  1. to everybody who has heard back from schools... how soon before the deadlines did you'll send in your apps?
  2. awesome, 2shieh! when and in what way did you get the UMich admit? I've pretty much applied everywhere (as my signature indicates)... no admits or rejects yet
  3. I am so glad I am 12 hours ahead and will be fast asleep!
  4. Should have, would have, procrastinated instead.
  5. anaerobic bacteria
  6. republican party
  7. I'm 23 and I think i'm the exact age my (masters) programs are looking for. Atleast I have something going for me!
  8. I'm a resident veterinarian and for 25 days this february i'm posted at huge goverment-run poultry farm. I am pretty sure this is one of the weirdest jobs I am ever going to have. On the plus side: BABY BIRDS FTW!
  9. super ball!
  10. Russian monarch
  11. No, haha... I managed to convince myself not to expect any results until march 15th. But...i've stopped socialising, exercising and all kinds of non-internet based recreation so that I can sit here and compulsively refresh my inbox and the results section. Why can't I leave?!
  12. This is the first time in my entire life I wait for mondays...
  13. koalaface?
  14. Thats what I always thought, but I thought i'd share my experience for future applicants reading this thread. I sent out emails starting from a few days before the deadline to more than a month after. One never replied, two were interested but had no openings, two were interested and asked for my CV and copies of my posters and papers and one actually ended that she was excited about my application and looked forward to reading it. Granted, I have no idea if any of it will actually lead to an acceptance but i'm glad I sent out the mails. I'm sure in some cases late emails are annoying as hell but if you *really* have a good fit with a professor/lab, I would go for it even if I were late.
  15. Oh dear god... I keep ignoring those confirmation of submission emails because they're so generic and misinformed. And this year most of them seem to be going along the lines of 'Because of the infinite number of applications recieved this season, we will be sending notifications by the year 2387 as opposed to March' I just checked my ASU email now. End of Feb eh? We'll see.
  16. Congratulations again seahawk! What makes you say that about SOS?
  17. You could email them and ask. My transcripts showed up on the application webpages over 2 weeks after they were recieved. P.S. try Tata Photon
  18. There are some parts of my SOP that aren't very clear in meaning. They only really make sense to people who know my research background, i'm not sure how much will sink in with the adcoms. Didn't contact professors early enough. Didn't get my transcripts evaluated by WES as recommended by my #1 school. I really didn't want to give more money to these third party type places and when i eventually submitted my application, I found they converted my international GPA to a 3.01/4 .... which it most certainly is not!! waiting hurts
  19. what kind of presentation is it?
  20. This thread makes me so glad I decided not to apply to SIPA.
  21. It's on the SoS website! Even worse, one month AFTER applying to Berkeley, i discovered that they are "primarily a PhD school, and 2 masters students are admitted in a year' :S It was in their damn FAQs, how did I not see that before?!
  22. are you applying for the MS or MA at SoS? I can't believe they only admit EIGHT students for each program in a year. I wonder how many applications they get.
  23. under him? This may be implied if a thesis is mandatory in your programs. closely matches my interests. Interested in... or fascinated by, at most! Dr. Injong Rhee's research in TCP/IP networks, flow and congestion control, and Multicast interests me greatly and I would be keen to pursue these areas at the Masters level. (More than satisfied --- please avoid!) In general, never refer to faculty by their titles, always use "Dr." Dramatic! Erase! I am confident that my consistent academic performance, my sincere dedication to my research projects and willingness to learn will allow me to thrive at the School of XXXX Sorry it wouldn't let me put all the quotes in one post!
  24. 'It was a challenge to stay in the top 10 of your class while juggling part-time work'. Again, try not to plainly state you "judiciously allocated time". That's implied. Minor grammar edit: I REALLY doubt that line of reasoning will go down well with adcomms. I would eliminate these lines entirely and continue with wanting to build on your undergraduate courses and develop your skills in XXXX, to enable you to pursue your career of choice. = is ideal. The distinguished faculty and research labs associated with/ working in my field of interest
  25. Undertook Remove! Might annoy adcomms. awesome I would remove these lines: If you want to share something in your statement, why don't you try to weave it into a narrative? You've stated a lot of things very plainly and they don't read too well.
