  1. Boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo avoid this person's dep for sure
  2. You are more qualified than me, and I got into most of the MAs I applied to and almost got a PhD slot. It might even look better for you that you did not graduate HS/follow the conventional path and then went on to do all this! I had not done any presentations or published any papers before applying (and my GPA was worse). You're in great shape, but probably take the GRE (a formality, but dunno if they are waving it do to covid) ? edit: Also, so long as your writing sample is well-written and insightful, you should be fine. And, except for as a worse case scenario, you do not want to be in a department that would have such a reactionary and reductive view of addiction. Those are not good academics in the ways that matter.
  3. How are your graduate philosophy/history and philosophy of science courses structured? Do you have lectures in classes that are not split with undergrads? Or is class led by student presentation? Etc. etc. Thanksss
  4. There is almost no analytic philosophy outside of analytic philosophy, it would be really wack if evangelion started spouting Kripke
  5. I'd be so down for that.......but imagine the travesty that would be Analytic Philosophy of Evangelion. Side note, is the Human Instrumentality Project the fabled analytic/continental synthesis?
  6. Anyone else on the waitlist for Indiana HPS PhD?
  7. Congrats! Also, I just finished Evangelion and now your username hits a lot different
  8. Wow! That would be A Lot. On the bright side, maybe one of the people who I'm waiting for on a PhD waitlist, who is waiting on another person on another waitlist, will defer their admission ?
  9. I have been thinking about how old most distinguished profs are...... yikes?
  10. Yeah, I've never heard of this. A prof will either have the time and willingness to help you, or will not & will tell you so. If they do help you, an appreciative e-mail is all that is expected. Likely, they'd be uncomfortable with anything more
  11. Hello,I am sure that you can see on the online application whether or not the fee can be paid with a MasterCard. Otherwise, you will have to use a different type of card, like Visa or Discover. Hope this clears things up.
  12. Yeah, like hopefully school won't need to be virtual come september??
  13. Do you think the April 15th deadline will be extended due to corona?
  14. I don't think analytic philosophy's gonna get you outta this one, spud
  15. Bottom line, I think you gotta just "read the room" or people will get a n g e r y, as a general matter
  16. Thanks for spreading your passion & good vibes--the faculty at my undergrad have been really important figures in my life & when I heard claims about BC being a "cashcow MA", I was very upset given that their course offerings and specialties look awesome. I got accepted into the program so I will definitely keep your input in mind
  17. Just checked the website again & I've been accepted!
  18. One of 6! Congrats on that. I don't know anything about their funding situation, but I am personally outraged that they accepted 6/170 of their applicants and can't even offer y'all funding. Good luck!
  19. Someone posted a Boston College masters acceptance last night--anyone else get any response from the masters program? I haven't
  20. The safer vs. better thing makes a lot of sense. What would you say a "safe" student looks like to a school, vs. a better student that is riskier?
  21. Very wholesome post, I am sure wherever you end up going will allow you to continue falling in love with the world of letters
  22. Is it weird that Pitt HPS hasn't released their rejections yet? Like, come on ? I'm waitingg
  23. Yeah, and just some anecdotal evidence here but: my quant score is 140 and that has not gotten me straight rejected from every program. My other scores are 155 and 4.5 Them grad schools know we low score-achieving freaks are out here & full of good ideas ??
  24. There are a lot of good articles in good journals out there. Philosophy academia is not as predictable or rational of a process as we applicants would like to hope
  25. I received a similar e-mail a couple of weeks ago--bizarre is a pretty accurate descriptor ? Thanks for the info
