What excites you most about grad school?
theregalrenegade replied to LeatherElbows's topic in History
Research......I love delving into old, dusty archives in a dim-lit room, amid the mists of the past. -

For the UNLV admit that posted today - if you PM me I can tell you about the department

Congrats to vstevie (I'm so jealous of your participation in that beer festival!) and to all of the others I've missed! What a great day for you all. I wish I could just send a mass email to all the schools that I've yet to hear from and say "So.......?" But I won't...sigh.

Yay! I knew there would be good news for you! Congratulations!

I'd email the DGS at the university or call the grad office. Sounds like a link is out of whack.

Do you ever wonder if some schools (and POIs) just forget about you and your app (misplace it, get involved with other things, etc.)? After months have gone by, I think it would be hard to keep track of everyone. Sorry, just an early morning musing as I check websites and email.

Sorry for BC, but 5 schools left is quite a bit - stay positive!

Congrats on your first acceptance!

I just saw a UCSB admit! Anyone want to come forward and let us know the details?? I received an email yesterday afternoon from Nottingham - accepted!

Anxiety of Thesis
theregalrenegade replied to cindywindy's topic in Writing, Presenting and Publishing
Anxiety level - 3 I have one section done - since it was a paper I did for a seminar. However, to integrate this section will take some reworking and editing. Since my thesis is based on a three case study, I'll have a large introduction (historiography), a section for each case study, and a conclusion. What I just wrote here is the most planning I've done so far. I'm currently finishing up my source list for my adviser, who at this point I wish was more of a hard ass, but I'm trying to impose my own strict deadlines. I know I'll need to master the skill of self-discipline in order to be successful as a PhD! As for the writing, I'm going to take Dal PhDer's advice and just write everything down - all my thoughts and summaries of the sources I read. I feel that doing this will show me the patterns and themes I'm looking for and help solidify my argument. Good luck everyone! I wish there was a check-in thread for our thesis progress. -

I know I've always been interested in the history of headwear, but had no idea MIT had such a program

I will definitely be PMing you in the near future about all this UK business - thankfully I won't have to jump into the bacon debate since I'm a vegetarian

Thank you for the advice. I'll take any I can get, especially from those so close! I'm sure I'll have business outside of Scotland, but I'll make sure to curse in a thick Scottish brogue... (this led to looking up how-to-curse-in-Scottish videos on you tube: Hilarious!)

Providence IS pricey! My best friend lives in Newport and I don't know how she does it on a state attorney's salary. It is gorgeous, but you've got other offers that suit you better

Wow! Thank you for such detailed information. This is extremely helpful. The weather will definitely test my fortitude, but I swear I'd live in a dirt hole if they pay me for my education. Besides, I need some wet to appreciate the dry I suffer through now!
