  1. Got a call from a private number. It ended up being a friend, and he has no idea why his number came up as private.
  2. Fuck my fucking fuck. First UW fiction acceptance is posted in the results.
  3. Congrats! That first acceptance must feel like a weight off.
  4. If I don't hear any more about that goddamn Notre Dame fiction acceptance I swear I'm going to...silently sulk in my chair.
  5. Well, if you go to Vegas, you get to actually live among the best nature has to offer. But as a man of the West, I'm incredibly biased toward my side of the Rockies.
  6. Those are two very different places, indeed. I've never been to Ames, but I've heard it's one of the best small college towns in the country. I've been to Vegas many times, and I can't say it's a place I'd want to live, but the weather is obviously going to be much better than Iowa's. Vegas is just kind of lacking in culture from everything I've seen, but I'm sure the university has a culture of its own, and you'll be with writers and students. Also, you're so close to California and Arizona and even lots of beautiful places in Nevada.
  7. Congrats! That's awesome news!
  8. Fuuuuck.
  9. I guess the optimistic angle would be that the first acceptance was like Thursday and then someone got an email yesterday, so maybe they're staggered. I'm sweating waiting for the fiction acceptances to start.
  10. Congrats! So glad to hear. New Hampshire seems like an awesome place to go to school. They're on my "maybe" list for next year.
  11. I personally wouldn't do an MFA if it wasn't fully funded. Like @feralgrad said, your chances are really good next year of getting a fully-funded offer since you got this one this year. I'm waiting on two schools, one of which doesn't fully fund everyone, and if they offer me admission without full funding I'm going to turn it down. I know it's hard to wait another year, though!
  12. Now that's just fowl.
  13. Congrats! Philadelphia would be such a cool place to go to school!
  14. Damn, congrats!
  15. Some do calls, some do emails. A lot of schools have called on weekends, so it's never safe to stop thinking about MFAs!
  16. Congrats! That must be a great feeling. Michener is my dream program and it looks like a rejection is coming there, but I'm still excited about my last two choices!
  17. Nice! Back when I was in journalism I really wanted to go to Columbia's program (like everyone else) and I still get their emails all the time. I got into journalism because it seemed a practical way to work with my loves of writing and politics, and I had some really cool experiences covering politics in Seattle and working at the state Capitol in Olympia. But eventually the reporting wasn't as fun for me and I was so much more focused on the writing, and I realized I should just chase my original passion in fiction. That said I had some really good times as a reporter and have some great memories to educate my current direction.
  18. Where'd you apply for journalism? I did my undergrad in journalism and worked in the industry for a few years before shifting gears and trying this MFA thing.
  19. I didn't see this until now! I'm definitely down for a Zoom workshop. I know some CW majors that use a Zoom in the Iowa style and it works really well for them.
  20. Someone on Draft just got a call of acceptance from Michener. This is not a drill.
  21. Same to you! Just never know. Seem some schools just keep people on waitlists until April or later, and sometimes you don't even know you're on the waitlist until you get an offer.
  22. Nothing for fiction mentioned yet!
  23. I think they probably sent out all their poetry acceptances, but I can't say for sure. I'm applying for fiction, and I contacted someone in the department. They said "the poetry committee has begun making their first offers." Sorry, I know that isn't a for-sure answer on whether all offers have gone out. But for fiction people, she said they had twice as many applicants as poetry and haven't made any decisions yet. She said fiction would probably hear by the end of next week. My pain has been delayed for now.
  24. It's an instrument that is all too often out of tune.
  25. Go to the top right, then account settings, then signature! And the p stands for pending.
