I agree! Also, many organizations beyond grad school collect this information as a way to collect stats on who is applying. I cant imagine a grad school would have a specific quota for bisexual people, especially when there can be much improvement in equity and inclusion in the programs (This is a common perspective among my classmates, as a second year audio student).
To the OP SoaringSLP is replying to, I am sure that you are feeling frustrated and looking for reasons that may justify what you perceive to be unfair, but it is not appropriate to direct that frustration to a marginalized community.

This is also a good point. Non-diverse classes can negatively impact the entire profession and diversity helps us best support our patients. For example, during the newcomer sceenings, my SLP middle eastern classmate was able to speak Arabic to the Syrian refugee children, which helped them feel more comfortable and open up. My queer classmates are passionate about gender-affirming health care and are interested in voice therapy for transgender clients. My friend who is of Pakistani descent automatically knew how to pronounce a patient of similar descent's name, and I could see how the patient smiled with familiarity and relief. It's cheesy but its true, although programs have a long way to go in terms of equity and equal representation, I've seen myself the positive impact of how diversity improves the quality of our care

I honestly think western stopped sharing wait list information because they've gotten severely inundated with applications in the recent years. I think the people who get accepted, do so because they have every right to be there, irrespective of a certain quota. I know our current first year cohort at UofT is probably the most diverse one yet but that could be down to quite literally anything besides just EDI. While they may take this into account, I don't believe it would be an overriding factor into whether someone receives an acceptance or offer to the program. And quite frankly, if this is something they are considering when looking at apps, I don't think it's a terrible thing when you consider how diverse the populations SLPs work with are and continue to be.  I hesitate to bring this up because I'd probably be crucified but if you look back at previous cohorts, they've consisted mainly of white women and one man thrown in the mix. I think the lack of transparency and information about the waitlist is because they've become so inundated with applications and so that their selection process can remain private for whatever reason.

Thats amazing! Did you need a CDA certificate to become an SLPA? Could you elaborate more on the differences in roles between CDAs and SLPAs?

I'm not sure of its current accreditation status, but I believe before it was accredited/if it isn't yet accredited graduates were only able to practice in the province of Ontario. That was my understanding of what I read the last time I looked into McMaster (which was a year or two ago now).

Hello! Personally, I don't think it matters at all! Its an accomplishment that you've worked extremely hard towards and one you should be proud of. I don't think sharing that news with friends/family online should be something one should feel shameful about doing

    Hey all!
I just found out I have offers from U of T and Western and got waitlisted for McMaster!
I can hardly process that right now because I felt soo sure I would get rejected even though I put everything into it (anyone else got imposter syndrome!?). I hope everyone who went through this process gives themselves a pat on the back for the hard work, regardless of what the outcome was tonight!! Happy to share if anyone wants info/stats
Applied to: UofT | Western  | McMaster
    Accepted Waitlisted Rejected

I received offers from both UofT and Western. I will be accepting my offer from UofT! I'm shaking so bad. Congratulations to those who have received acceptances and waitlist offers. I would inquire with Janet on which quadrant you are on the waitlist. You've all done amazing!

LOL you're so sweet!! Yes, kind of funny how this group has simultaneously stressed me out x 1000 and caused me to hyper focus on people's individual Sgpa's and fine details that may or may not be relevant but also given me a community of like minded people to vent to, ask questions, and generally support each other through this very stressful process - thank you all for helping me get through this haha

Anybody else super excited but also super nervous and not going to be able to sleep for the next 24 hours? ?  Honestly the not knowing is KILLING ME... Super hope all of the answers come out at midnight or I'll be up on my laptop refreshing until it comes in .. eek goodluck to everybody ❤️ I know it's still another day (and a bit) away but you guys have made me feel very supported during this crazy process and I'm so thankful I stumbled upon this group. Just getting through the process of applying is an accomplishment in itself, so no matter what comes tomorrow we should all still be proud of ourselves. We got this guys!! I wish I was in charge of the selection committees so I could just admit everyone to their top schools!!

I am caught between "everything happens for a reason" and not wanting to deal with any kind of rejection. The waiting game is one thing, but having absolutely no idea where you stand is the worst! Friday can't come fast enough!!

Hey guys! Just heard back from U of A and I'm on the waiting list (and in the top half)!! Super exciting news as I've never applied there before and wasn't quite sure what they were looking for.
    In case it helps:
My cGPA is 3.44 and my sGPA is about 3.75 (81.9% average). My CASPer was in the 3rd quartile. I have over 140 hours volunteering in the SLP clinic at a children's hospital, as well as a number of non-clinical settings. No research experience (my university doesn't have a CSD department), but I am currently working on my LING honours.

Congrats to you as well! I don't speak French and I've heard that its much harder to get practicums at McGill if you only speak English. I've also heard that McGill is much more theory based whereas UofA is more clinical which is more my priority. I've just heard such amazing things about UofA in general and know a few SLPs who have been there and loved it. Also, UofA is closer to home for me and more affordable which is for sure a big factor! I also applied to UofT but even if I do get in, I still think UofA is my top choice. I am sure all the schools are amazing though, I don't think you can go wrong

Hey, I know you are referring to Dalhousie but on UofTs website they state you do not need an honours degree. That being said, I don’t think any of the schools require one nor would it make that much of a difference. I think programs generally put more weight on GPA and experience to inform their decisions but that’s just my humble opinion :)

Wow! Amazing stats and congratulations. I am also in education and I also had the same concern of only psych/ling applicants getting in. This seems to be changing in more recent years which is amazing  Speaking about education being the best foundation to SLP in your LOI is genius! I couldn't agree more and hearing your statement, I wish I emphasized that even more than I did in my own LOI haha. I only applied to Ontario schools so I am anxiously waiting to here back on April 1st but I am happy to see a fellow educator accepted into SLP! All the best
