  1. Ahh, I got my first acceptance of the season! UNC Greensboro! Fully funded, close to friends, and Xhenet Aliu on faculty. :) After sitting on 3 waitlists, it feels amazing to have a solid offer. Hope you guys are taking care of yourselves and have some good news coming your way. And a huge congrats to all the acceptances I've seen! So proud.
  2. I'm with you guys. This is my second round, but I think I've been even more anxious than my first. I've already had slightly better results (one waitlist so far, as opposed to all R's) but I feel like this is my last chance. I don't think I can handle another round. Also, has anyone else had amplified "sunday scaries" since notification season started? I'm so terrified of Mondays now--I can just feel all the waves of notifications getting closer.
  3. Jumping on the daddy issues train, haha! I guess instead of Motherless Brooklyn, we'd be Fatherless Iowa?
  4. Omg, the dream is real!! Congratulations! A little spark of hope in these scary times :)
  5. Oh absolutely. Just got that sweet, sweet Syracuse rejection email and it's not even noon. Hang in there, everyone!!
  6. I didn't end up doing any real film work (besides a couple of PA gigs) after graduation, but during the program we were required to get experience in every position. That said, I really enjoyed 1st AC/focus-pulling and sound mixing. But screenwriting was my favorite...no surprise there! I didn't have the organizational skills for working with costumes/production design, but I admire everyone who does. So many little pieces to keep track of!
  7. I went to film school for undergrad and all my friends are living this life right now. It's the reason I decided not to pursue film as a career, even though I loved being on set. It's a trial by fire unless you're extremely lucky or have connections.
  8. While I agree that fully-funded programs are the only way to go when applying, I broadened my apps a LOT my second time around (like, from 6 to 23) because I discovered there were programs that are slightly more under-the-radar, but fund nearly all of their accepted students. Schools like UNC Greensboro, Eastern Washington, Texas State, etc. I didn't even notice these programs my first round because I applied based on "reputation." But there are so many amazing schools out there, with their own unique styles. What's done is done, so don't beat yourself up about where you applied this round, but just know that if you have to apply again (of course, I hope you don't!) there are plenty of options out there. And hopefully it gets you closer to finding the right school for you
  9. I've been avoiding my app materials like the plague ever since I hit submit. UF asked me to re-send my sample a week or so ago, and I was so tempted to peek at it... but I know it'll only make my nerves worse! Haha, same here. There are typically more fiction apps than poetry, so it makes sense.
  10. Hey, y'all. Fiction applicant and lurker-turned-commenter here. Just wanted to say that this forum has provided some much-needed camaraderie during this intense waiting period. I've decided to take a break from Draft for the time being, since I like the atmosphere a lot more over here! So, hi. :) Also, don't know if any of you have heard Phase II notifications have gone out for Ole Miss. The ones I've seen have just been poetry, though. Think they're waiting to release fiction? And omg that random Boise State waitlist has me nervous too.
