  1. Hey y'all! I have been waitlisted at University of Illinois - Chicago. If anyone has been admitted and is not going to accept the offer, please tell them soon! UIC is among my top choices.
  2. Is anyone else waiting for a TA offer from ASU? I've seen a couple people post on the results page that they've been accepted and I'm wondering if anyone else is in the same boat as me... When I asked the Graduate Coordinator, they replied saying that there is a list of people waiting and that "It is difficult to say if or when an offer will be sent to you. It could be as soon as today, or potentially during the summer. If an offer becomes available, we will reach out to you." Not very helpful ?
  3. Are you pursuing the Linguistic or the Literature track? I applied to same program (Linguistics track), but have not heard back yet. I emailed the program coordinator last week and she told me that they would have an answer by early to mid March so I guess she lied... Anyways, congrats to you! I got into my master's program off the waitlist so there's definitely hope :)
  4. My status has been that same one for like a month now. I talked to one of the professors last week and he said that we should be receiving news either this week or the next. Hopefully we'll hear positive news soon!
  5. Congrats on your acceptance to ASU! Which track did you apply to, Linguistics or Literature? ASU is my first choice (Spanish Linguistics) and I still have not heard back so I'm freaking out a bit Hopefully you hear back from the others soon. I did my master's at UIUC and heard back from them at the end of February so don't lose hope
  6. Hola May I ask when you heard back from UIC? I have not heard back from them yet and I am starting to freak out a bit. Hopefully you hear back from others soon!
  7. For anyone applying to UT, I know one of the professors that reviews applications and I emailed him to ask about when should we expect to hear back and received the following response: "I totally enjoyed reading your file, and ranked it high. From there, things go over my level of involvement, but the next phase from our end is to find out how many students we have the budget and capacity to accept. Some years it is just 3-4 other years it is 5-7. That really affects things. It may be, for example, that we have 10 highly ranked candidates, but only 4 positions to offer. It then becomes a two-sided game of who do we accept and who accepts us (because many students apply to multiple schools and may or may not want to come to UT in the end). All that to say that we are still early in the game, and I wouldn’t expect decisions to be made for a few weeks yet. I’ll try to talk to Laura to see if she has a better sense of the actual dates." Will post again if I hear anything else. ¡Buena suerte a todxs!
  8. Hola I applied to UT Austin as well and have not heard back yet. I think we should be hearing back (late January or early February) based on forums from previous years on here. Which track have you applied to? I applied to Spanish Linguistics. Good luck y ya verás que vas a entrar al programa indicado para ti, ¡ánimo! Will post if I hear anything.
  9. Hello :) Anyone else applied to Penn GSE? I applied to the Educational Linguistics PhD. I believe that invitations to the doctoral candidate weekend are supposed to come out this week. Getting so anxious!
  10. Hi @keating5! I am also interested in Spanish in the US You should also look into UIC! @senorbrightside I am so sorry to hear that! I completed my MA in Spanish Literature at UIUC back in 2016 and later decided that the PhD was not for me (3 years later here I am applying to programs and shifting to Linguistics haha). Anyways, I think you should definitely ask your professors (especially your advisor) for feedback and recommendation letters. The fact that you were rejected does not mean that they think you are not capable of completing a doctoral program. Maybe they just think that your interests & the focus of the program do not align? I know that happened to a couple people in my class. Do not lose hope if this is what you really want. Al final, todo va a salir bien, ya verás. ¡No te desanimes!
  11. ¡Hola a todos! I applied back in September (I was going to apply last year, but decided to wait another year last minute) and for some reason now that I know that universities will be looking at my application soon, I'm getting very anxious! I applied to Spanish Linguistics programs in four universities: UT Austin, Arizona State, University of Illinois at Chicago & University of Pennsylvania (Educational Linguistics). I'm very excited for next year :)
