  1. Which funding agency are you referring to? I didn't know that you are limited in terms of how many schools you can list!
  2. I've had some people private message me about this so feel free to! I understand that it's pretty personal info to put on a public forum
  3. I'm back with more questions lol. For those currently in the program: how do you afford things? Are the stipends offered enough to cover rent and living expenses without support from family, taking loans, or dipping into savings? If not, how easy is it to get funding from internal/external scholarships, TA-ing, etc. I know a lot of times, this source of funding is not guaranteed and many people don't get OGS, NSERC, etc. Do you have a part-time job outside of uni? For those (like me) applying this fall: can you share what you know about the funding packages at your schools of interest? Also, how will you plan your expenses? This is a big concern to me, as I have to be financially independent throughout my Master's-PhD.
  4. What sort of email exchanges did you have? I'm in the same boat as the person you were replying to after sending out a bunch of emails. Some professors have said they cannot do interviews before applications, some have just acknowledged my CV and said they are accepting, and a couple requested a Zoom meeting. Should I suggest Zoom meetings with profs that acknowledge my CV and respond to my email? I'm not sure if its a valuable way to spend my time given what you are saying. How common is it, or I guess how necessary is it to have this meeting prior to applications? Or, can I simply just express my interest now and once I have applied? Also, seeing as you're in the program, I'm curious to find out what your research and clinical experience was like going into the program?
  5. What kind of questions do you suggest I ask in email to get this info? Is this something I should do now or later on after I've sent my application/gotten an interview?
  6. Hey guys, how are your emails going with POIs? I sent a bunch out yesterday and this morning, and have been getting a few responses acknowledging my CV and email and saying they will look out for my application. Others are saying they will not be able to take on clinical students, but can take on experimental students. Does anyone know how this process works? I understand admission to the clinical program is more competitive than the experimental program...do they just want to secure experimental students for their labs? How do professors get matched with students?
  7. When seeking potential supervisors to reach out to, what is your criteria? I understand when you look for a PI for a purely research-oriented grad program, you want to get into a leading lab, where the grad students are publishing in high impact journals. Also, I've been told it's critical to find someone who is active, motivated, and obviously a good match...but is this even applicable for Clinical Psych Master's programs? I do ideally want to work with someone who will be a good mentor and maintains a healthy lab environment. At the moment, I'm filtering first by university, then lab topics and methods that interest me, and then seeing if the prof is even taking students. Then, I check out the professor...are they tenured? Are they pumping out publications? How many grad students do they have? What do their students have to say on RateMyProf? What else should I look out for? Also, each university has approximately 3-5 labs that investigate the general topic I'm interested in. Does it look bad if I reach out to several profs in the same university?
  8. Hey everyone! When are you planning on sending out your applications? I know submissions are open from October - December (dates vary depending on the school), but how early are you planning on submitting them? I heard that earlier is better, so I'm trying to figure out my dates for GRE, completing my statement of interest, etc.
  9. Hey guys...just a thought RE all these uni's waiving the GRE for this admissions cycle. Entrance into the PhD program after the Master's for some uni's requires a completed GRE in the last 5 years. Do you think this will be waived for those of us that gain admission during this cycle? I hope those of us who decide not to take it right now will not have to do it before PhD.
  10. Does anyone know what the status is for GRE Psychology scores in Canada? Do universities still encourage it given that most are not even requiring the general GRE? I saw some unis require a "broad range" of psych courses. I have a major in Psych and specialist in Neuro, (not many courses in social/developmental psych, but interested in adult abnormal psych, neuropsych, and aging anyway). I wanted to take it just in case this is a weakness for my application. I know this test is not offered online, and registration begins today for it.
  11. That sounds awful...Sorry that happened! In response to your original post: I would give it a couple weeks and reach out to uni's you are applying to (also, check their admission stats for GRE scores!) If the GRE is not required but still accepted you should re-write it, given that you think you can improve your score. If you can add something extra to boost your application, why not? When it comes down to a decision between you and another student that has a similar GPA, research experience, and PI's interest, I think it helps to have a solid GRE score to sway the admissions team in your direction.
  12. Wow! Your experience is amazing! Do you have volunteer experience in a clinical setting?
  13. Does anyone know what the status is for GRE Psychology scores in Canada? Do universities still encourage it? I know this test is not offered online, and registration begins tomorrow for it.
  14. Hey guys! I'm wondering what your research experience is like, especially given that with the GRE being waived at many schools there is more emphasis on academics + research experience. I have more neuro-heavy research experience, have some undergrad conference presentations, and one publication in an undergraduate journal. How important do you guys think it is that to have worked in clinically-oriented research, and have substantial publications?
  15. I haven't written the GRE at home yet, but I'm in the same boat. I only have approx. 5-6 schools I would be happy being accepted to, so I'm not sure if I should write it anyway. Can I ask what made the experience with Proctor U so bad?
