feel very fortunate to have been accepted here.

They do require a weekend residency attendance during each semester (so 5 visits) but they are sooo worth it! We learn so much and get to know each other very well and it really makes a BIG difference in an online program. Even though it is an additional cost and inconvenient, most everyone in my cohort looks forward to the residency weekends. Because they also have PT and OT cohorts, we get to interact with them as well to facilitate interdisciplinary collaborations.

They also have an actual lab to supplement neuro-anatomy during one of the residence weekends. This is rarely offered even with campus programs.

There have been a few hiccups (it is a brand new program afterall) but they were swiftly and efficiently addressed.

They have 5 years to get full ASHA accreditation but have solid plans to complete it within 3 years.

If anyone is considering applying, I would strongly encourage you to do so. They TRULY look at the whole package.

Also - call and talk to an admissions counselor! They are very helpful, especially Heather. They will clear up any confusion you might have. If they dont answer, be sure to leave a message. They WILL call you back. You can also email them

Thanks for responding and that's great to hear! It makes me more excited about the prospect of attending. Do you know how the interviews work? Do they interview only a handful of students at a time because some interviews have happened already although the deadline hasn't passed. I heard that the cohort size is about 15.

Also how do externships and clinicals usually work in this online format? Is it something you set up or the school? What is the workload like and are courses live streamed?

Thanks again for taking the time to answer some questions!

Oh.. I see. that's disappointing.....I was initially going to turn in my application before they extended the deadline but i took the opportunity to work on my essay longer. :( Hopefully everyone gets a fair shot at a spot because from what i hear if you get an interview it's a pretty strong indicator that you will be accepted.

That's what I have heard too. Hoping that is not the case.  Did you recieve anything from them stating that they recieved your application? I have yet to recieve any emails from them.

Hello.  So I am confused, on CSDCAS it says that we have until April 1st to submit the application? Can we still submit an application? Also I have no idea how to find the other application on their website

You can still submit an application but they have done some interviews already. With that, I'm not sure if our odds are as strong. There is a link to the supplemental application in the program materials section on CSDCAS.
