  3. Has anyone heard from USUHS, military or civilian?
  4. I completely agree- TOTALLY normal. I actually know more people who got in on their second or third round (for clinical) than their first. It's ultra competitive and sometimes it makes sense, but sometimes it doesn't. You may be the MOST qualified person on paper, but in real life, someone else clicks more with the POI (despite being less "qualified") or you may be less "qualified" but you work in a lab where you've been able to get to know your POI and therefore are at an advantage. I really hope you get in, but it's also important to not take it too personally and remember there are thousands of amazing qualified applicants trying to get into programs as well. I think you just try to keep your head up, and if you don't get in- seek feedback and use it as a motivator to get in next time.
  5. Is the social immediately following the interview? Then you just wear the same thing. If there's time in between, I think you should feel free the wear what you wore to your interview, or something more business casual (I'd avoid jeans). And unrelate but re: suits- Brooks Brothers is having a massive sale rn. Yes, it's expensive, but if you're looking to invest in a nice suit, they have some great deals.
  6. Hey! I didn't apply to Clark so I can't answer your question, but I pm'd you!
  7. Even though it's still early in the day, according to CUDCP, today is the deadline for Uniformed Services University to send out interview invites. I haven't seen any posts, has anyone heard anything? TIA!

  9. Honestly, I’d go with the lab. You’ll make money, you don’t need the masters to get accepted into a phd program, and you will determine a more specific research focus through your work. But that’s just my opinion! You should go with whatever you feel is the best fit for you
  10. I'm not a current student (but would assume that would be TOTALLY fine), but mostly I just want to reply bc you have seriously crushed it with interviews!!!! 9 so far!!!! That's amazing, congrats.
  11. I called admissions, as they originally told me offers will go out last/ this week. They said offers will go out by the end of the month. Hope that helps!
  12. Can the catholic posters pretty please pm me your pi’s? Trying to determine if I need to accept defeat. Much appreciated.
  13. For those wondering, just spoke to admissions at American and was informed "all invitations will go out by the end of the month".
  14. I think if you like your current position, it could be. But I would really suggest trying to get feedback from any rejections as you may be surprised at the level of detail and usefulness. BU has an incredible anxiety lab- so that may be a great place to look. I know less about Boston's resources on aging/dementia- but I do know between BU and Children's, you should be able to get a great position with their research teams based on your experience and track record.
  15. Definitely don't count yourself out yet- UT Austin doesn't send out invites until Feb 1 according to CUDCP and University of Denver is 1/20. I didn't see the others listed, so unsure of their dates... but I would just keep checking results or reach out to the program and ask for a timeline. It's a super competitive process and there are so many wild cards. It's easy to get discouraged, but you still have a ways to go before you should assume the worst. Which, speaking from experience, isn't actually the worst. Let's say you don't get in anywhere, after the season is over, reach out to your top programs and ask for feedback on your application. Some won't respond, some will. Then go with that. I do think working in a relevant lab is key, especially if you can get into one affiliated with a program you're interested in, or that is highly regarded in your target field. You will meet people, make a name for yourself, and for connections. So many people have to go through several cycles- it's an unfortunate truth. BUT! Really don't count yourself out just yet!!! Best of luck!
  16. Can the 1/14 poster who got an interview at catholic please pm me your POIs initials? Congratulations!!

  18. In my experience, pre-interview happy hours are more casual, as the previous posters mentioned. The ones I attended were run by grad students and an opportunity to learn about student life, what it's like to work with your POI, quality of life, atmosphere, the location, etc. DEFINITELY do NOT get drunk. Otherwise, I would recommend just trying to be relaxed, mingle, and use it as a learning experience. Yes, the program is interviewing you, but you're also interviewing them. It's a good opportunity to try to get a feel for the place and if you'd be happy there for the next hundred years. In terms of apparel, they are not as formal. I wouldn't wear jeans, unless they were nice jeans with a blazer and nice top- generally I'd say non-jean pants and a nice shirt/ dress/ skirt and top. I wore a sweater and a skirt last year and felt like that was appropriate. I would err on the side of conservative just because it's less risky. For post-interview happy hours, you generally wear what you wore to the interview, unless there's time in between, in which case I'd say same recommendations as for the pre-interview happy hour. Generally post has faculty members and is a good time for you to either further connect with your POI, or meet other faculty that you didn't interview with- the more facetime you have, the better. It's more casual than the interview, and gives you a bit of a chance to show your personality and ability to go with the flow/ connect with others/ see how you'd fit in at the program. But again, you're interviewing them as well. I found I was very nervous going into both, but they were actually helpful and more laid back than I anticipated. They chose to interview you for a reason, you applied to the program for a reason, this is your opportunity (and theirs) to see if it's a good fit! Good luck!!
  19. Per CUDCP, they should be sending out invites on Wednesday of this week. Good luck! And SLU is supposed to be 1/24 according to CUDCP's site as well.
  20. Could the catholic poster pm me their poi’s initials? Thanks so much and congrats!!!
  21. Could the catholic poster pm me their poi’s initials please? Congrats and much appreciated
  22. That's really hard. I mean, I think I would find a way to deal (I love the lab and the work I'm doing), but my PI reached out to me and strongly encouraged me to apply for the job after I got rejected from the school last year. So I think it would just be super confusing as well. I was feeling relatively calm and confident, and then I remembered I had no guarantees and that I actually have no clue what is going to happen, so I have been kind of silently freaking out lately.
  23. I'm lazy and don't feel like reading through this whole thread, so I apologize if this is a repeat post (I know it's been posted elsewhere)... but I think this timeline may be helpful to some of you!! It comes from the DCTs of the schools. https://teamup.com/ks952632ef38687f3e
  24. Haha this made me lol. And it's a good way to think about it. Hopefully I can find the resilience and interpersonal skills buried somewhere. All my skills are going towards acting calm. Good luck with your invites!!
  25. I work for the PI at my top choice school. I just had a meeting with him and another tomorrow. It is taking ALLLLLL my self control to not be like JUST TELL ME NOW! According to CUDCP the school will send out invitations this week. So I don't know why he doesn't just give me the inside scoop (I do actually know why, but I'm like come on, I wrote your NIH grant proposal). It is agony seeing him almost every day and just smiling and being like "Hi Dr. XYZ! Hope you're having a SUPER day!" FML. I think I'll likely just crack and demand answer. Probably the surest way into the program. ? Also, real talk, I'm not quite sure how I'll handle working here if I don't get an interview ?
