  1. Does anyone know when OISE CCP program will be posting an updated list of accepting faculty for Sept 2021?
  2. Oh wow thanks for this update. Mac is one of my top schools. Interesting that they don’t determine this until after apps are due
  3. I have a virtual meeting with a potential supervisor today, any last minute tips/advice? Any additional questions that are good to ask???
  4. I’m kinda in the same boat! I started my funding app but definitely don’t think I’ll have much done until October...
  5. Hi Emilyxxxx, do you mind PM'ing me how it went? I am really interested in their program and am looking for more info! Would greatly appreciate it!
  6. how many hours per week are you guys planning to work on apps? I've already started but I am hoping to dedicate a 3-4 hour block each week starting second week of september. Is this enough time? My cv is already ready to go. Just planning to work on personal statements and funding
  7. While the last two comments suggested not requesting a meeting, I've heard the opposite. Most profs would tell you if they don't have time to meet or if they just don't meet with students. I don't think it hurts to ask to set up a meeting, if they're willing to take time out of their day to speak with you I'd argue that's a good sign even though it may not translate to an interview or offer later on. I've always heard from my PhD mentors and faculty supervisors that it doesn't hurt to ask.
  8. I don’t think you have anything to be concerned about, your scores are fantastic!
  9. Yes, I'm quite conflicted... I was speaking to a supervisor (who I actually plan on applying to) and she mentioned that my scores are good but she doesnt want my quant score (56) to stick out unnecessarily even tho I have a great stats mark /:. I did raise the point that if I don't submit it may seem that I just did poorly across the board -- still debating what to do tbh
  10. Exactly it’s a big commitment! I mean it may help you stick out in some way but I know a lot of people who contact PIs and never hear from them for interviews etc
  11. I think it helps with asking Qs like what kind of supervisor they are and if you would fit with the prof and in their labs culture. Also if they publish etc .. I guess these things are more important if you don’t wanna just do therapy
  12. Totally get where you're coming from. My game plan was email and ask if they're taking a student and simultaneously request a meeting. 2/3 profs got back to me; 1 said yes she's taking and she is happy to chat (in the process of scheduling a meeting now) and the second I emailed in July she told me I would be a good fit she is just ironing out stuff in her clinic so we are meeting mid August. My plan is to talk to them and express interest, see how I can fit in their lab etc. Potentially maintain contact after that if possible (e.g., follow up with more questions) and then send another follow up in Oct/Nov saying Hi again just wanted to say I am applying now and reiterate I am super interested in your work.
  13. I’ve had a few profs be willing to schedule a call with me now, it seems that September is gonna be super hectic for people considering the start of school and getting used to remote teaching
  14. Hi all! I have upcoming meetings with potential PIs and I’m wondering what are some good questions to ask them?
  15. I would still email other profs.. many profs entertain multiple students who email them. I know a few people who had a phone call with the same supervisor prior to applications and none of them got interviews with this PI. So while it’s nice to hear back from profs many of them say I look forward to your application etc. to many many students. definitely follow up with those who don’t email you back. And unfortunately no you can’t bring CGS with you if you got it at one school but not another
  16. I've emailed 2, one responded in a week -- it's been a week since I've emailed the second and haven't heard back yet..
  17. To those who have reached out to PIs to express interest in their work & ask if they’re taking on a student how long (on average) does it take them to respond? One prof emailed me back in a week & I just emailed another so I’m trying to gauge what’s typical.
  18. I’ve heard to be pretty detailed but not exhaustive. I’ve added who I am and where I did my undergrad etc. Stated I am emailing to express interest in their work and ask if they’re accepting. Then summarized my research experience (I’ve been in x labs in x roles) then went into a couple of my research experiences that fit with their line of work. Then asked to meet to discuss my app if possible and attached my CV and unofficial transcript for their reference
  19. I believe you need to look into provincial level funding at each institution (i.e., the schools you are applying to)!
  20. I think your best route if you don’t like research and you actually want to treat patients would be a PsyD or a counselling MA. If you aim for med school you will likely be doing a lot of additional unnecessary work to end up seeing many of your psychiatric patients for 15-30 minute appointments and then prescribing them medication (unless you would pursue a specialization outside of psychiatry then of course go for it)! you can also look to do a clinical MA in one of the provinces that only require an MA to be a psychologist. If you are interested in moving. This can be found on the CPA website. I also think counselling programs are a great way to just do therapy! i hope this somewhat helps, I know it can be overwhelming not knowing what to do.
  21. Got it.. I emailed one prof and heard back as well -- I will likely email others in the next couple weeks!
  22. So exciting to hear everyone’s research interests! My interests are optimizing interventions for highly emotionally dysregulated individuals (i.e., those with BPD), PTSD and suicidality. A second line of research I’m interested in is harnessing the power of relationships to improve severe mental illness. i too fear that the pool of applicants may be bigger, yet I don’t necessarily think that’ll make it more competitive to be honest. But I am worried. Also worried that a profs won’t take students due to covid. I’ve confirmed through my network that 2 profs I’m applying to are taking so that’s helpful.
