  1. I am hoping to save up to $2000 for my initial expenses and it will still depend on whether I am accepted for an on-campus apartment or not. *sigh*
  2. They didn't require any specific detail at all. I simply answered that I applied for a 2-bedroom on-campus apartment and that I am currently waitlisted. I added that I'll be waiting for the advice of the Office of International Srtudents regarding my situation.
  3. I am wondering how much money I should bring with me when I go to the US. I know that the cost of living varies across states and among cities but I would like to have an idea on how much you guys are planning to bring with you that will help you survive before the first paycheck arrives.
  4. I said that I wish to pursue graduate studies in the US, specifically a PhD degree in Molecular Biosciences. And that's it, no follow-up questions like, "Why in the US and not here in your home country?" or anything about my research interest. Just relax. I'm sure everything will be alright.
  5. So I went to the US Embassy this morning and had my interview. It only took approximately 3 minutes; the waiting period (security and fingerprinting) took longer (2 hrs, I believe). The consul asked why I would go the United States, what program, source of funding and if I already made housing arrangements. That's it and she said "Okay, go to Washington". Best of luck for the rest of the international students!
  6. Approved. :)

  7. It's nice to know that you were able to get an answer from them. Good luck on your applications.
  8. I have been addicted to Google maps during the application season. I used to check the location of my target universities and some of the apartments there. My obssession faltered somehow during the waiting period but it is starting to creep back.

    Laptops

Hello everyone! I am thinking of buying a netbook before leaving for the US. I plan to initially get a netbook here in my home country and buy a more powerful laptop after a couple of months in the US. What brand/model/specs would you suggest for the netbook? Thanks in advance!
  10. F-1 Visa interview tomorrow. *wishmeluck*

  11. Sure. I'll post whatever was asked during the interview.
  12. It really depends on the university, specifically the admissions committee. Some may consider the highest score while others will tend to look if there is a trend or check how much you improved in a particular section. If you are still in doubt and it really is bugging you, it is best to ask the admissions committee of the program you are interested in applying to.
  13. I'll be having my F-1 interview this Friday. I hope everything would go smoothly. Good luck to all of us!
