  1. Yep! It is a vicious cycle. Probably there's a large chance I will be unsuccessful this year. But anyway, today is April 15th, I will see what will happen. I wish you the best luck for your application this year.
  2. I totally feel you! It's April 15th today. I am not sure if I need to call them or just wait for their notification. I'll see what will happen today. I wish you the best luck on your application.
  3. I may be wrong. I sometimes will also check phd placement. The placement can explain the reputation and scholarship of a phd program from certain perspectives. Of course it is important to join a good research team, but if you pursue a career in academia, you probably want to check their placement. A tenure track position could somehow secure your future academic life after you obtain your doctor title.
  4. I totally agree with DSCSMS. Dude, I understand you want to go to a good program, but since the covid19 outbreaks, everything including the academia may change in the coming fall semester or even next year. You never know what's gonna happen next year and some program 100% depends on outside fundings. I've heard some programs shrink their projects since the pandemic destroy the economy. If I were you, I probably will go the school which sent me the offer. Even it is your safety school, you applied for it with a reason. It is not the deadline yet, communicate with your professors and let them give you some advice.
  5. Dude, based on my own experience, the results are usually negative. You are correct. You still got hope, but it's tiny. Call them on April 15. Georgia is a pretty good school. Big name universities often complete recruitment very early.
  6. Hi guys, the waiting game is still there. I am waiting listed in a Finance PhD program and the coordinator just informed me that they haven't heard anything from the applicants whom they sent offers to at this moment. The program only sent out two offers and neither of those two students make a decision yet. I didn't apply for too many programs this year. Two rejected me in late match, I withdrew one, and now I am waiting for the last one to either accept or deny me. The coordinator is extremely nice and provided me much information about the program but I was told the only chance I could be removed from the waitlist is one student declining the offer. The coordinator promised to notify me as soon as they got any information from the students. I was quite depressed in February. Now I got two job offers and it really eases my stress. So I am not really worry about my life in September. But do a phd is still me first choice. I am wondering why those students haven't made any decisions at this moment. I know the deadline is April 15th, so theoretically, nobody can force them to make a decision now. They may want to wait for their top choices, but I believe most programs have already settled down, especially top programs. I'll wait until April 15 and contact the program again. Who can tell me what is my possibility to get on board this year based on my situation? For those who have more than two offers in hand and haven't decided where to go now. Please at least decline one offer and give some hope to the students on waitlists. You all, please stay safe and healthy in the pandemic at this very moment.
  7. Dude, I can definitely feel you. Listen, I'll give you some suggestions. FIRST OF ALL! TAKE A BREAK! I know you already saw a therapist, but that's not enough. Go for a vacation. I know the pandemic makes a vacation pretty impossible at this very moment, but at least stay with your family or people you trust, tell them your dilemma and let them watch you and make sure you don't do anything stupid. Have a deep breath every morning you wake up and refresh yourself. Do sports! Sports can physically inspire you and bring back your confidence. Second. Allow yourself to have more choices in life. Go for a graduate program is not the only choice, or maybe it is not even the best choice for most people. Try to switch your life plan to something else. Go get a job or you can start your business. All business giants start from small businesses. Third. Dude, please stop complaining. I have a friend who lost his mother when he was 11 and his dad left him and went to another country and had a new wife, even though he told me his dad always loves him. He didn't see his father for almost 20 years. But he never complains. He is a very positive guy and makes a lot of good friends. Your life heavily depends on your attitude. Sorry to say that, but I can see many negatives in your words. To be honest, a negative guy won't really survive a graduate program at a top ranked university. A research oriented program usually requires candidates to dedicate all their time and efforts into academic activities, and you will feel a lot of stress. If you keep questioning yourself and the people around you, you will feel even more depressed. Four, if you really want to do a master's or phd program. I will suggest you apply for more programs. Don't limit yourself in Canada. Try Europe or any English speaking countries. You will have more options and opportunities. BTW, you are still on the waitlist of three schools. you still go chances to enroll this year. Don't give up!
  8. Does anyone hear from the Finance PhD Program at U of Oklahoma? This is the only program I haven't heard anything yet. I know they did interviews early February, but wondering if they've sent out all offers.
  9. Hi Guys, Wondering what is the possibility of getting admitted from waiting list. When schools will send out second round admissions or interviews.
  10. Sorry to tell you that most residency required business PhDs do require GMAT. You may find some PhD programs offer GMAT waiver, however, if you look closely, you''ll find those are online programs which have little credits in academia. The reason why GMAT is a prerequisite mainly because first the admission committee need a "standard" to screen all applications. Usually, each program will receive hundreds of applications each year while only a few can make to the short list. So GMAT can be a good standard to shrink the applicant pool. Second, when the faculty members have no idea about you, they need your GMAT score to reveal your academic capacity. Even though I've heard from several professors saying GMAT/GRE is not a reliable measure. That's probably why some PhDs don't require standard test scores. but unfortunately, business PhDs is very old school. I've never seen business PhD programs offer waivers on standard tests. I suggest you spend a year preparing the test and try your luck in 2021. You'll be fine with a reasonable GMAT score (I mean at least 600).
  11. I got informed by the finance PhD program at Kent State that I am waiting listed. Any one wants to decline the offer, please let me know. Also, wish all applicants have a happy ending this year.
