  1. Oh no! I’m sorry. Hopefully you can get feedback from them, if you’re interested, on what to do for next year. I’ve heard it’s not uncommon to apply more than one cycle. ❤️
  2. There probably won’t be any updates from Penn until next week.... so no news to distract you here ?
  3. I agree - I think the professional programs are probably doing slightly better (budget wise) because students often pay more toward tuition. Staffing can definitely factor in as far as class size or matching research/project interest. i thought I remembered Bama’s cohort being around 20.... but I can’t remember where and I can’t find that information on their site.
  4. That definitely seems to be the case across the board. I’ve heard this has been an especially competitive application cycle. I’ve also heard that a lot of traditional PhD programs are either on pause (for new applicants) or have no/limited funding due to Covid. ?
  5. - Good! You seem so busy, I hope you get a plenty of R&R and a chance to recharge!
  6. Yes! ? Remind me, did you only apply to Bama?
  7. Welcome! Happy you found us! i know someone who currently attends Tulane. They have positive feedback!
  8. How are people distracting themselves? I took on a tutoring case for a fellow SW who has had a hard time passing their exam. It’s helpful. Lots of material review, test anxiety management, etc etc....
  9. Penn gives you a summer break. I think July and most of August, if I remember correctly. i think a lot of the programs go straight through. With 1-2 weeks between semesters.
  10. I would imagine it’s a pretty popular program. Flexible, micro or macro (granted I’m a fan of integrated practice). Plus the cost! Great bargain for an R1 school. My grandparents lived in Alabama (grandfather was stationed at Maxwell AFB down in Montgomery) so I spent a lot of my summers there. You and Ninja will have to keep us posted on the process. ?❤️
  11. I’ll likely apply again next cycle, if I don’t get in. Already thinking about what I would change about my application + get more interview practice. (Downside of staying with employers for 5+ years, not a lot of recent interview practice.. ?)
  12. There is someone on the thread that applied to Bama. I think on page 3. ? What date did you submit your Penn application?
  13. Oops, I quoted the wrong person - so sorry.
  14. Yeah - confirmed that they’ll decide in mid April. Sounds like they have a very thorough process. I’m fairly certain I rambled. Good luck! ?
  15. The past 2 years it seems like they have not made formal announcements (either way) until mid April (for the DSW). How was your interview?
  16. Yay midterms ? I’m in the process of grading midterms. I wasn’t able to make an NASW Legislative Action Committee meeting today because I was elbow deep in grading. It has been a good distraction from stressing too much about my interview tomorrow.
  17. Agreed! Happy to get more folks on the thread and hear about different application processes and program experiences.
  18. Good point! What are SC’s DSW cohort sizes?
  19. I like that they have a small cohort and I definitely like the price tag! I wish all public universities made on-line tuition the same as in-state! ? I think I remember their deadline being 3/1? When would you expect to hear back? Do they do interviews? ??????
  20. That’s awesome! Roll Tide! What track are you doing?
  21. Thanks so much! I’ll definitely keep people posted. This is probably going to be an especially competitive cycle. I’m hopeful but also preparing for the possibility that I may have to take a step back and reassess my options if I don’t get in. ?
  22. From the research I’ve done, there are a few approaches but no current best practice. Typically a mix of education, contact (interactions with people who have SUDs), and reflection. That being said, studies show that these interventions are typically only effective at changing behavior, not underlying beliefs. With that, a lot of disciplines (medicine, nursing, mental health, etc) have looked at implementing anti-stigma interventions and increasing SUD-specific education to future tx providers while they’re still in school/training. However, even this has been challenging because these efforts can be undermined by the implicit, or hidden, curriculum. TLDR: Lots of room for improvement and opportunities for research.
  23. Me either. I compared all the programs, their focus, costs, flexibility... and Penn was the one that really stood out (for what I want). I wish NYU’s program was online! As far as costs - Rutgers and UTK would be out-of-state tuition for me. I also considered Alabama.
  24. Hello! ?? I’m also curious to see what happens with doctoral-level accreditation! I’ve heard amazing things about UTK! For Penn, I love the fact that it is clinical + has research and a dissertation. I’m interested in academia (practice classes) and direct practice.
  25. it’s all absurd. Did you know medical doctors who struggle with SUDs are typically barred from getting medication assisted treatment if they want to keep their license? ? I could talk about this topic for hours... Did you apply anywhere else?
