I get two days leave with pay for my uni's spring beak. Good timing too as I will be interviewing at my remaining schools during those two days.
-
It is not spring break for all universities in the US. Each schools has its own spring break period. For those that are open, then you should still expect to hear results.
-
I would say all three of these are highly dependent on each university, and they should be detailed in the financial award letter they send to you in the mail. It also never hurts to contact your prospective schools to ask about this. You might be able to elicit a better response by posting and browsing past posts in the Computer Science subforum.

NYT Article: Doctoral Candidates Anticipate Hard Times
Dreams replied to waitingtoexhale's topic in The Lobby
9 years for a dissertation in English? That's about a third of a career! I agree the market is oversaturated and who knows how it will be in the future. People should carefully consider the opportunity costs of getting a degree in a particular field. It might turn out that a PhD is not the best route. -
how can i get research experience without being in school?
Dreams replied to frankdux's topic in Waiting it Out
Right what the above poster said! Also check the job listings on university websites. Sometimes they post research assistant positions there. -
Welcome to the board. I don't know when WWS will notify, but it will be this month. Based on the result page from previous years, I am anticipating end of next week.

You sure kept to the "long standing brands."

You aren't the only one who gets burdened down psychologically by debt. Compared to some people I know, I graduated with a relatively low debt burden but it still bothered me. So I spent most of my income paying it down against the advice of others. And I made sure when applying to schools this round, that I would only apply to those who would in all likelihood fund me, and in the best case do so in addition to giving me some sort of stipend. That way I would not have to worry about a horrendous amount of debt coming out and could focus on finding a job I really liked.

Thanks and same here. I also haven't heard from them, but It is my hope I hear from them soon because coordinating several visits will take a lot of time and money .

Starting Our Own (Inspired by Zoberg and Recycled Viking)
Dreams replied to MDLee's topic in Waiting it Out
And if they are accepted, we will send them a welcome mug of Meade from Viking's course. -
An accept is an accept, unless it is some sort of contest to see how many acceptances you can get. If you want to go to the university, then take the acceptance and enroll. If not, then reapply next only to universities you would actually attend if admitted.

I hope university benefits include free tuition, because I am totally getting a degree from the Dark Age North Atlantic History Department -

Private Universities Don't Use TAs?
Dreams replied to HisRoyalHighness's topic in Decisions, Decisions
Definitely dependent on school and department because there are several private unis that I know use TAs and the opposite. -

Hmm many thanks I will cash in the cookies towards my retirement since my chef will be hooking me up. I will need to craft labor internships for the students so they can build the Ducktales-esque vault that will hold my gold coins  -
Admits with no funding or no word on funding yet?
Dreams replied to Tumbleweed's topic in Waiting it Out
When I was accepted at CUSSW, my funding letter came a few months after the admit letter. Granted I was admitted around Januaryish, and I think the letter came around end of March. So give it just a bit more time. -

Can I be dean of students? My office would consist of plush bouncy pillows, stuffed animals, and a pastry chef. When students come in for interviews, they should be required to dress up as their undergrad mascots. -
So does that mean you will tear it up at JHU?

I agree about your name. It is perhaps the second best name on the forum next to pregasauraus Anyway, the SIPA people responsible for finaid came under fire last semester for reportedly painting an incorrect picture on the amount of students who get financial aid. It is less than the way they describe it on the original site. Check out relevant Morningside Post articles from last semester about this. I found one article about this http://themorningsidepost.com/2008/08/5 ... very-time/ But the redesigned site is a bit difficult to navigate and I could not find the post that a finaid officer replied to.

They sure put it bluntly. But Columbia as a whole is typically very stingy with funding. I have had experience with this with them. Based on their admissions site, they said offers nominated for fellowship would be posted later. It so far is holding true because all posts so far have been without funding. splic if SIPA is a top choice for you, you might want to wait a bit and then contact them sometime in April before you make any final decisions to see where you are on the waitlist. In previous years they have tapped into the waitlist as late as early summer.

Any schools with late deadlines or rolling admissions??
Dreams replied to allamerican's topic in Languages
How is someone supposed to help you without knowing more information about you like - say your discipline and interests? Unless you plan on applying to everything someone posts. -
Ok I had to chuckle at that one! I imagine they would waitlist people without funding. Unless someone has ever been waitlisted with funding!! They usually go to the wait list when people begin declining admission offers, usually because they can not afford to attend SIPA. The question is whether the list is ranked or randomized.

I spoke to them in the beginning of February when they contacted me about my application. Each Social Science track in SMS has its own coordinator and each track admits a couple of students independently I believe based on a conversation with a current student there. But I don't know if they rank all applicants together first. Sorry I don't have more information. But I gathered that they are very supportive of the students there, unlike other experiences I have had at Columbia
-
I applied. I also talked to the grad coordinator there a while ago on the phone. They are admitting very few people this year for SMS.

For those considering LSE and have worries about future competitiveness in the US market should consider US schools with dual degree partnerships with LSE. SIPA is one of them and you can get both degrees in 2 years. There are several schools I came across when first looking at programs that partner with LSE, though they elude me at the moment.
