  1. Kicking off this thread for this years round. Good luck everyone! First question: For those who have applied before, do you know if Ford will take any recent updates on awards? I recently got a teaching award and don't know if they'll accept an update.
  2. Hi there! I toured U of Leeds for this program, and found that the program was super flexible in terms of allowing students to focus on topics not traditionally seen as "Art History." An example provided to me by the director fell largely in cultural studies vs. art history. It seems like it is very much a "what you make it" style program. I wasn't in love with Leeds the city, and even though it sounded like a great program, it didn't seem to suit me based on the structure I desired (also, it would have been expensive as an international student). I would say it's worth a conversation with their director or one of their faculty.
  3. wow thank you so much for your openness! this is very helpful.
  4. For those who got in this year, could you share what your review scores looked like? I got some helpful comments but I'm also trying to guage where I am on the score sheet truly.
  5. There's quite few on the honorable mention list: http://nrc58.nas.edu/FordFellows20/ExtRpts/PressReleaseRoster.aspx?RptMode=HM&CompYr=2020
  6. commenting to follow this thread. i also applied for predoctoral (first time).
  7. Curious if you heard. I pinged them yesterday and was told there was no available funding. I do wish they had emailed me this sooner. I think I'm going to go for it, and just apply to graduate assistantships and try to make it work. I can't tell if it's COVID related but I suspect it might be. The alternative - staying at a job and risk the economic downfall, possibly furlough, maybe even layoffs? They said I could reapply next year to be considered for funding, but I'm expecting an influx of applications next year like what happened in the recession.
  8. And only 2 more days left. A current student said they all had a meeting and indicated new students would still be funded, but I haven't heard anything still. Is it weird I feel bad emailing them? Like I'm bothering them?
  9. With just a few more days before signing day - I'm getting worried. I got an acceptance but was told I would be hearing about a financial offer at a later date. I asked end of March if they knew when that would be - they said earliest April 1, and that the circumstances surrounding COVID were delaying these offer decisions. But now, with what's been brought up in this thread - I'm wondering if there's a chance that there won't be any funding or if the admission offer will be rescinded. I find myself even more on the edge of my seat than I was waiting for responses in the first place.
  10. WTF I can't imagine there are, but you woul think there would be legal ramifactions for this. Did you put down a deposit?
  11. Since I've heard absolutely nothing - I'm thinking it's probably a no for me.
  12. Not in the U.S. but University of Glasgow has a textile program and a textile conservataion program.
  13. Not sure yet, but I think my top choice might extend the deadline because now financial offer decisions have been moved to past the deadline.
  14. The school I'm most interested in closed and they offered admission but were still determining funding... I was told I may not hear about funding until much closer to signing day. Oof.
  15. At a campus visit, current students said they liked iTalki for language tutoring. It cost money though. That program also provides previous exams for practice.
  16. When and how did you hear from UBC?
  17. @Findingapurpose @the97kid Have any of you heard from UBC yet?
  18. I don't even know where to put this - so here it goes in the venting thread. I'm pretty sure where I'm going to accept an offer, the program is GREAT, but I am so turned off by the schools web site(s). This is a Big 10 university with a great reputation - but MULTIPLE school's websites within the university have the most god-awful, outdated websites, including for my program, sometimes with gramatical errors, pages that have unupdated deadlines or other information since 2017, so many different style of web pages, and so many broken links. From varrious school websites, to the student health center website, to the GRADUATE ADMISSIONS PAGE - this school needs a massive web overhaul. There is also so much lack of interconnectivity between related departments on campus. I can see so much potential for them administratively, but it seems widely disorganized. I don't get the impression it's disorganized in the areas that matter (research support, libraries, etc.) but it's the little things that can make a big impression, IMO. In addition to all of these web issues, I set up an account with the transportation department for some parking information - and the site linked my new account to not one, but TWO differen't people's information so that I was able to see their name, number, address, email, license plate, etc.. This school has also has a history of a privacy breach where thousands of students' and employees' personal info including SSNS were released. I'm so excited to go, but can't get past the idea that they can't get it together to get on par with every other school in the 21st century.
  19. Thanks to you both! My program doesn't qualify for the Saltire Scholarship - and I am finding that an offer I hold in the U.S. would be a better financial decision (and the program has a leg up in some other ways.) The program at UG is actually a taught MA, not a research MA. And yes, I too disagree re: Glasgow - I've been there and fell in love with the city. The program at Edinburgh may look great, but meeting with the director I read into some issues with the program that discouraged me from applying - and I found Glasgow to be more on the cutting edge in the contemporary art world. The professors were also talented and wonderful. In regards to crime/violence (which I really don't count as an issue) it's basically the same as where I live in the states anyway. On the down side, I'm not finding financial options that would allow me to attend, but on the up side, I've got a great offer stateside. Thanks for the advice!
  20. Didn’t get through the first round- I applied to a UK partnership program that’s very competitive. From the slack channel, I gathered that literally no one got an email about notification, even people who were selected as a semi finalist.
  21. How is it that every single rejection I’ve received (2 schools and Fulbright), I haven’t received an email, it’s just posted on the portal. Is that the norm now? I don’t think it’s that complicated to mail merge and send a boiler plate email. It makes me think my application was barely even looked at.
  22. Oof - that's what I suspected when I got a rejection pretty quickly from my top choice. I figured I was a first round elimination - and that stung. They take 4/40 applicants though, and I got into a pretty great program, so I've gotta *chin up* and move on, but I really regret my writing sample choice and wish I took the time to just write something completely new. On that note though - really annoyed with having one acceptance, and two pending. I'm doing a campus visit and attending a symposium, and I'm pretty impressed by the program so far but it feels like I'm marrying the first person I met at speed dating without checking out the other folks ?
  23. Any UT Austin Masters admits from the results page care to share their POI/who contacted them re: unoffical acceptance?
  24. Wow! That's a great sign - hopefully it also means a good funding package for you!
