  1. So I received an email from Janet saying I'm on the 4th quadrant of the waitlist. Safe to say I am feeling really down and discouraged as this is my 2nd time applying. I did everything I could in the last year considering the pandemic to boost my application (got research experience, maintained online volunteer hours working with people with Aphasia, and redid a few courses to bring my gpa up by 0.3), and it still wasn't enough I am thinking about my application next year and wanted to see if anyone who got in this year (multiple time applicant or first time applicant) had any advice for anyone applying again. I am stuck between going back to school again full-time or just taking a few courses and working/volunteering more in S-LP related positions. I feel so lost and stuck - especially with this pandemic and how its so hard to physically balance a bunch of things.... let alone finding volunteer positions at all. Not to mention how mentally draining this whole process is combined with covid anxiety.
  2. Hi all! CONGRATS to everyone on their acceptances, I'm sure all your hard work has payed off!! And for those of us who got rejections and waitlists.. PLEASE keep your head up. This was my 2nd time applying and I only have received waitlists this year. Last year I only received rejections, and it was really discouraging, but working extra hard this year proved how much I really wanted to have a career in S-LP. The fact that were in a pandemic and how so many schools wanted different things compared to previous years may have set quite a few of us back. But please don't give up. I will say this - I think that although some schools weigh volunteer or grades more.. the best thing you can do if you were rejected is BRING YOUR MARKS UP. I say this because I did all that I could this time to increase my volunteer/research work this round and it was barely considered (if at all)... And who knows what the application requirements will be for next year but high grades are always a requirement. Also, if you're open to the U.S, try applying there next year. There are sooo many more options so you're more likely to get offers there (apply to safety net schools too). I have been waitlisted at Western this year though so if anyone is giving up their waitlist/acceptance position there please let us know!! I think it will help gauge the chances of us on the waitlist . Or if you can post in the link below!!
  3. First off, I wanna say And CONGRATS on everyone who got accepted! This has been a really nerve-racking point for everyone. So I received rejection emails from all the ontario schools I applied to. Feeling pretty discouraged, upset and demotivated... But I am not going to give up and will apply again next year. Speech is really my passion. Can anyone who has received rejection in the past years and or got accepted finally send me their stats or any advice on what they did to improve their applications? Half of my high mark prerequisites weren't completed by January so I'm guessing that may have affected my application? Any advice would be helpful!
  4. hii! Yeah that's why I started working under an SLP this summer who will be providing me with a reference gladly. I'm just worried the number of hours won't impress the schools since I know other applicants have sooo many more committed hours. Good luck to you too
  5. Hi everyone! Happy to see a Canadian thread for this year, with some of us in the same boat! I'm applying for SLP programs this year and I have EXTREME anxiety over not getting in. My background is so different than most other applicants and I feel like I have much less of a shot of getting in, since I only decided I wanted to get into SLP after I finished my undergrad. I have a degree in Psychology and also a Bachelor of Education (have a teaching degree). I am taking a few courses this year to complete my prerequisties that I am missing. I have several volunteer/teaching experiences working with children with developmental delays and very low socioeconomic status, including international english teaching experience in underprivileged communities. I've only recently began volunteering with an SLP working with adults with aphasia, but worried I won't have a high number of hours. My SubGpa I'm not too worried about, just that my background won't cut it to the programs even though all my experiences and degrees have led me to become so interested and passionate about speech pathology! Anyone know how much they weigh direct SLP experience over relevant volunteer work? I'm applying to all Ontario grad programs.
