  1. seconding alot on this thread. I scored floor level math.. and thats sometimes typical of people in slp programs.. "speech path math" so its called. I think studying strategies and process of elimination are the way to go. This test does not measure how well you can actually do math. it measures your analytical skills. I still basically bombed it .. however my verbal was higher and so was writing. Call the school and ask if they have a GRE cutoff.
  2. @futurespeechpath1 That's a great amount of schools to choose from! Excited to hear the results!
  3. @datu72 Thank you for the good wishes! I'm excited for you!
  4. @alyssafrancis This is a good thing. They cannot review until everything is in... and they would not waste time unless they knew you should be looked at! (I've worked for admissions @ a university)
  5. @slpwholovescoffee You're so sweet!!! Thank you!!!! Have you heard back from a school yet?
  6. @KEIM I know of some Baylor students w high GPA who also couldn't get in... its all about preference. CSULA has alot of pre-reqs so I did not get in... message the director of the program. She's kind, helpful and very prompt w email responses. Also-- THANK YOU!!! It means a ton!!
  7. @KEIM I've spoken w Baylor online students who are happy and I have a close contact w someone in Emerson's program (which records your interview through a zoom call). At the end of the day it depends on your interests.. they need to align w the school's. Don't worry about the numbers. Go with what you want and apply. CSUN's faculty is amazing however it is a three year program and I wanted a 2 yr.
  8. @keim I would have applied to Eastern New Mexico & it's online. Call the school and ask if there's a direct cut off! CBU in Cali has no direct cut off or requirement. I've attended their info sessions. They're holistic. BUT still competitive and expensive but they have a ton of resources. The faculty really want you to succeed there and they don't require you to be of a specific religion. I was very set on going there until I got accepted for spring 2020.
  9. @KEIM a well thought out personal statement made a huge difference
  10. @keim I can relate to the GRE concerns. Writing was my only strength can you share any numbers? or is there any experience or professors who would recommend you as a stellar academic?
  11. I had a 3.0 almost 3.1.. ish undergrad gpa and made it into a program. But, my major GPA was 3.7ish & my CSD gpa was 3.97 and I worked 5 yrs in the schools. Depends on the applicant's experiences in speech too! @KEIM Hm... I used to have a list like that until I had to pay so much.. keeping track of all your transcripts, recommendations apps in itself felt like a full-time job. Please reconsider reducing to schools you REALLY want to attend. And don't knock yourself from Cali schools. It is possible.
  12. @speechie264 HI!! How exciting! please point her in the direction of this post! I was hoping to connect w some ppl who will be in the group!
  13. Hi there, Looking for others who were accepted to Fresno State for S2020! + those who will or won't be accepting their acceptance/waitlisted! I'll be attending and I haven't heard from anyone else about this ^^^. I'd be moving to Fresno but I'm from LA!
  14. I know nothing except what I've read on like google searches + what I see on google maps. I've been accepted to Grad School and not sure if anyone recommends any specific quiet apartments? or specific study areas besides the library (which looks really nice online) I'm from So-cal so its only a 3 hr drive but I've never been to central california! I know its rather isolated? It looks like there is life around campus so I should not be too bored. What do people do around there? Is there any hiking or natural things? What are the schools out there like?/are there any major hospitals? Do people fight over parking..its crazy with parking in LA. What's the culture (I currently live in the ghetto in LA so that doesn't concern me). Please give me as many details as you can! I heard clovis is okay? Is it really that different? PS.- plan to by an air purifier since its really bad air quality there! Thanks for all your advice and input.
  15. @datu72 I just heard back from CSU Fresno! I was accepted!!! its such a seriously amazing feeling. After reading the letter I felt a little dizzy...like am I processing this right? I had to read it twice! Thank you for being so positive! I did not anticipate to hear the news so soon ;0
  16. @alyssafrancis Makes total sense! You're considerate / careful with looking at their stats..alot of people don't do that and they can be outdated... so I always ask to make sure-- but thats just me! I personally prefer a holistic school but honestly all of your decision-making sounds really solid! Thanks for sharing! Fingers crossed it all works out. My only advice is get started and finish early. Don't stress over it but really just get the ball moving and it will be over shortly I'm here with ya!
  17. @datu72 you know what if it works for you it works for you. More power to you for continuing! I really appreciate your positivity and kind words! You're great!! I know you'll also make a fabulous SLP and I'm grateful regardless of what happens.. but really I hope to hear good things sometime in the future! YAY! January start! You'll totally start the year brand new! Do you know anyone in your cohort yet? I think there's a thread somewhere where people got admitted?! CONGRATS!!!
  18. @alyssafrancis What made you select that school? Where else do you want to go? I'm from So cal...so it makes sense to apply to online!
  19. @MadisonMachelle This is my second round of applications with a near 4.0 GPA ... CSU are notoriously difficult to get into due to mostly accepting their own students. I realized that once I already paid all my applications ;0 if you can afford it do it! I see Eastern NM has lower GRE requirements.. a friend of mine attends CU boulder and loves it! It all depends on what kind of program you're looking for. I made the mistake of casting a wide, wide net and not understanding what my needs were. Are you going for affordable? In person preference? Private school facilities? What makes you the best possible clinician -- like what setting would work best. Be sure to check the unit requirement for admissions. I'm unable to apply to some programs because of that even though I did all the pre-reqs. CSULA requires a class that they offer and Frisco as well. My application did not get looked at @CSUN since one of my GRE scores was below 150. Call the schools because sometimes its the little things that matter Fingers crossed for you!!
  20. @slpwholovescoffee Hi! I applied to Emerson College, although they have a rule where you can't apply to online + in person within a whole year so... not sure what they will do with my application. Also waiting on CSU Fresno! Fingers and toes Crossed. I applied to 9 programs in the fall but I learned so much about what NOT to do. I feel you on the stressful part. I check my email once or twice a day and I'm like cmmmmon. @datu72 CONGRATS!!! did you apply anywhere else? I LOVE what Baylor has to offer but at over 80k the cost seems so so so high to me. With the CFY salary and the first years salary idk if it's feasible to do. What track did you select?
  21. Hiii everyone! So I applied Fall 2019 and it did not turn out the way I expected! I'm from Cali and it really is THAT competitive lmao Re-applied for Spring 2020 @ 2 schools. Anyone else want to share? The wait is awwwwwwful. PLZ post your anxiety or acceptances so I can feel for you and then cheer for you.
