A PI I spoke with at UCSB told me I could apply directly to his lab using the psychological and brain sciences route (and skip rotations) and that he’ll see me at interviews (this was a month ago). Is it wrong to be optimistic about this? I’m trying to be cautious but hopeful.

later as in Jan or later as in later this year ? Still hoping sinai, I loved it when I interviewed there
I’m not entirely sure myself, haha. You’ve already interviewed there before?

Apparently Sinai is going to be sending out invites later this year because they want to set up virtual interviews and videos etc for Feb and that’s going to take some time.

Hi guys, I'm a intl. with a BS degree outside of US and currently a technician in a top 5 US school. Applied for 16 top programs, hoping that I can get into at least one : \
Fingercrossed we all get some news this week! Or it'll be a really painful and sleepless christmas.?Intl student here with a MSc from UCL and a BA from the US. Been a research tech at NYU for 2.5 years now. Only applied to 8 schools.. very risky move ? regretting it now haha.

Just got asked by UCSB to send in a writing sample. I don’t think I saw a place to upload it on the app. Anyway! It gave me a decent fright.
-
I think sinai sent out invites on this date last year!

Has anyone here applied to CSHL? I’ve heard it’s extremely competitive, but haven’t seen many applicants on here in general.

NYU Neural Science says most invites are out, but they have a waitlist.
Baylor CM Neuro says apps still under review, but some intl rejections are out already
Who did you contact at NYU?

Just got my Columbia rejection

Same situation. Also, international. I have seen that people apply to RA Jobs in US on J-1 visa in this thread but after googling I got the idea that few employers would hire people on J-1 cause it's a long process or something. How are you planning on getting RA position? I feel that's the only of getting experience that would be significant for a phd consideration.
I’m on a J1 and it wasn’t really a long process. If it’s a university you’re applying to, they have HR that does the process and the PI doesn’t have to bother with it at all.

Does anyone have news about NYU invites? I saw a few post about it, but it seemed like not many did. I’m wondering if there may be another round of emails in the new year?
-
Im sort of noticing a trend that a lot of people with interviews are computational / theoretical / math and physics background people. I heard that admissions in many schools are looking for more people with these interests, and this sort of confirms that.

Do any schools send stuff on 24/25 or do we have to wait till after Christmas now?

What about the 2-year home residency requirement for J-1 visa??
Didn’t apply for me! I was worried about that but was exempt.

I am sorry but it does look like one. It contains an online form for choosing interview dates
I applied through Sackler so here's to hoping that's a different set of interview emails.

GSAS, because I thought it might be easier for intl students
Did it look like a mass email to you? Sorry, freaking out here!

Sure! Jan 23-24 or Feb 6-7
Did you apply through Sackler or GSAS?

Hmm, the email didn’t mention it, but it was the PI of the lab I selected as my first choice in the app. Might be worth reaching out to them personally in a few days if you haven’t heard since I think it’s a much more specific pairing than other neuro programs.
