Got my official rejection - e-mail to check ApplyWeb. “Each year we face the daunting task of selecting a new class of students for our Clinical DSW program. This involves a careful review by the DSW Admissions Committee, as well as consideration of program resources for mentoring. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer you admission for Fall 2021. This decision is not a reflection of your achievements, but rather a result of a large number of highly qualified applicants that far exceeds the available spaces for the entering class. We appreciate your interest in Penn’s Clinical DSW program and wish you every success in your future academic endeavors.“ *** It’s been a pleasure getting to connect (and wait!) with people. Huge congratulations to those who got accepted! I’m sure I’ll be back soon. Onward!

Related - anyone who has heard back - did you receive your official/offer? If so, what is the time frame to decline/accept.

An interview with school admin and then an interview with eligible agencies* Sorry for the added post, it won’t let me edit.

In my case, it was a state funded stipend (California Social Work Education Center (CalSWEC)) Each SW program was awarded a select # of stipends to distribute among students. It was pretty selective with an application, interview, and then you had to interview for an eligible internship (partnering public service agencies). Upon graduation, you worked with an eligible agency for a set time. I got lucky and my agency hired me after graduation.

Put the ball in their court? Let them now you were recently offered a spot at UCLA, which would be in-state tuition. Would they be willing or able to increase your scholarship?

There won’t be repercussions. You have to do what’s in your best interest. They don’t keep a list or anything. They probably don’t even track it. They will get your deposit and easily backfill your spot from the wait list.

It’s a teeny tiny - and torturous - crack left in a slowly closing door - and I can’t look away. ?
-
Historically - Penn gets together and builds the cohort holistically from qualified candidates - they then make notifications. The past 2 years, it seems like folks were notified of waitlist status or denial within 3 business days of acceptance phone calls. This is just based on sleuthing, albeit skilled sleuthing, on gradcafe and college confidential… I don't think it bodes well and I am fully anticipating a generic rejection letter any time now. Hopefully sooner rather than later so that I can mentally move forward.

I think 2... possibly 3, one was a missed call without VM.

i agree. ?

I've done a lot of work on suicide prevention within jail settings. I read a lot of works by Lindsey Hayes on ongoing assessment and prevention - and risk factors for COs too. Any peer-led intervention would be amazing is you can navigate the politics.

On another note - last week of class! 4 classes down, 2 to go!

If you're willing to share @LaurelCoveand anyone else who received a call last week: Did you get an official letter/email yet and, if so, what is the window they're giving to accept their offer?
-
That is tough. One of the arguments for doctoral level SW licensure? The good thing is that many programs have spring start dates and it seems like new programs are launching every year due to high demand.

online - just launched last fall.

Tulane looks really interesting. I think my main fear is that they have live session once a month? I would procrastinate if there wasn't weekly accountability. It does seem like a balanced program with the opportunity to do a macro or micro-related final project. Do you know what their cohort size is?

I think I mentioned this earlier, I occasionally check ApplyWeb because I saw a few scenarios where folks had their application status updated without an email notification. I was curious if anyone’s status ever changed from submitted to under review or anything different. Edited to add: I think I'll suck it up and email Jeff if I haven’t heard anything by Friday morning.

Cleaning is the worst way to procrastinate - I do the same thing - easily justifiable and harder to challenge.

Do we know which programs are piloting CSWE accreditation?
-
Awesome! I can help after next week. I have grading this week. I procrastinate with grading the same way students procrastinate with their assignments... 70 papers + calculating weighted grades - oh look, a new show on HBO! ?
-
Awesome!!! I would add focus too.

SC has pre-recorded asynchronous material from the lead professors of the course. So students have an hour or so of recorded content (lecture, activities, etc) and then live zoom sessions. The recorded material is kinda like John Oliver’s Covid studio but instead of funny graphics - it’s power points ?
-
My interviewer said it “typically middle of April, could be sooner, could be later” - but calls seemed to have started last week - which is why I’m confused. ?

Two weeks? That’s surprising ? Was this SP2 admissions or specific DSW admissions?
