Hi everyone! I recently got an interview to Boston University. In the email they sent out, it stated that it was "highly recommended o do an in-person interview, but if you couldn't come to campus, Skype interviews are available". I am currently in South Bend, Indiana finishing my undergrad degree, am on an athletic team, and have a job coaching figure skating, so it is not very convenient to fly. However, I do not want to hurt my chances of getting in so I am thinking about flying out to Boston. Does anybody know if your chances are higher when doing an in-person interview vs. Skype? Has anyone done either of the interviews before? Any information would be great!

Any information about the interview process would be greatly appreciated! Were your questions more based off your application or were they kind of analytical, questions that make you think? I know Saint Mary's College does an online interview and the questions wee not related to your application at all. -

Just got an interview for Boston University. I am currently in South Bend, Indiana and am finishing up my last year of undergrad. In the email BU sent out, it says on-campus interviews are highly recommended, but Skype interviews are available. Obviously, it is not very convenient for me to fly out but I am now highly considering it on the basis that it might hurt my chances of getting in if I don't. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? -

UTHSCSA is more medical based. Currently, I am minoring in Neuroscience and taking classes like Medical Rehabilitation and Adult Language Disorders to help me prepare for this. Clinical hours are all off campus, as their is no on campus clinic, so you may do them anywhere! On thing that I have heard from a current student is that there are no actual labs, they only have simulation labs. Class sizes are very small, so if you're coming from a big program, it might take some getting used to. Undergraduate speech pathology is a lot of basic knowledge. I feel that the educational vs. medical aspect gets evened out in grad school. However, I do think there are certain classes and areas of study you can focus on to help with whatever path you are looking to -
Fall 2020 Applications

The reason I'm applying to UTHSCSA is 1) because it is at home and about 10 minutes away from where I live 2) emphasis on medical speech pathology 3) I possibly may live in SA and it would be nice to have connections there when starting out a new job My concerns however are that 1) there are no GRE requirements (seems odd) 2) it is not accredited and is VERY new I know someone who attends the dental school there, and says the facilities are super nice and really up to date! -
GRE requirements

I think that was a very smart thing to do! You never know what they are looking for in admissions and even though your GPA is below what they "require", you could be the perfect candidate! -
GRE requirements

I did not get the GRE scores I was hoping for either. I took the exam twice and my score only improved 3 points and my writing improved by 0.5 points. Most schools do not have hard cut-offs for GRE because they would rather see a well rounded student. I applied to everywhere just to see where I would get in! Even if my GRE scores didn't align! I think the things that stand out in an application are... - Research Experience - Clinical Experience - Rigor of coursework - Volunteer Experience - Extracurriculars - Involvement in NSSLHA or other speech pathology clubs I know in undergraduate admissions, I have heard directly that rigor of coursework and the difficulty of the school, affects how you are judged. For example, a 3.4 at Harvard is probably a lot harder to receive than a 3.8 at a community college, and admissions know this. I think they take that into more consideration than the GRE, but yet again, I am not on the admissions committee and graduate schools admissions may be different! -
I agree that our writing ability definitely matters more than our math ability! Your writing ability effects how well you write SOAP notes and come up with POC's. However, I think it is important to also be well-rounded and show graduate school admission committees that you're capable of mathematical thinking, especially Statistics, as you'll need it for assessments. ASHA has no specific requirement for what type of physics, so I think you're fine! It is mostly important to know the physics of respiration, as it affects the quality of sound!

Hello everyone! I'm honestly so happy I found this site. The amount of support us future speech pathologists and audiologists give each-other is astounding! One thing I am super stressed about is decision declines. Waiting for decisions to be sent out is almost worse than all the personal statements I had to write to be honest?I keep checking my email inboxes and spam folders like multiple times a day, it's ridiculous. I am kind of a control freak, I want to control every aspect of my life. One thing I have had to realize is that, this process, is COMPLETELY out of my control and in the hands of the admissions committees. I cannot control if I get in or not. I cannot control if the applicant before me has a 2.5 GPA and is a non-major or someone who got a nearly perfect GRE score and has volunteered with every organization possible. Realizing that many of these processes and considerations are out of our hands, makes the waiting process a lot easier. All you can do is your very best! Admissions processes are almost like a game, you never know what they're looking for in a certain class. Be alright with where you are and know that you did all you could! Good luck everyone!!?

UConn SLP application

Just keep waiting! Sometimes it takes a while for everything to get in. Most schools have somewhat of a grace period for letters of Rec, GRE scores, and transcripts because most of it is out of your hands. -

Oh awesome! Does your application say completed in CSDCAS? Not verified? Mine did not take long at all to be verified, maybe a week or so... -

Hi! My name is Amanda and I am currently a senior studying Speech Language Pathology as my undergraduate degree at Saint Mary's College in Notre Dame, Indiana. I applied to over 15 graduate programs (I'm just finishing my last one for Penn State University). I was wondering if there is anyone who knows anything good/bad, pros/cons for each of these schools I applied to? I would also like to know if anyone knows when decisions will be sent out. I can't keep checking my email like over 100 times a day? Also, I am from San Antonio, Texas and know a little bit about the program at UTHSCSA. If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask!
