I wonder if 2011 is gradcafe's most neurotic season yet. -
hahahahahha@ 40 rounds.

sour grapes

My acceptance letter from IU-Bloomington said "Space may be limited, so please reply as soon as possible!" What. The. Hell. does that mean? It's not like i'm booking a cruise, IU. You'll hold my place til April 15th and you will damn well enjoy it!

Cats, thankyouverymuch! That does sound a little strange though. In my country you aren't legally allowed to exclude any species at a veterinary clinic.

The time difference is drving me crazy!
surprisecake replied to dreaming 1's topic in IHOG: International House of Grads
I love my 12 hour time difference!! I can spend my days in peace, knowing nobody is going to contact me and there's no point in checking my email. The only waiting I have to do is from the time I wake up in the morning to rolling over and checking my iPhone. If there's something in my inbox- Yay! If there's nothing- get on with my day because there's not going to be any movement until the next morning. I'm productive all day and go to sleep excited! Exclamation points! (But to be fair- this only applies after I got my first admit, before which I was nervous 24/7, no matter what) -
Can somebody recommend a good veterinarian in AA?
-
Do you mind sharing how/when you were notified? I have been waiting on their results for a while.

Fred! Have you heard back from UCB ESPM? BTW Yale FES decisions are probably coming out March 18th! -
Here's a thread for environmental science applicants who have a minor focus in policy:
-
I don't know how many environmental studies applicants lurk around these forums, but this is our thread! Lets discuss our not-quite-policy-but-not-quite-engineering environmental studies applications and choices. Most rankings and talk about job opportunities are focused on environmental policy... but which schools are best for those of us focusing on hard environmental science with additional courses in policy and management? I applied to a cross section of schools and i've left the deciding part for April! Here's my school list (as per my sig too): UC Berkeley Environmental Science Policy and Management- MS in ESPM Yale FES- MEM Arizona State University School of Sustainability- MS in sustainability, UC Santa Barbara Bren- MESM Cornell Department of Natural Resources- MS in Natural Resources Duke Nicholas School- MEM University of Illinois UC- (NRESM) MS Indiana University SPEA- MSES University of Michigan SNRE- MS in Natural Resources and Environment Alumni or current students of any of these programs- please share anything you think we should know!

I scored 480-490 on my first few practise tests. I memorised 2200+ words that were totally new to me in two months and ended up with a 740 verbal score. Just sayin! I also think i've retained about 40% of my new vocabularly. One of my (science) programs at Berkeley plainly said your GRE+GPA is 50% of your decision...for local and international students.

Graduate Program: M.S. Natural Resources and Environment Undergraduate Institution: .... is Indian. Undergraduate Major(s): .... can only be described as various animal sciences. Undergraduate GPA: 7.67/10 GRE Q680, V740, AW 4.0 Years out of Undergrad: None. Graduating in July 2011. Work Experience: 3 irrelevant years in Journalism (part-time) LORs: 2 research advisors who wrote very tailored and detailed letters., 1 generic letter from the Dean of academics. I avoided Did-well-in-class letters. 2 small pubs, 2 big conference posters. Lots of whimsical independent research that I somehow managed to get published. My undergraduate degree is also very whimsical. Whimsy seems to have worked for me. Is else here deciding between UMich SNRE and IU SPEA? -
utter failure

I don't even remember what happened in the last 7 years. Right out of school, I started down the path to mass media (I was already working as a journalist). Now i'm a veterinarian. What the? 0_o

I have never seen a forum filled with so much congeniality, productive discussion and complete lack of trolls.

Yo mama so stupid, she cites wikipedia as a reference in her masters thesis.
-
Yo mama so fat, she had to book two simultaneous appointments to take the GRE.

The first thing i'll do is call my parents and who are probably the only people who will say anything genuinely reassuring and supportive. Then I will yell into the empty room. Then I will locate whichever one of my 3 cats is asleep at that time and take a long, warm comforting nap curled around him or her. Followed by gooey pizza for dinner.
