Primarily teaching in a school of social work with the possibly of training, continuing education, and/or consulting with local agencies. Also, I am interested in applied research - testing anti-stigma interventions, etc. The school* I work at now is part of a multi-disciplinary institute on addiction with opportunities to focus on education and anti-stigma efforts. * My program has a DSW but I am not eligible to apply because I am faculty... I just recently double/triple checked.? It is quite common for faculty go over to the school of education instead. Same university but a different program is allowed. ? I am looking at other universities though because I want a different experience.

So one thing I have struggled with.... should I consider an EdD? ? My area of interest is increasing SUD education among treatment providers. 1) There is a need and 2) research shows that providers’ attitudes toward people with SUDs contribute to barriers in tx b/c of stigma/bias.... One of the core methods to help combat this is through education (implicit and explicit). Has anyone else here looked at EdDs? There are a few that seem geared toward this. edited for clarity - on my phone

Unable to open open the form.

I was going to ask for feedback and was told that many programs aren’t able/willing to do that...? Has anyone had success getting constructive feedback? ?

I’m going PM you a question about Tulane.

Makes sense! I think that’s why Alabama is such a great find and, sounds like, near impossible to get into. I go back and forth. Part of me wants to see what options there may be in 2-3 years and part of me wants to get the degree (there are a few options I am genuinely interested in) so that I can apply to teach in one of these future programs.

I could see Michigan doing a small in-person cohort. They seem to be dabbling in online but not to the extent that their business school - Ross - has. I’ll keep an eye on them.

Anyone else want to guess who may launch future programs? ? I was looking at existing programs, rankings, and geography and I could see the following schools rolling out a DSW: - These are just guesses and wishful thinking, I have no inside knowledge - ? *The Ohio State - have online MSW, top program, Midwest. Case Western - have online MSW, top program, Midwest. University of Denver - have online MSW, top program, West/Mountain *Arizona State - have online MSW, top program, West/South West Boston University- have online MSW, top program, New England/East Coast Columbia - have online MSW, top program, East Coast * Public

I agree - I think following the pilot, and assuming accreditation goes forward, I see a lot of programs shifting their admissions to 3+, etc.

Welcome! I am so sorry you didn’t get in. ? I would love to the opportunity to apply to NYU, unfortunately it’s not fully online and I am too far away.
-
I’ve spoken to someone currently at Penn and it sounds like the program is genuinely stretched thin as far as faculty resources/mentorship for dissertations, which is why they were only able to take 17 this year.
-
Your support is more than welcome and so very appreciated!

Thanks for the insight! It looks like this is a new question they’ve added. I want to make sure nothing is set to change before I submit, as it looks like I’m applying for the spring start. I think they used to have rolling admissions - how quickly did they provide a notification? Do they interview?
-
Looks like it. How long did it take to hear back? I noticed they added an additional question to the SOP: Additionally provide a statement describing your learning process. For example, you discover an error in your research or the research of a colleague or encounter an academic experience that challenges your perspective. How would you seek resolution and respond to the situation? Did you have this? If so, did you incorporate this into the SOP or do a separate essay/response?
-
Looks like it - I started the application because I know my recommenders have more time right now due to their schedules and my only option was to select Spring 22.
-
No - same here. I emailed Friday and tried to call today. I was told someone will get back to me in a few days.... ?. Working in academia, I realize this is likely the OPM and not the university itself.... I think i’m just going to start my application. I have grading this week and then one week of peace before the summer semester kicks off.
-
It’s possible it’s a typo. They have the Spring 2022 deadline.
-
I agree. Another great thing about grad-cafe is it helps you connect with folks and hear their stats/info. If gives you a decent idea of where you may stand. I had heard of an exceptionally qualified candidate (near perfect GPA, non traditional background) who got waitlisted one year and it helped me adjust my expectations.

Welcome! No updates on the ApplyWeb portal? I would check even if there isn’t an email. If there’s nothing there, you should reach out to Jeff!
-
Maybe! Online?
-
When is your start date for Tulane? During my research I saw deadlines for a Summer start (which I think just passed?) and Spring 2022, but nothing for Fall.
-
Yes. ? In my case, the initial outreach and application is managed by the OPM. So I tried not to judge the actual program. If you’re applying to online programs - note that some of the folks you’re interacting with don’t actually work for the school. (Even with the email/area code...)

#s A little context on those rejected (and accepted!) into two commonly mentioned programs here.... Penn & Bama. Penn had an acceptance rate of about 20% this year. And I wouldn’t be surprised if Alabama’s was even lower, given their program and price point - for reference their first cohort acceptance rate was 14%! These rates are *most selective* to *extremely selective.* Added context, Cornell undergrad acceptance rate is 14%. So, for those of us who didn’t make the cut this year for Penn or Bama, it really was a tough cycle! And for those who did - extra high five (or virtual elbow bump). ❤️

DSWs are launching every year! I thought I would share some of my research for next cycle: *University of Kentucky* Website: https://socialwork.uky.edu/academics/dsw/about-dsw/ General info: 100% Online Deadline: 4/15 (looks like one annual cohort) Summer start Three concentrations: Administrative Leadership, Clinical Social Work, or Military Behavioral Health. Background: https://uknow.uky.edu/campus-news/uk-responds-social-worker-shortage-launches-1st-online-doctorate-social-work-program Pros: Tier 1 Research University Looks like they offer in-state tuition to all online students (like Bama) - with that, high probability that they prioritize in-state applicants. Additional Pro: Kentucky Wildcats men's basketball ? ? No real cons - it’s relatively new and there just isn’t a lot of information out there.

Whew!!! Congratulations!
