  1. Interesting research interests! I know there aren’t many profs doing psychotherapy process so it’s hard to find a good fit. How have you been able to determine who’s accepting yet?
  2. Likewise I’m only applying to 5 schools.. I really don’t want to settle for research that I’m not super passionate about since I hope to pursue a career in academia
  3. Do you mind providing me the link for the Ontario requirements of courses?
  4. Thanks for doing this! Really Interesting that they explicitly stated it won’t factor in. I still feel that you can’t unsee someone’s GRE scores if they’ve been submitted
  5. Thank you! I don't in a clinical setting but through my labs I've been trained on therapy process behavioural coding, I've conducted suicide risk assessments and have interacted with clinical participants
  6. I don’t think having clinical oriented experience is necessary but research experience in general is weighted more heavily. I don’t know how I compare to others (first year applying) but for some context this is my experience. ive been in 5 research labs the first lab: there for 2.5 years (started as volunteer, then got paid for two summers as a paid RA, then was the lab manager) - social psych second lab: did two independent research projects and have been lab manager for a year - social psych third lab: 1.5 years, did my thesis - clinical psych fourth lab: one summer - clinical psych fifth lab: 1 year - started as volunteer RA now lab coordinator - clinical psych 1 publication (first authored) 2 pubs submitted (one at revise and resubmit), not first authored (second and fourth) 2 pubs in prep (both first authored) 1 accepted talk (Giving next year - first authored) 12 posters (6 first authored) last two years gpa is 8.83/9 CGPA 8.3
  7. If it’s optional/encouraged I don’t think it can be used as a screening tool.. rather it might be used if you’re head to head with another candidate. also, OGS and CGS-M don’t require GRE scores!
  8. I found the test to be much easier than Magoosh, Kaplan test prep and the ETS powerprep plus! I scored about the same for Quant, but scored about 5-6 points higher on Verbal
  9. Not sure about McGill but regarding your practice scores I was the same and then did way better on V than quant on the test. I honestly found that all of the practice tests I took weren't at all reflective of the test, but that was just my experience.
  10. Yeah I agree with this.. I'm just not sure what to do because my quant is mid 50s and the other two are in the 80s.. I have an A+ in stats but don't want my quant score to be a red flag
  11. I definitely think each professor weights things differently. The first round of cutoffs is usually if you meet the degree criteria (have an undergrad degree in Psychology) and then GPA (each school differs but for clinical it's typically A- to A). The schools who are still looking at GRE scores might also consider this at the first stage (although I don't think it truly holds as much weight as other parts of your app).. Personally I've been told research experience weighs a lot, particularly because it is getting so competitive now that people end up having research experience in the exact topic they hope to pursue their graduate degree. I even know some people who started their clinical MA/Phd program with a previous master's in a psychology field (i.e., forensic psych, counselling psych). I still believe you obtain the necessary skills through other research experiences and work experiences in general, just the competition is continuously getting worse. What I'm saying might apply to the more competitive schools (i.e., those in the GTA, UBC, UVic) but if you're willing to leave the GTA then you may have more options. Nonetheless, this is just what I've learned from my experience and could be very wrong!
  12. I've heard if you have one lower score it's okay -- and the rest of your scores are awesome! I think it honestly depends on the rest of your application. I think you'll still be looked at despite the low quant score imo.
  13. York Brain and Behaviour just announced no GRE scores for this cycle.. not sure if the clinical program will follow
  14. Yup me too kind of annoyed.. I stressed for months got decent quant (above 50) & above 80 for verbal and AW
  15. Ryerson just announced that they are no longer requiring GRE scores...
  16. Welcome!! I totally second what another person said.. taking the GRE at home was WAY better than the test centre.. I did 8 practice tests all in the exact same place as my real test so when it came to test time I just felt like it was practice. Totally recommend!
  17. This makes sense!! I think I’m going to aim for early-mid July so it gives them a bit more time to potentially know about funding thanks for this!!
  18. Hmm.. I’ve been told that that’s pretty late and profs often have made connections with people at that point!
  19. Is anyone planning on emailing profs soon? I’ve heard July is a good time??
