Just got an email from Duke with 34k in funding (over 2 years), two 4k assistantships, and 2.5k stipend for summer internship funding. Fingers crossed y'all get some great financial aid too!

Got an acceptance call from Duke on Sunday morning at 11am PST, was surprised that they called over the weekend, but they're planning to send the emails sometime this week on Tuesday or Wednesday. Person on the call was a student ambassador and she was brilliant and so friendly. Anyone else heard back from Duke? Curious what sort of FinAid I get!

^same, go bears!

If you don't mind me asking, how did you find out today's the day? Obviously the earlier the better, but just curious!

We hear back in march right?

Hey @tan1023, did you get an email from SIPA titled: "SIPA: Financial Aid Award Letter"? They sent me one on Jan 4th. Granted it was primarily FAFSA related award and no scholarship/grants. Would you say scholarships and FAFSA related aid are given out at different times?

Nope, I didn't, and they haven't asked me for anything else either. Unless they ask for it specifically, I don't think we need to send them anything.

Yep, me! Digital governance, but also the intersection of technology and policy to tackle disinformation in media. Feel free to DM me, lets talk!

I feel you big time on looking for anything to latch on to, but I wouldn't read too much into it (unless someone else has some inside knowledge). Guess we'll find out when we find out. Obviously, easier said than done haha.

Low GPA 2020 round successful applicant – happy to help
joshyboy replied to user918's topic in Government Affairs Forum
Hi user918, thanks for taking the time to start this topic. I'm sure your stellar GRE scores helped, but how did you position yourself as an applicant to these schools? Ie: Explain your low GPA- 7 replies

Why did YOU reject the Harris school?
joshyboy replied to ridofme's topic in Government Affairs Forum
Kind of the opposite experience for me. They've been great about responding to my emails and queries. They scheduled multiple calls with me and even responded to my emails after I submitted my application. I do think that their overall reputation academically has improved from 8 years ago. From what I can ascertain, Harris is just a short peg lower than HKS/WWS. Feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken. -
Question for ya'll. HKS just added a new blog post stating that the "Optional Statement" is mandatory if you've decided not to submit your GRE score due to COVID related reasons. Though I took the GRE, I decided not to submit it to HKS cause I'd prefer to show my quant knowledge through my work experience of 5 years. Since my reasoning isn't strictly COVID based, would I need to speak to it in my Optional Statement? I have already completed my Optional Statement on a something I faced during my undergraduate time, thus space is limited. Leaning towards not saying anything, but always good to gauge others as well.

Appreciate the response, mate! Admissions office confirmed the same thing to me. thanks!

Question for y'all. The early action deadline for UChicago is today and I've submitted my application. However I'm still waiting on one of my professors to submit a recommendation. If he only ends up submitting it later in the week does that mean my application will not be read as Early Action / within the bounds of the deadline? Emailed Admissions, but wanted to get additional thoughts.

Just submitted as well, good luck everyone! Keep this thread updated if you all hear anything

Yep I'm applying to the CEG fellowship myself. When I was on a call with the admissions folks and asked them about it more (how much $$ does the fellowship provide etc), they weren't able to give me too many details. I think they're still figuring things out regarding this fellowship.

Applying to Harris MPP for EA! Sending y'all good vibes for Harris and all the other upcoming apps

I know that they ask for 75th percentile for the MPA-ID program which is far more quant heavy than the MPP, so I think aiming for that would be your best bet. Other than that, haven't seen hard stats floating around on the internet.

GRE is optional for HKS MPP this year (make sure to include why you didn't take it in the Optional Statement) https://hksadmissionblog.tumblr.com/post/631261704288911360/2021-application-long-term-planning-series-post

From what I can tell, that prompt was there last year as well, but they have slightly altered Prompt 2 from previous years.
-
They haven't released the app yet, but they just posted the questions to their blog. Big thing to note is answers can't be more than 500 words. In previous years the limit has been 600 words. https://hksadmissionblog.tumblr.com/post/631172997073567744/2021-application-long-term-planning-series-post

Did you get any aid? What factors are you looking at when deciding between both these schools? Duke is a considerably better university (leaps and bounds), but there's more to accepting a school than just a ranking.

There's a HKS blogpost from September 28th which mentioned "The master’s programs admission application will be available in early October and the admission application deadline will be in early December." https://hksadmissionblog.tumblr.com/post/630500794799702016/2021-application-cycle-fellowshipscholarship
