    Damn, alternate for Mandarin. Better than a rejection I suppose, but it still means I can't solidify my summer plans.

    This is good to know. If I get it, I will definitely accept and find a way to supplement my income.

    When it was virtual last year, was there still a stipend for living expenses? That is my biggest concern. If we're overseas, everything is covered. If we're in the States, will I still need to foot the bill for my living expenses? I would love to be able to focus exclusively on the CLS curriculum this summer, instead of balancing it with a part-time job.

    I've received no information yet regarding Mandarin. I am cautiously optimistic about in-person learning, but I know some other programs have switched to virtual.

    I’m a graduate student and Returned Peace Corps Volunteer. If accepted as a finalist, I imagine I will be older than many members of the Chinese cohort.

    Just got an email that I’m a semifinalist for Mandarin!

    Hope so too. Don’t want to call Victoria at the last minute to request a reversal of the program. I am NOT paying to quarantine myself.

    I committed to the SAIS-Tsinghua program this morning. Super excited for what’s to come!

    I haven't heard back on reconsideration or received an invitation to a talk yet.

    I hope not because I have other offers that need a response by 4/15.

    Oh of course. My point is I could potentially defer but see if I could take one class per semester part time to make the full-time load easier the following year. Not even sure if that's possible though. SAIS doesn't charge per credit hour, so it might be too pricey to do it that way.

    I would potentially consider taking one class online, so I could continue working full time. I just hope such a decision isn't made too late. I don't want to move to DC just to find out that the fall semester will be online.

    I think most of if not all of that is for undergraduate students.

    Not yet. I imagine it will be after April 3 once the deadline to submit the form has passed.

    Yep, you'd need to pay your deposit for another program and hope for the best.

    Maybe. Maybe not. Before I submit any deposit, I will ask what their plan is for the fall.

    I'll probably defer if that happens. No way I'm paying full tuition for online classes.

    @Spunkydudette and @PP2020, this was a personal response to one I sent yesterday asking whether or not I received aid. I should have made it clearer. I imagine that link I shared will be sent to everyone soon.
