Aww thank you! I got offered NSERC the other day!!! I really hope you get SSHRC at the university you want too! I'm rooting for you! For anyone curious, I was ranked 3rd on the alternate list at U of A. So the list did move! I bet it will continue to in the next couple of weeks! Good luck everyone!

Just out of curiosity, was this for NSERC, SSHRC, or CIHR? I got alternate for NSERC at UAlberta and I got a message from the gsms portal that I got ranked #3. I am DYING HERE!!

U of A announced today that the fall semester will be mostly delivered remotely/online, with exceptions to some labs and clinical instruction (https://www.ualberta.ca/covid-19/updates/05/2020-05-14-update-on-fall-2020-term.html). I assume this means that SLP classes will be online for us starting in the fall, since our first semester is completely course-based. I was looking forward to meeting everyone in September, but we will all get to see each other eventually! I hope we will still get to work together and get to know each other through all the online alternatives these days!

We had recorded lectures that we had to watch, but I don't remember there being readings (if there were, I clearly did not do them haha!). Everything was at our own pace, we even did the quizzes whenever we felt like it, as long as you finished them by the deadline. Assignments had due dates as well. Everything was flexible enough that if I had one week where I was too busy to get everything done, I was able to work ahead of the suggested schedule beforehand if I wanted to. The only thing that was scheduled was the midterm and the final, and you get like a 2-day window to write it whenever works best for you. Bear in mind you should budget a decent amount of time for the lecture videos, they can be long. Hope this all helps!

Hey! I took the exact same course in the fall semester online! If I remember correctly, I also didn't get any news until like a day or 2 before class started, so I wouldn't worry! It's through eclass, and the prof should correspond to you through your UofA email. It's quite straightforward, we had 8 or 10 quizzes total, I think 3 assignments, a midterm and a final. Good luck!

I didn't actually reply to the email on Monday or have to update transcripts. But that first letter is pretty solid if you ask me, I'm sure the FGSR will be sending out another wave of official offers very soon. And congratulations to you too! Cheers

Hey guys! I got an email today from the U of A portal (about 3pm mountain time) and I got the official acceptance letter and now have the option to accept or decline the offer. Is this the same for everyone else? Hopefully this now means that more spots will open up for anyone on the waitlist once people start declining offers! Good luck to everyone! Cheers

Oh, yeah I can see that now. Cause the wording was "check to see if you received a prompt, if so then..." Thanks for clarifying that! Cheers

I got it this morning around 11am (mountain time), but didn't check my email till like an hour ago. And thank you so much!!

I just checked my email and I got accepted!!! I agree, it's slowly hitting me and I'm in shock. I also got asked to update some transcript and to check the portal to see if I can do that. My portal still says pre-screeing and that my application status is pending still. Congratulations to everyone who got in!!! I can't wait to meet all of you this fall! And to everyone else, there's still hope! Cheers

@SpeechLP2020 and @EagerSpeechie2019 thanks so much for your replies! I wasn't sure how that worked so it's a relief to know that if I do get waitlisted I'll know right away. My guess is that some people do just apply for the program without actually meeting the admissions criteria, and they know it but figured may as well try anyways? Holy! That's a long time to wait to get a formal letter. Thanks for the info, and I've got my fingers crossed for you this round! Also, for everyone here going crazy like I am waiting, congratulations on all your hard work in these applications! While we don't have any control over what might happen in the future, know that you've really done the best that you were able to. My personal best included okay grades, many meltdowns, sending everything in last minute, and nothing close to the "perfect" that I wanted it to be. But it was honestly the best that I could manage and I'm proud of accomplishing it! You should all give yourself a pat on the back for doing the same! Best of luck to everyone Cheers

Hey! I'm curious if you received a notification that you were waitlisted and when you found that out? Do they send out letters to everyone on the waitlist as soon as the quota is filled? I applied to U of A for the first time, but to be honest I have a feeling I'll be waitlisted too. I'm going a little crazy having to wait and not being able to plan out if I have to move to Edmonton or not! When I attended the admissions session at U of A's oasis conference this question was answered! Vicki said that typically there are 170 applicants each year. Someone also asked how many of those applications were serious. She seemed kinda hesitant to answer that so her answer might just be her own estimate, but she said about 90. Cheers
-
@Slpeechie Thank you for your reply!! When I read it on the website it just seems kind of ambiguous, but it's a relief to know that you've done it and it works. My guess would be to make a comment in the notes section of the application, where you upload all your documentation? Or perhaps they prefer a different way? I'm wondering about that too. Cheers

Hey guys! For those who are applying to U of A, I got a question for you! I just finished my last 2 pre-req courses in December (through U of A, and I graduated from another university last year), but my prof JUST changed the grade on Monday. I requested new transcripts immediately, but I really feel like I need to submit my application NOW to give my references enough time. If my transcripts don't make it by tomorrow, will I be able to upload it after I submit my application? I made sure to put my degree status as "incomplete" for U of A, but for the other university I listed it as "completed". The panic is so real right now. Cheers!

Hey @whalezie! I haven't taken that course yet either. I actually went to the U of A's oasis conference last month where they had a panel about the application process, and that question got asked. Vicki mentioned that the Indigenous course isn't required as part of the application package, it's only required before starting the program. Good luck to you on your applications! Does anyone know if McGill has a list of specific prereq courses (that has course names and numbers) that are accepted from the different universities across Canada? And do they look at the GPA of your entire undergrad or just the subGPA? Cheers!
